Megha Sharma (9:15:36 PM): alrite..moving on...Todd
Todd Romberger (9:15:41 PM): ok I'll go ahead with a few quick updates:
Todd Romberger (9:16:46 PM): i'm going to be crew at the Mars Desert Research Station next week, and thought it would be cool to post a daily log and pictures on seds.org so people can kep up with the activities
Todd Romberger (9:17:14 PM): they do a similar thing on the mars society website, but i think it would be nice to have sommething exclusively for seds
Todd Romberger (9:17:37 PM): cause it would reach a different audience
Todd Romberger (9:18:01 PM): so im working with ryan to set that up
Megha Sharma (9:18:35 PM): thats cool...is it going to be just for MDRS?
Todd Romberger (9:19:03 PM): other than that, I have a list of people going to goddard who i (still) need to email about available funding, etc
Todd Romberger (9:19:30 PM): yeah i think i will just do it though a regular news post
Megha Sharma (9:19:40 PM): ok
Todd Romberger (9:19:57 PM): but i wanted to get some input from the exec board about this, do you think it would be worthwile to do?
Josh Nelson (9:20:11 PM): long as Ryan doesnt mind
Josh Nelson (9:20:18 PM) : I would suggest advertising it though
Josh Nelson (9:20:26 PM): not too sure how many people check the page daily outside of exec board
Megha Sharma (9:20:27 PM): now is it a good idea to do something like this for the conf. planning, I mean not on the main page news post..but somewhere else may be
Todd Romberger (9:21:10 PM) : not trying to be like "hey look at me" but i though it would be a cool thing for people to see whats out there and what SEDS can help you do
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:21:31 PM): good idea
Josh Nelson (9:21:34 PM): yup
Liz Bozek (9:21:36 PM): i agree...we can do it for all of the conference seds members attend
Todd Romberger (9:21:50 PM): yeah
Megha Sharma (9:23:02 PM): OK...is there a page for SV 06 on the seds.org yet?
Todd Romberger (9:23:10 PM): so thats it for me, but i do need some info from Jen about funding for goddard so i can notify people, unless you have notified them already?
Megha Sharma (9:23:46 PM): nope..I havent
Todd Romberger (9:24:39 PM) : does anyone know how much funding the travel fund received?
Megha Sharma (9:24:43 PM): ok, can u get in touch with Jen and take care of that TOdd?
Todd Romberger (9:25:41 PM): yeah will do, i have been trying
Brian Young has joined the room.
Megha Sharma (9:27:03 PM): no qustions....Liz u wanna go next

Megha Sharma (9:29:57 PM): Liz had to leave early today
Matt Cruce (9:30:24 PM): well since i inadvertently missed last week...
Matt Cruce (9:31:17 PM): i announced at the last CoC meeting there will be a New Chapter of the Year Award at SV06 and also dropped the bait about each school helping with expansion
Megha Sharma (9:32:25 PM): cool
Lindsay Newton has joined the room.
Megha Sharma (9:33:35 PM): was there a good response to ur bait?
Matt Cruce (9:33:35 PM): i'm haven't come up with what the prize will be for the winner yet but hopefully we'll get some good ideas before November (have some time to think on this) and have a good idea of what the criteria will be for the winner
Matt Cruce (9:33:57 PM): not much response to the bait...
Megha Sharma (9:35:06 PM): ok...well go there tom and re-emphasise that u have a bait n that chapters should fall for it
Megha Sharma (9:35:10 PM): lol
Megha Sharma (9:35:17 PM): i mena if u can make it tom
Megha Sharma (9:35:22 PM): mean*
Matt Cruce (9:35:39 PM): i'm thinking that the exec board will vote on who the new chapter of the year will be
Matt Cruce (9:35:57 PM): i'll provide everyone with the info necessary for the decision
Matt Cruce (9:36:08 PM): so does that sound like a good idea?
Megha Sharma (9:36:25 PM) : not bad
Megha Sharma (9:37:19 PM): any suggestions?
