Megha: emily...did u get into the seds chat room?

Stephanie: well, we still have 10 minutes technically. i'm sure we'll gather a few more
Megha: do u see me anywhere in the seds chat room
Emily: no
Megha: i just updated ur profile to exec board member..try now
Megha: nahhh I am just trying to see if seds chat server is working
Megha: steph...u shud try too
Stephanie: alright, whats the link?
Megha: http://www.seds.org/chat/
Emily: i cant connect to it
Megha: ok
Megha: so its not working
Stephanie: uh, whats my "nickname"
Megha: never mind.....wanted to check...but looks like i will have to bug Chris
Stephanie: on the seds chat thingy
Megha: just put any
Todd: hey guys
Stephanie: oh, umm...yeah i just have one of those boxes and "x"s like when a picture or animation refuses to load
Megha: yea..its not working
Megha: never mind
Megha: we'll switch to either seds chat room or space alumni next week
Emily: k
Megha: ok...dont think anyone else is comin
Megha: so we'll start and try to keep it short
Megha: updates.....emily do u want to start, since NOVA is now the priority
Emily: k
Emily: everythings coming along nicely
Emily: im gonna arrange nova over the next two days
Emily: do you guys want to critique it before it goes online?
Todd: sure that would be cool
Emily: k
Megha: yea send it to SEDSExec on or after Friday
Megha: is that cool?
Emily: do you want it to go to seds exec or individual emails, so the masses dont get it early
Megha: Ok I have to check who all are on the SEDSExec list
Megha: will let u know by tom
Emily: k
Emily: good
Emily: anything y'all still have to send me please do that soon
Megha: sure, will do so
Emily: k
Emily: so i'll send it to yall probably friday, and on monday it will be sent to chris or someone to put online
Emily: otherwise thats it
Megha: did u get the pics u want to put for the conf article?
Emily: no
Emily: if anyone has any i will put them in tho
Megha: Ok....they're on http://gallery.seds.org/v/SEDS/
Emily: whoa, nice
Emily: i will choose some to put in
Megha: cool
Megha: any body have anything to add?
Todd: i've got a dumb question...what does NOVA stand for
Emily: i dont think anything
Josh: I dont think it is an acronym
Josh: just the name of the paper
Todd: oh, ok gotcha
Emily: nova is an astronomical term
Megha: yea, I think so too
Todd: yeah i know, thought it was an acronym though with the all caps
Josh: lol
Josh: true that, everything else in aerospace is an acronym
Emily: yes
Todd: hehe yea
Emily: we could have a contest to come up with the best acronym
Megha: josh...u want to go ahead with any updates u have for us?
Josh: Allright, un momento
Todd: has left the room.
Josh: *swears* damn there is a size limit to posts
Josh: Ok, Kirk and I are meeting Friday so he can transfer to me all the knowledge and info about the zero g flights
Josh: there will be an official e-mail going out this weekend about the flights, how chapters can register, etc..
Josh: I will be calling up the Centenial challenges people after the holiday
Josh: to try to arrange for a meeting between a rep from them and people interested in the national projects
Josh: other than that, nothing huge until I can get in contact with several people after the holiday
Josh: back to you Megha
Todd: sorry
Josh: and welcome back Todd
Todd: thanks:-)
Todd: can someone fill me in on what i missed on an IM
Josh: done
Megha: Josh...is the zero gravity project the popular one amongst chapters...what was ur conclusion from the project workshop at the conf
Josh: Zero G has interest from chapters, but we will only know for SURE after I send out the e-mail this weekend
Josh: At the projects meeting we set up a short term, and long term project
Josh: short term being hte Zero G project
Emily: i bet that would be popular, but even 1000 dollars is alot to fundraise
Todd: i think the timeefram will be the real challenge
Josh: Not as bad as it may seem... And Kirk says he is willing to help hook chapters up with potential funders
Megha: now this is scheduled for Feb, rite?
