2006 SEDS International Conference

SEDS-Earth is organizing a one-day conference to be held the day prior to the Space Generation Congress in Valencia, Spain.

Basic tasks

  1. 7 May: Write letter to ProEspacio for sponsorship. (Adolfo)
  2. 7 May: Create a simple information packet for sponsors (Kirk/Adolfo)
  3. 7 May: Create a timeline for other tasks (Kirk/Adolfo)
  4. 7 May: Web page up—real web page will go here (nothing there yet) (Kirk)
  5. 7 May: Registration page up (but needs to be modified for use w/ SEDS international event)— registration page

Planning Timeline

  • 10 September: Deadline to register
  • 1 October: Go.

1 October 2006 Program

Two parts of program:

  1. Morning: Learn how to develop a project. Tentatively this will be a student payload for the Chandrayaan-1 lunar mission. For those that don't want to participate on this project specifically, the principles learned will still be relevant.
  2. Afternoon: Learn how to be a leader in SEDS, i.e. develop the SEDS network.

10:00 - 10:30.- Opening session + Introduction + Guest speaker
10:30 - 11:00.- Networking event
11:00 - 11:45.- World space seminar
11:45 - 12:00.- Coffee break
12:00 - 13:00.- Creating an space project from scratch
13:00 - 15:00.- Lunch time (with guest speakers)
15:00 - 16:00.- SEDS Stuff
16:00 - 17:00.- Sponsors session
17:00 - 17:30.- Close session
From 17:30.- Meetings (chapters, projects development, ...)

Projected expenses

First priority

  1. Name tags ($1/person × 40 people = $40)
  2. Program ($5/person × 40 people = $200)
  3. Lunch ($15/person × 40 people = $600)
  4. Travel for speakers
    • Chris Lewicki, LAX to VLC, ($950)
    • Two representatives of SSETI
    • Jim Volp
  5. Coffee/snacks for morning ($3/person × 40 people = $120)

First priority total: $1910

Extra

  1. Travel scholarships for participants
  2. Items for participants (e.g. t-shirt, bookbag)
  3. Items for staff (e.g. polo shirt, lunch)
  4. Banners
  5. Dinner
