Megha Sharma (9:13:57 PM): take a look at it and see if everything is OK
Jenni Kissinger (9:13:58 PM): Yay!
Jenni Kissinger (9:14:17 PM): My chapter members have been anxiously awaiting that
Jenni Kissinger (9:14:19 PM): :-)
Ben Brockert (9:14:23 PM): Excellent.
(9:14:30 PM) Matthew Cruce has entered the room.
Megha Sharma (9:14:31 PM): Liz, can u please send me the phone #s of all chapter contacts you have?
Elizabeth Bozek (9:14:41 PM): yeah
Megha Sharma (9:14:42 PM): How was XPC?
Joshua Nelson (9:14:51 PM): awesome
Ben Brockert (9:14:52 PM): Spectacular.
Matthew Cruce (9:14:56 PM): amazing
Megha Sharma (9:15:05 PM): wow
Joshua Nelson (9:15:05 PM): got a great all-SEDS photo as well
Joshua Nelson (9:15:15 PM): minus UA-SEDS who were stuck in traffic with some stoners
Ben Brockert (9:15:15 PM): Well, most SEDS.
Brian Young (9:15:51 PM): and minus a&m, i coudlnt access my email and thought it was saturday
Joshua Nelson (9:16:44 PM): ah well
Joshua Nelson (9:16:54 PM): next time we will force more people into the photo ;-)
Megha Sharma (9:17:36 PM): exactly
Megha Sharma (9:17:46 PM): I have a thing for group pics
Megha Sharma (9:18:00 PM): we need to get more ppl for group photos
Joshua Nelson (9:18:09 PM): also had a request from some UA-SEDS members for more SEDS National activities at the next cup
Ben Brockert (9:18:24 PM): Yeah, when I got back I realized I took far too few photos of people.
Elizabeth Bozek (9:18:28 PM): awesome
Megha Sharma (9:18:40 PM): Liz don;t forget to send me the list
Elizabeth Bozek (9:18:48 PM): i just sent it
Megha Sharma (9:19:03 PM): also, Anousheh ansari is gonna come to next year's conf, i don't knwo if u guys got a chance to talk to her
Joshua Nelson (9:19:06 PM): I took too many photos of objects and planes
Ben Brockert (9:19:18 PM): I did. I had her wearing a button most of the event.
Elizabeth Bozek (9:19:20 PM): yeah, we took a photo with her
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:19:23 PM): we got a picture with her too
Joshua Nelson (9:19:46 PM): www.seds.org/uaseds/
Joshua Nelson (9:19:56 PM): nice photo of UA-SEDS minus me with Anouseh
Megha Sharma (9:20:28 PM): alright
Megha Sharma (9:20:42 PM): Ben will take over from here.........i have to run
Megha Sharma (9:20:57 PM): sorry about confusion tonight
Ben Brockert (9:21:11 PM): Ok, you have any chair updates?
Megha Sharma (9:21:29 PM): nope, none.......for this week
Ben Brockert (9:22:04 PM): Ok. Thanks for coming.
Megha Sharma (9:22:32 PM): bye guys
(9:22:33 PM) Megha Sharma has left the room.
Ben Brockert (9:23:16 PM): Allrighty. First off, can we extend the deadline for exec platforms? Seems prudent since most of the positions have to platforms right now.
Ben Brockert (9:23:50 PM): That "to" is actually a "no" in a clever disguise.
Ryan McLinko (9:24:19 PM): that seems reasonable
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:24:47 PM): are the platforms posted where everyone can see them yet?
Ryan McLinko (9:24:47 PM): btw, I am assuming most of you guys are planning on running
Matthew Cruce (9:24:47 PM): ok by me
Ryan McLinko (9:24:47 PM): so try to get those in
Ben Brockert (9:24:48 PM): Until when? It'd be good for chapters to have a chance to look at them before SpaceVision.
Ryan McLinko (9:24:54 PM): only those two have been posted
Ben Brockert (9:24:58 PM): They're at http://www.seds.org/platforms.php
Ryan McLinko (9:24:59 PM): and they are available for everyone to se
Ryan McLinko (9:25:04 PM): like last year
Ben Brockert (9:25:05 PM): And yeah, only two so far.