Josh: February final applications are due
Josh: launch in April
Josh: that gives chapters 2 months to come up with a proposal and find funding
Josh: then 2 months and then some to build their project and launch it
Emily: whats in april
Josh: forget the launch it part to that sentance... sorry am still in balloon sat mode
Josh: the Zero G flight
Josh: out of Chicago
Josh: We can also try to arrange a seperate SEDS flight later on in the year, either summer or fall
Emily: hows about have flights for peeps at the next conference
Josh: that is always a possibility, but we will first need to find out what chapter gets the conference
Emily: true
Megha: they need to have a certain # of ppl to shedule excusively for SEDS, rite?
Josh: then coordinate it through them
Josh: Megha- yes. And if we get over a certain number of people, then we can schedule additional flights in the same day
Josh: Kirk will be giving me the exact numbers friday
Josh: Todd- Is your concern about the time more in the area of funding, or the projects themselveS?
Todd: as a side note, i know kirk has been arranging alot of zero g stuff but I can be a contact as well cause i interned with them and am currently a coach
Megha: ok Josh..set up the framework...by next week, we should have responses from chapters..some sort of respons
toddimus8 has left the room.
Josh: yup
Todd: my concern is for having enough time to actually build the project
Todd: cause i know the nasa temas spend like a year or more developing an experiment
Todd: but like you said, we can always try to arrange later dates if that turns out to be a problem
Josh: Yeah
Megha: yup
Ryan: there are probably experiments waiting to be done in zero-g that can be continued by seds chapters
Josh: I am not expecting any mind blowing projects for thsi first flight anyway
Josh: yeah
Todd: true
Josh: I am going to call up the Zero G people after the holiday and ask them if they ahve any recommended resources
Megha: the nasa site is pretty good
Megha: any other questions for Josh?
Josh: I will make sure to add a list of possible resources to my e-mail. If you guys have any good links with possible projects in zero g, be sure to forward em to me so I can add them to the e-mail for the chapters
Megha: ok..cool
Megha: I'll look .
Megha: Ok, Jennifer, do u want to go next?
Jennifer: Sure
Jennifer: Well, hi, if you don't know me (and I don't know most of you so it's a safe bet) I'm Jenni, the new Director of External Affairs. I'm really excited to get started, so I'll be meeting up with Mark over this break so that I can learn where SEDS stands in terms of relations with outside organizations.
Jennifer: Once I speak with Mark, I'm going to create some goals for where we can go in the future. And then work toward them!
Jennifer: So I'll have more for you later.
Mark: :-)
Megha: thanks Jenni!
Megha: Todd, are u going next?
Todd: sure...
Megha:(this is just a random order-prioritized)
Todd: not alot new really, but the AIAA/AAS Space FLight Mechanics meeting is the first event I am going to be pushing to get some people at
Emily: is there funding to help send people to things?
Todd: mark had a point though about it, that this is more of a technical conference and not your typical space advocacy thing that we SDS people are used to
Todd: i have no idea about funding, i was hoping we could volunteer and as for travel, it may be more of a reginol thing cause i would want to save the travel fund for things like the conference
Josh: That is the DC meeting right?
Todd: no this one is in tampa, jan 22-26
Megha: wats the website?
Emily: sounds good, cuz i'd like to go to stuff around here, but i dont want to travel far away
Ryan: what do they typically provide for us volunteering
Megha: just manning diff booths
Todd: they provide us with not having to pay
Stephanie: i mean volunteering you usually just get conference fee and some food most of the time
Stephanie: you still have to deal with transportation
Todd: let me see if i can find the website...
Todd: yeah thats why i was thinking more regional
Megha: is it once a year thing?
Mark: It's not really the kind of conference that SEDS would get much out of. Mostly researchers giving technical presentations on their latest developments.
Todd: they have a bunch of them annually about different topics
Megha: ohhhh..Ok, i know which one ur talking about
Todd: yeah thats what i wanted to talk about, do you think it would be good to go given it is very technical?
