I. Update from Director of Publicity, Emily Hardigree-Ullman, on the December SuperNOVA newsletter
- Intent to arrange NOVA over the next two days
- Will send to SEDSexec to critique on Friday
- It will be put online Monday
- Megha suggests that pictures from the conference to include in the newsletter can be found at http://gallery.seds.org/v/SEDS/
II. Update from Director of Special Projects, Joshua Nelson.
- Zero-G Flights Project
- Josh meets with Kirk on Friday to transfer information about the Zero-G flights
- Official email goes out this weekend about flights, how chapters can register, etc.
- Zero G has interest from chapters but we’ll only be sure after the email goes out
- Zero G is the short term project
- Emily brings up the fact that 1000 is a lot of money for a chapter to raise
- Kirk is willing to hook up chapters with potential funders
- Todd expresses concerns about the time-frame
- Final applications due in February, Launch in April out of Chicago
- Two months for proposal and funding, and two months to build
- This is not much time to actually build the project
- We can always push back flights
- Josh is calling the Zero-G people to see if they have any recommended resources
- Could do a separate flight in summer or fall, if its popular
- They need to have a certain number of people to schedule the flights, and if we have even more than that, we can schedule more flights in the same day.
- Centennial Challenges
- Possible Long term project
- Josh will talk to them and see if a representative can help interested chapters
III. New Director of External Affairs, Jennifer Kissinger, introduces herself
- I'm Jenni, the new Director of External Affairs. I'm really excited to get started, so I'll be meeting up with Mark over this break so that I can learn where SEDS stands in terms of relations with outside organizations. Once I speak with Mark, I'm going to create some goals for where we can go in the future. And then work toward them!
IV. Vice Chair, Todd Romberger, updates on upcoming events
- AIAA/AAS Space FLight Mechanics meeting is the first event Todd will push people to be at
- More of a technical conference, but still of interest to some of the aerospace engineers
- Funding
- Volunteer to get into the conference free
- Cut down on travel costs by sending locals
- Tampa, January 22-26
- ISDC is during finals this year – not good timing, probably won’t be able to send anyone
- After ISDC, X-Prize Cup is probably the best event to send people to.
- Focus on getting a lot of people and a lot of funding for a few important events.
- Space Generation Conference is in Spain this year
- Return to the Moon is in July and Space Frontier Foundation Symposium is in April
V. Secretary
- Asks for notes from the SpaceVision conference, hopes to set up a page on the wiki
- Let me know about minutes/transcripts problems
- Here to facilitate and be the organization master
VI. Participate in the Forums, especially on the Alumni Advisory Board that will be discussed at the next meeting.