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:25:21 PM): ok
Elizabeth Bozek (9:25:23 PM): i would say don't give an extended deadline until after the previous deadline
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:25:26 PM): when was the original deadline
Elizabeth Bozek (9:25:33 PM): I was planning on writing mine this weekend
Ben Brockert (9:25:36 PM): 20th of October.
Ben Brockert (9:25:41 PM): According to the site.
Ryan McLinko (9:25:44 PM): right, I noticed that
Elizabeth Bozek (9:25:46 PM): oh - i thought it was in november
Ryan McLinko (9:25:51 PM): main page says nov 1
Ryan McLinko (9:25:56 PM): and the elections page siad oct 20
Ryan McLinko (9:26:00 PM): until about 10 min ago
Ben Brockert (9:26:03 PM): Other page says 20th twice.
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:26:04 PM): so it's nov 1
Ryan McLinko (9:26:06 PM): when I updated it to match the main page
Elizabeth Bozek (9:26:12 PM): oh ok
Ryan McLinko (9:26:27 PM): although apparently I missed one
Ben Brockert (9:26:41 PM): Ok. November 1 then, unless there are still positions open, and then we can look at it again.
John Evans (9:26:55 PM): remember, if you want to run get the dues in by Nov. 1
John Evans (9:27:07 PM): only 4 chapters so far
Ben Brockert (9:27:08 PM): Dues are good.
Ben Brockert (9:27:42 PM): Any other general talk before we get on to specific positions?
Joshua Nelson (9:28:00 PM): Food is good, scurvy is bad.
Ben Brockert (9:28:13 PM): I have a song on that very topic. Very enlightening.
Ben Brockert (9:28:24 PM): Liz, bizness?
Elizabeth Bozek (9:28:37 PM): the next CoC is tomorrow
Elizabeth Bozek (9:28:44 PM): at 7pm EST this time
Elizabeth Bozek (9:28:54 PM): hopefully more people will be able to make it
Ben Brockert (9:29:02 PM): I'll actually be there this time.
Ben Brockert (9:29:04 PM): With amendmenttacularness.
Elizabeth Bozek (9:29:21 PM): ok cool
Ben Brockert (9:29:54 PM): Matthew of the Cruce Clan, updates?
Matthew Cruce (9:30:11 PM): X-Prize Cup was amazing
Matthew Cruce (9:30:22 PM): have a contact at UCLA now
Ben Brockert (9:30:33 PM): Verily.
Matthew Cruce (9:30:52 PM): if any attendees....(Ben, Josh) have any contacts to pass along or follow up with
Matthew Cruce (9:30:53 PM): let me know
Matthew Cruce (9:31:17 PM): that pretty much encompassed my week
Matthew Cruce (9:31:18 PM): thats all
Ben Brockert (9:31:30 PM): It was busy making.
Ben Brockert (9:31:45 PM): Monsignor Evans, how goes it?
Joshua Nelson (9:31:53 PM): as usual, I cant make them due to Chem lab at same time
John Evans (9:32:05 PM): OK, get your dues in
Joshua Nelson (9:32:14 PM): I actually have a contact for ya with Prescot Embry Riddle
Joshua Nelson (9:32:24 PM): (sorry for the late replies)
John Evans (9:32:26 PM): has anyone here sent in dues that I should have received by now?
Ben Brockert (9:32:54 PM): No worries, Joshua. Good on the contact.
John Evans (9:32:59 PM): all I've got is FIT, Iowa, Caltech, and South Dakota
Ben Brockert (9:32:59 PM): John, how far are we on the yellow brick road to the enchanted land of Nonprofit?
John Evans (9:33:39 PM): I have to fill out the IRS forms
John Evans (9:34:16 PM): I had it all figured out, but that box must have stayed in Il instead of coming with me to AL
Ben Brockert (9:34:17 PM): It would be good if you were at a fairly complete spot before elections.