Josh: I think it would definetly be something worth getting chapters from the region to, but might be pushing it to convince longer distance chapters
Megha: yea...I dont think it will be worth doing fund-raising for....my nerdiest aero professors attend it, not many students
Emily: it might appeal to scientist types
Emily: yeah, regional stuff is great
Megha: there's a whole lot of other conf. where we can really channelise our fund-raising
Josh: ah damn... ISDC is in Los Angeles this year.... so tempting but right in the middle of finals
Mark: It'd be best to select one or two conferences and really focus on getting all the fundraising and participation for them.
Stephanie: I know. i'm disappointed at the whole ISDC timing
Todd: what i was typing...
Mark: At least that's what I've found in my experience with planning this stuff.
Todd: personally i think it would be good, most of us are engineers, and we shouldnt shy away from technical stuff, it wouldnt hurt SEDS to offer learning about the tech side too
Josh: definetly wouldnt hurt
Todd: yeah i agree that as for a national level and funding, we should not spread too thin with conferences like this
Emily: what would you say are the most important conferences
Ryan: what kinds of things does national fundijng typically go to
Todd: but if we can get regional people to attend these types of things, volunteer, and chip in or get their own funding, it wouldnt be bad
Megha: Mark u want to answer that?
Mark: ISDC, if it weren't right in the middle of finals.
Emily: ISDC?
Mark: Otherwise I'd say X-Prize Cup would be the most fun and useful.
Todd: X-cup
Todd: yea
Mark: Sorry, National Space Society's International Space Development Conference.
Emily: ah
Megha: SGC
Megha: we dont fund for SGC but definitely worth thinking about
Mark: SGC is good but steep in terms of cost. Next year's is in Valencia, Spain.
Josh: *slow whistle*
Mark: There's nothing good in Spring. AAS has their Goddard symposium in March but that's pretty boring (IMHO).
Josh: Return to the Moon?
Mark: Usually in July.
Todd: Space Foundation Symposium in April
Mark: Ah that's right, I always forget it.
Megha: so as of now...lets not focus much on AIAA/AAS conf. planning, Todd send out an email, eitherway, let ppl know
Ryan: where is space foundation
Todd: yeah it wont be a huge deal, im just going to see if there is some interest
Megha: yep
Josh: FAA Commercial Space Transportation Conference on February 9th and 10th,
Mark: Space Foundation thing is in Colorado.
Megha: anything else from ur side, Todd?
Todd: nope, thats all
Megha: any questions?
Megha: Steph do u have anything to add?
Stephanie: yes, a bit
Stephanie: If you have any notes from any of the conference events, i'm going to try to make a page for those on the wiki if anyone's interested in sending them
Stephanie: Also, If anyone has issues with the way minutes/transcripts are going up, let me know
Stephanie: And I'm basically here to facilitate. So if you guys need extra organizing/hands/brains, thats what i'm here for
Stephanie: thats it, i think. I have some other things i'll bring to the next meeting
Megha: Ok, thanks Steph....and great job with the mins last week!
Megha: Ryan and Lindsay are still being set up...so they have no updates, rite?
Ryan: right
Lindsay: yes ma'am
Megha: OK..
Megha: lindsay u need to get together with Jess and Jaime to get things started
Lindsay: ok
Megha: I will send u another email with their contacts
Megha: did u get Jess's last email on outreach stuff?
Lindsay: i don't recall getting any emails from jess
Megha: OK
Megha: will forward it to u
Megha: and we can pick up from there
Lindsay: alright, thanks
Megha: the baord of advisors convo. is going on at http://forums.seds.org/showthread.php?p=3956#post3956

Megha: yea, also for next week, pl. review the cons. thoroughly, we start the discusion at the next meeting
Megha: especially, since we have free time coz of the break
Megha: ??
Stephanie: sure thing
Megha: are we all set
Stephanie: indeed
Todd: yep
