01/13/2006 ISSS Exec Minutes

Well we finally got together for the first meeting of the New Year Friday the 13th

We decided on times for our meetings for the rest of the year

Exec Meetings will be every Wednesday at 7:45pm in Howe 20

General Meetings will be every other Thursday at 6:00pm

If there are any conflicts with the times get a hold of either Allen or Ben

Our first General Meeting will be next week January 19th it will be in Hoover 1213

Possible discussion topics are talking about the many wonderful positions in ISSS and each of the projects they are planning for the year, our new SEDS membership and other plans we have for the new semester.

Need to get more people interested in ISSS and to become members and to also come to general meetings!!!

Need to grab people’s attention Lots of pretty flyers, doing chalkings in the dead of the night before the meeting, Sign boards, and going to talk to AerE 161 & 160 and possibly Astronomy classes.

Sometime this semester Paul S. Hardenson author, Professor and former President of ISSS is going to come and give a talk. That should be a great meeting to come to. And will be informative to all attending.

Ames Area Astronomers

They will be having a meeting next Saturday the 21st and Ben Brockert our VP will be giving a presentation during the meeting. The meeting will be at 7pm at McFarlen Park, if you want to come and show your support a group of us is going to attend. A carpool will probably be put together for those who want to come along.

We’re also looking into getting a group membership or a discounted student membership for all of those that are interested. This would also be a great incentive to Astro Majors. Having a membership would also let use their 20” telescope.

We missed a possible Space grant but Ben is going to keep an eye on the group and see if we could be involved in some joint project.

Lastly the many projects that we want to finish this semester:

Finish up the 2 telescopes so we can start a bigger project

Many Rocket projects and of course we want to go bigger

Launch the Big Rocket

New T-Shirts