John Evans (9:34:59 PM): so I have to go back through everything and figure out how to do it again
Ben Brockert (9:35:19 PM): Ok. Just wanted to make sure we were still moving.
Ben Brockert (9:35:42 PM): Milady Kissinger, any news?
John Evans (9:35:49 PM): yeah, I was on hold for about 45 min last week with the IRS
Ben Brockert (9:35:57 PM): Always fun.
Jenni Kissinger (9:35:59 PM): Nope, not this week, noble sir
John Evans (9:36:01 PM): their music sucks
Jenni Kissinger (9:36:03 PM): ;-)
Ben Brockert (9:36:09 PM): Ha, and ha.
Ben Brockert (9:36:35 PM): Ryan, your honour. How goes it?
Ryan McLinko (9:36:53 PM): I just wanted to make a plea to everyone to send platforms to me
Ben Brockert (9:37:16 PM): Mine shall be of the finest mahogany, a good furlong tall.
Ryan McLinko (9:37:23 PM): which seemed especially urgent last night when I thought they were due on the 20th
Ryan McLinko (9:37:35 PM): but was relieved when I saw Nov 1 on the main page
Ben Brockert (9:37:39 PM): That's why I brought it up, for I wanted to be able to send one in.
Joshua Nelson (9:38:01 PM): lol yeah its Nov 1
Ryan McLinko (9:38:03 PM): and tell members of your chapters to apply too
Joshua Nelson (9:38:07 PM): Megha made me change that on the post to Nov 1
Joshua Nelson (9:38:14 PM): rgr
Ben Brockert (9:38:22 PM): I've certainly been trying, and pestered people at XPC in the same vein.
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:38:23 PM): rgr?
Joshua Nelson (9:38:30 PM): rgr = roger
Ben Brockert (9:38:30 PM): Roger, wilco.
Joshua Nelson (9:38:46 PM): Roger Wilco Charley
Ben Brockert (9:39:16 PM): Lord Nelson, updates?
Joshua Nelson (9:39:36 PM): yes several
Ben Brockert (9:39:51 PM): Fire when ready.
Joshua Nelson (9:40:05 PM): Allright, first off, at the X-Cup we all established contact with Charles Lauer of Rocketplane limited who is interested in offering internships to SEDS students
Joshua Nelson (9:40:23 PM): I have followed through on the contact, asking him for a few more details, then will forward the opportunities to all SEDS chapters
Joshua Nelson (9:41:06 PM): Next, several Illinois and Colorado SEDS members proposed a new National Project idea, that I think is a REALLY good idea
Joshua Nelson (9:41:20 PM): to do a model rocket racer competition at the next X-Cup
Ben Brockert (9:41:39 PM): Do we want to have the engines manufactured by Orion or XCOR or one of them, or R&D by us?
Joshua Nelson (9:42:09 PM): I have been thinking this over, and I think we should have several categories for the rocket racers
Brian Young (9:42:26 PM): i was looking at it, and for any reasonable cost, a bundle of solid motors will be better than a hybrid
Ben Brockert (9:42:38 PM): This is true.
Joshua Nelson (9:42:38 PM): one category for solid fuel engines that are bought commercially (like Estes), one for home-made rocket engines, and one for liquid engines
Brian Young (9:42:40 PM): because making it restartable is going to be well beyond a reasonable budget
Joshua Nelson (9:42:50 PM): each category having their own prize
Joshua Nelson (9:42:59 PM): the prize increasing with the complexity
Ben Brockert (9:43:26 PM): Iginiting a series of engines on demand is roughly the same difficulty, electronics-wise, as having a throttle/ignition system.
Joshua Nelson (9:44:11 PM): Yeah so these particulars of what rockets we allow, ect will need to be worked through
Joshua Nelson (9:44:37 PM): the hardest thing actually might be tracking/judging
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:44:38 PM): will there be prizes?
Elizabeth Bozek (9:44:40 PM): are you going to try to write something up in the near future?