Megha Sharma (9:37:49 PM): questions?
Josh Nelson (9:37:51 PM): none here.
Matt Cruce (9:39:14 PM) : i'll keep bringin up ideas as they come
Matt Cruce (9:39:19 PM): nothing is set in stone right now
Matt Cruce (9:39:23 PM): thats all from me
Megha Sharma (9:39:28 PM): On a quick not, want to congratulate Emily once again for the Spring edition of NOVA

Lindsay Newton (9:41:48 PM): i don't
Brian Young (9:42:44 PM): well, the one thing is we decided not to have a meeting this sunday since we'll both be unavailable due to travelling, and id imagine others will be as well
Megha Sharma (9:43:37 PM): ok.....are u postponing it for another Day or something?
Brian Young (9:44:16 PM): its spring break, im going to be out of touch for the week... im not sure what liz's plans are, but ill imagine theyll be the same

Megha Sharma (9:45:45 PM): ok
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:46:09 PM): 11
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:46:12 PM): oops
Megha Sharma (9:46:46 PM): Liz, how many ppl attended last the previous meeting?
Lindsay Newton (9:47:04 PM): 5
Megha Sharma (9:47:14 PM): do u have like a sorta committe of interested ppl already or was it just random?
Lindsay Newton (9:47:54 PM): it was mainly random... i sent out an email, and invited whoever responded
Megha Sharma (9:48:01 PM): ok
Lindsay Newton (9:48:04 PM): we're trying to get more interest for the next one
Megha Sharma (9:48:25 PM): so basically its just Brian and you who are working, rite?
Lindsay Newton (9:48:42 PM): basically
Megha Sharma (9:48:51 PM): k
Lindsay Newton (9:48:52 PM): but we got a lot of good ideas from everyone that was at the last meeting
Megha Sharma (9:48:53 PM): good
Megha Sharma (9:49:20 PM): any questions?
Megha Sharma (9:50:00 PM) : Josh...amy updates?
Megha Sharma (9:50:05 PM): any*\
Josh Nelson (9:50:10 PM): Had a project finance meeting on Thursday, which went very well. All chapters participating showed with the exception of Caltech,
Josh Nelson (9:50:13 PM): very good meeting
Josh Nelson (9:50:29 PM) : discussed the current situation and how to best arrange things/deal with it
Josh Nelson (9:51:03 PM): chapters are more in favor of all majorly involved players working as reps of SEDS National to do fundraisng instead of raising hte bar for each chapter
Megha Sharma (9:51:29 PM): hmmm
Megha Sharma (9:51:45 PM): who's the majorly involved players?
Josh Nelson (9:51:57 PM) : SEDS UW, Todd, Dan, etc
Josh Nelson (9:52:27 PM): I asked all chapters present to send me a list of people they think would be good to ask for money
Josh Nelson (9:52:39 PM): SEDS UW sent me a list of approx 200 last I checked,
Josh Nelson (9:52:45 PM): no others recieved
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:53:00 PM): is anyone checking undergrad funding from universities
Josh Nelson (9:53:05 PM): One question I have for you all: which in your experiance works better: physical letters of requests or e-mails?
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:53:17 PM): letters
Kirk Kittell (9:53:32 PM): phone calls
Kirk Kittell (9:53:37 PM): but letters > emails
Lindsay Newton (9:53:51 PM): i agree with kirk... phone calls have always worked best for us
Josh Nelson (9:54:49 PM): allright. I will be starting to send out e-mails, calls, and letters on Friday/saturday after my last midterm
Josh Nelson (9:54:59 PM): thats bout all I have
Megha Sharma (9:55:12 PM) : ok cool
Megha Sharma (9:55:16 PM): any questions?
Megha Sharma (9:55:42 PM): thanks Josh!
