12/05/2005 ISSS Exec Minutes
From SEDSWiki
Written by Tabrina Sienkiewicz, ISSS Secretary.
The exec had a meeting today at 6:00 in the Howe basement, here is what we discussed:
- Tomorrow's Meeting:
The meeting is set for 204 Marston at 6:00. Allen is going to take care of the Pokey Sticks and Dominoes, but we have to bring our own drinks. We're going to watch Galexy Quest, and hold elections for the new exec. If there are a lot of new people there the plan is to go over some of our future projects, but other than that there won't be any new buisness.
- Improving For Next Semester:
We discussed some possible improvements for next semester, the main stuff we thought of was to be more prepared for next semester's first meeting. The first meeting this semester was a bit of a surprise with so many people, so we're going to at least have an exec meeting before we get so many new people. We also would like to involve more people in trips if possible and plan farther ahead so more people know about and can go to them.
- Getting More Members:
We came up with some ideas for getting some more members: We could put out posters with some information about the club on one half and our meeting dates and times, as well as the trips and events we are planning on the other. We also think having the telescope out in front of the library some day with the solar film will bring in a lot of new members. Allen made a facebook group for ISSS tonight (so everybody should join it!); the group would be a good way to announce events and meetings and to make ourselves known.
- Projects:
We talked about some possible projects for the future: The liquid-fueled rocket can be done very soon, we also talked about building a rockoon of our own, because a lot of the SEDS groups are doing rockets. We could get some information from this semester's 462 project and go from there. In order to make it a level two or three we'd either have to have an overseer or make it expiramental.
- Website:
We need to make some major changes on the ISSS website. Whoever wants to step up to the plate can feel free to do it!
- Fundraising:
Money is a big factor in any projects we want to do, so we talked about either getting some grants for big projects and/or doing some fundraising. One idea was to clean Hilton after a basketball game. We're pretty sure the cleaning crew gets into the game free, so that would be incentive for new members as well.
- Etc...:
Yuri's Night is something we heard at the SEDS conference, I don't know the specifics, but it's basically a set date (April 12) that people world wide celebrate Yuri Gagarin's first flight into space (as well as space exploration in general). We don't know exactly what we're doing for the VEISHEA celebration, but if we're not in the parade, then all we have to do is sign up for a space and decide what we want to do. We also decided that we want to have t-shirts for next semester.
- Constitution:
The constitution still needs to be rewritten. In the next one we should assign specific duties to different positions and allow either the exec or the whole group to vote out exec members if they're not satisfactory.
That's all we talked about today, don't forget to bring your own drinks to tomorrow's meeting (and friends!!).