Joshua Nelson (9:44:41 PM): yeah
Joshua Nelson (9:44:52 PM): Liz- yes, and I actually had something written up
Joshua Nelson (9:44:58 PM): but my Dell Laptop decided to die on me
Ben Brockert (9:45:14 PM): Getting it out and about and ideas back would be good, if we're working on a short time table.
Joshua Nelson (9:45:16 PM): so I am waiting for a new power supply
Joshua Nelson (9:45:47 PM): I am looking at having the preliminary studies done by the Space Vision
Ben Brockert (9:45:56 PM): At the same time, I wouldn't expect them to let us fly these at the X Prize Cup, at least not within view of the crowd.
Joshua Nelson (9:46:01 PM): and using hte National Projects meeting to hash through the various competition rules
Joshua Nelson (9:46:34 PM): Ben, we'll have to discuss that with the X-Cup, we might be able to tele-cast it from a remote location to the cup
Ben Brockert (9:46:47 PM): Perhaps.
Joshua Nelson (9:46:54 PM): they dont even know where they will be having the event next year, let alone what events will be going on
Joshua Nelson (9:47:41 PM): This will take a large chunk of money to host this competition though, so it also leads into the Dr Diamandis proposal of 10,000 dollars
Ben Brockert (9:48:17 PM): That definitely remains to be discussed.
Joshua Nelson (9:48:47 PM): should we save that issue until all reports are done? or discuss it now?
Ben Brockert (9:49:10 PM): Lets get through the reports first. Did you have anything else Projects-related?
Joshua Nelson (9:49:40 PM): no
Ben Brockert (9:50:29 PM): Ok. Dame Emily Hardegree Ullman, updates?
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:51:07 PM): well i have drafted a letter to send to prospective publication partners, i am just waiting on feedback before i send it
Ben Brockert (9:51:34 PM): Ok. Is it available for purveyance?
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:52:12 PM): sure, i can send it to the exec listserve
Ben Brockert (9:52:32 PM): Excellent. In a tangentially related item, do we have a mailing address?
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:52:49 PM): not that i know of
Joshua Nelson (9:53:03 PM): mailing address?
Joshua Nelson (9:53:05 PM): what do you mean?
Joshua Nelson (9:53:11 PM): as in a SEDS-National mailing address?
Ben Brockert (9:53:19 PM): An address at which mail can be sent, yes.
Joshua Nelson (9:53:27 PM): there are several
Joshua Nelson (9:53:39 PM): the MIT one, Illinois one, and UA one
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:53:42 PM): it is sent
Joshua Nelson (9:53:52 PM): all of which recieve some quantity of physical mail related to National
Ben Brockert (9:54:29 PM): And who is taking care of them and forwarding items?
Joshua Nelson (9:54:48 PM): whoever checks the mail at respective locations
John Evans (9:54:54 PM): Matt is holding the banking stuff for me right now
Joshua Nelson (9:55:05 PM): MIT I would assume its Darrell
Joshua Nelson (9:55:10 PM): UA it is me
Joshua Nelson (9:55:23 PM): though nothing of real importance has come through in a year or more
Ryan McLinko (9:55:35 PM): if you're expecting to send stuff to the mit one, then let us know
Ryan McLinko (9:55:41 PM): since we check it very rarely
Joshua Nelson (9:56:14 PM): if you want to use the UA address for national mail, I check the box on a daily basis
Ben Brockert (9:56:22 PM): Ok. I was thinking that for things like mailed fundraising letters, SEDS letterhead would be required, and would then need a mailing address. But for that purpose, using the address of the mailer would probably be sufficient.
Ben Brockert (9:57:28 PM): Anything else, Emily?
Emily Hardegree Ullman (9:57:34 PM): nope
Ben Brockert (9:58:03 PM): Good Sir Young, my apologies for going in alphabetical order by last name again. I'll go the other way next time. If you can forgive me, do you have any updates?
Brian Young (9:58:39 PM): No, most of what ive been working on this week is the project josh mentioned, as a few of you rpobably know
Ben Brockert (9:59:23 PM): Did anyone else miss their flights, or do I get a special idiot star for being the only one?