Kirk Kittell (9:56:02 PM): AAS Symposium next week -- I'm going to talk to their exec board and get a student-professional mentoring program rolling; also will interview AAS prez Mark Craig plus Griffin and John Marburger for the newsletter
Kirk Kittell (9:56:34 PM): if there aren't any objections, I'd like to include a membership form for the SEDS AAS membership rate
Kirk Kittell (9:56:41 PM): in the next NOVA
Kirk Kittell (9:56:47 PM) : *done*
Josh Nelson (9:56:50 PM): whats the rate for joint?
Kirk Kittell (9:57:04 PM): .5 * the normal student rate = $17.50
Josh Nelson (9:57:09 PM) : nice
Megha Sharma (9:57:42 PM): it sounds like a good idea..of including the form
Todd Romberger (9:57:58 PM): yeah def
Megha Sharma (9:58:10 PM) : Emily?
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:58:22 PM): i think thats good
Kirk Kittell (9:58:25 PM): they really like us, and I'm going to get them to hook us up more... thought that would be a fair trade
Megha Sharma (9:58:56 PM) : Ok, thats cool....so Emily u've found a definite one page for ur newsletter
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (9:59:01 PM): i don't know how much it overlaps with seds but im a member of AGU and they're only 7 buck for students
Megha Sharma (10:00:11 PM): whats AGU?
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:00:12 PM): maybe we could come up with a list of professional organizations that students can be members of
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:00:19 PM): american geophysical union
Megha Sharma (10:00:27 PM): ok.......
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:00:36 PM): they're like planetary sciences, they have a space science section
Josh Nelson (10:00:58 PM): Yeah and we used to talk about getting SEDS members/chapters a discounted rate or free subscription to several space magazines... did anyone ever pursue that?
Megha Sharma (10:01:09 PM): no idea
Kirk Kittell (10:01:29 PM): that's 2.5 years old... so I'm guessing no
Megha Sharma (10:01:54 PM): ok
Megha Sharma (10:02:00 PM): so wats the question?
Megha Sharma (10:02:16 PM): Emily?
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:02:28 PM): what do you mean
Megha Sharma (10:03:00 PM): u started talking about AGU, rite?..I am sorry I am missing something
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:03:27 PM) : o, well its just another one of those professional groups that students can be in
Megha Sharma (10:03:36 PM): ohhh
Megha Sharma (10:03:38 PM): OK
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:03:45 PM): its good for students to get involved with those
Kirk Kittell (10:03:47 PM): might want to keep AAS a little special tho, since we have an MOU w/ them
Megha Sharma (10:03:48 PM) : sorrym thanks
Megha Sharma (10:03:53 PM): yea
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:03:57 PM): right
Emily Hardigree-Ullman (10:04:09 PM): we can just focus on AAS next time
Megha Sharma (10:04:13 PM): yep
Megha Sharma (10:04:19 PM): exactly
Megha Sharma (10:04:26 PM): any other questions
Josh Nelson (10:04:38 PM): Still might not be a bad idea to get discounted memberships with more than one organization
Josh Nelson (10:04:53 PM) : heck, when you register for SPS, you are elligible for like 20 different groups
Lindsay Newton (10:05:17 PM): sps?
Josh Nelson (10:05:23 PM): Society of Physics Students
Megha Sharma (10:05:48 PM): yea....but lets focus on AAS for next newsletter, we can talk about other organizations subsequently.....
Megha Sharma (10:05:59 PM): if somebody wants to make a list
Kirk Kittell (10:06:24 PM): this would be very well suited for the forums/wiki
Brian Young (10:06:27 PM): that might be something good to put on the wiki
Brian Young (10:06:32 PM): exactly
Megha Sharma (10:06:34 PM): yes, exactly
Megha Sharma (10:07:40 PM): Ok any more ideas for good, profitable organizations, ventures with which make SEDS rich, definiteky need to be brought up to the forums
Megha Sharma (10:08:14 PM): and soon SEDS will be the richest..with all its real estate and shares and bonds
Megha Sharma (10:08:30 PM): any other questions
Megha Sharma (10:09:29 PM): so the meeting's officially over.....
Megha Sharma (10:09:41 PM): in other news Steph will be taking oath this week