Joshua Nelson (9:59:53 PM): lol
Joshua Nelson (9:59:57 PM): I think that is just for you Ben
Ben Brockert (10:00:07 PM): Again, woot.
Joshua Nelson (10:00:10 PM): though did anyone else have to deal with a dead battery at 3 am?
Ben Brockert (10:00:35 PM): I turned off my phone at 3:50AM, if that counts.
Emily Hardegree Ullman (10:00:37 PM): i don't deal with things at 3am, i sleep at 3am
Matthew Cruce (10:00:58 PM): we made it
Matthew Cruce (10:01:03 PM): but ours was one pm
Ben Brockert (10:02:20 PM): You were luckier. Anyway, there's the business of the money I think it would be best discussed when we have as much of exec as possible.
Ben Brockert (10:02:21 PM): Plus I think people need to spend some time thinking of what we'd do with $10k; many of us have been preoccupied with the Cup.
Joshua Nelson (10:02:35 PM): Put it off to next week then?
Joshua Nelson (10:03:02 PM): Allright, could everyone think though about what possible uses there are for the money that we should argue for?
Ben Brockert (10:03:02 PM): I'll make sure Megha will be here... and who else are we missing?
Elizabeth Bozek (10:03:07 PM): ok i gotta run
Ben Brockert (10:03:15 PM): Ok, thanks for coming.
Elizabeth Bozek (10:03:18 PM): see you at the CoC meeting if you are attending
Ben Brockert (10:03:29 PM): Aye.
(10:03:30 PM) Elizabeth Bozek has left the room.
Ben Brockert (10:04:37 PM): Ok then, any other business?
Ben Brockert (10:06:03 PM): Don't all say something at once. Does anyone have the log in a useful format?
Ben Brockert (10:07:30 PM): Bueller?
Matthew Cruce (10:08:13 PM): littering and
Brian Young (10:08:49 PM): i got nothing...
Ben Brockert (10:09:07 PM): "littering and"?
Matthew Cruce (10:09:19 PM): super stoopers
Ben Brockert (10:09:45 PM): My reference can beat up your reference.
Emily Hardegree Ullman (10:10:05 PM): bye
(10:10:07 PM) Emily Hardegree Ullman has left the room.
Ben Brockert (10:12:01 PM): Seriously, is anyone logging other than me? Because the logfiles this app makes are proprietary, i.e. fairly useless. And our secretary is not in attendance.
Brian Young (10:12:03 PM): oh yeah, i had a thought, does anyone know if anyone has extra room in their groups for conference, because im not sure i can afford to pay $100 a night for a room
Brian Young (10:12:19 PM): i can cut and paste... i dont think i have gaim set up to log at this point though
Jenni Kissinger (10:12:25 PM): I can save the chat but I don't know if it will be in a 'useful format'
Ben Brockert (10:12:29 PM): We may.
Joshua Nelson (10:12:40 PM): I dont know if I can afford to pay anything for room
Joshua Nelson (10:12:50 PM): looking like I will just have enough for plane flight and registration
Joshua Nelson (10:12:54 PM): spent too much on X-Cup
Ben Brockert (10:13:01 PM): Well, save it and see what comes up. Anything is better than me having to try to regexp through a nasty format.
Jenni Kissinger (10:13:14 PM): Okay
Ben Brockert (10:14:39 PM): I'll throw something together for room sharing. I'm sure the hosting chapter would like to see as many people as possible come.
Ben Brockert (10:15:57 PM): That's the show this evening, don't forget to tip the waitstaff. Everybody try making a log and mail it to exec, and one of them ought to wor.
Ben Brockert (10:15:58 PM): k
Brian Young (10:16:11 PM): yeah, i was looking at prices and all the cheap hotels are too far away to walk
Jenni Kissinger (10:16:11 PM): Okay
Ben Brockert (10:17:43 PM): See you all next week. It was good to see many of you over the weekend. Good luck, and good night.
Brian Young (10:17:48 PM): goodnight
(10:17:51 PM) Brian Young has left the room.
Jenni Kissinger (10:18:03 PM): Good night
