lizeeb3 (8:04:17 PM): So how is everyone doing tonight?

Jupitune1 (8:04:34 PM): Good. Busy.

AdAstra56 (8:04:39 PM): eh, long day

AdAstra56 (8:04:44 PM): you?

Invitation result for buddy bennumber42 : Invite or request timed out

lizeeb3 (8:05:01 PM): same, i just came from an Illinois Seds meeting

bennumber42 (8:05:10 PM) has been invited.

bennumber42 (8:05:18 PM) has entered the room.

lizeeb3 (8:05:30 PM): let's wait 3 more minutes to see if anyone else shows up

bennumber42 (8:05:41 PM): Hi everybody.

bennumber42 (8:05:51 PM): How was attendance at the last one?

lizeeb3 (8:06:01 PM): in the meantime we can introduce ourselves in case everyone doesn't know everyone

Jupitune1 (8:06:51 PM): Darren Johnson. South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Actually this is my first CoC.

AdAstra56 (8:07:14 PM): Yo, I'm Ben Herbert, Univeristy of Colorado, Boulder chapter (CUSEDS) president, MS Aerospace Grad Student

bennumber42 (8:07:16 PM): I'm Ben Brockert. I'm the Vice President and Astronomy Chair, Iowa State Space Society. Vice Chair, SEDS.

lizeeb3 (8:07:41 PM): awesome

lizeeb3 (8:07:58 PM): last meeting we had 7 people

lizeeb3 (8:08:43 PM): so, tonight there isn't really anything on the agenda except chapter updates and x-cup

lizeeb3 (8:08:51 PM): who would like to go first?

lizeeb3 (8:09:19 PM): Darren, how about you?

Jupitune1 (8:09:21 PM): Doesn't matter to me.

Jupitune1 (8:09:47 PM): OK. Well we just became a recognized student org at SDSMT in April

Jupitune1 (8:10:26 PM): We missed funding opps. through the Student Association. So we have a very limited budget right now.

bennumber42 (8:10:35 PM): Welcome to the group.

Jupitune1 (8:10:44 PM): Thanks.

Jupitune1 (8:11:04 PM): We have 6 members that consistently make our meetings

joc 75 (8:11:15 PM) has been invited.

joc 75 (8:11:20 PM) has entered the room.

a v e n o v i a (8:11:22 PM) has been invited.

Jupitune1 (8:11:42 PM): Just last week we had a student organization expo on campus and had about 20 other students who showed interest.

a v e n o v i a (8:11:43 PM) has entered the room.

a v e n o v i a (8:12:18 PM): Hello I'm Lavina, for those I haven't met yet. (sorry I'm late)

Jupitune1 (8:12:23 PM): So we will see at our next meeting how many new members we pick up. Thats about it for us, right now.

lizeeb3 (8:12:29 PM): that's great news

bennumber42 (8:12:42 PM): We did introductions a bit ago, can you say who you are and where you're from?

a v e n o v i a (8:13:04 PM): Me?

lizeeb3 (8:13:19 PM): sure - whoever just arrived

a v e n o v i a (8:13:29 PM): I'm Lavina, and I'm just starting up a chapter of SEDS here in the Philippines

bennumber42 (8:13:30 PM): Yes, please. Darrell too, if he wants.

bennumber42 (8:13:39 PM): Excellent.

Jupitune1 (8:14:34 PM): Did you mean me? Darren Johnson. I am currently Pres and Chapter Rep. at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

lizeeb3 (8:14:34 PM): Darrell, do you want to introduce yourself?

bennumber42 (8:15:08 PM): I meant Darrel Cain. We have two Darrells and two Bens here, so I should have been more specific.

joc 75 (8:15:13 PM): I am Darrell Cain, MIT SEDS

joc 75 (8:15:37 PM): Bruce Mackenzie is also sitting in on the side

joc 75 (8:16:10 PM): We have just finished a general body meeting

lizeeb3 (8:16:27 PM): Ok great. So we were in the process of chapter updates, Ben H., do you have anything to mention?

AdAstra56 (8:17:37 PM): yeah, sure

AdAstra56 (8:17:48 PM): i've been typing in word on the side

AdAstra56 (8:17:58 PM): We're going to have our first meeting of the semester next week. Still don't have a speaker though...

AdAstra56 (8:18:09 PM): but there's been a lot of interest in the group. Hopefully now that things have calmed down we should have a good turn out (we're expecting 35 +/- 10 based on last semester)

AdAstra56 (8:18:21 PM): Our strategic plan is finally done, but we're gonna have a contest of sorts to figure out our "zinger" catch phrase.

AdAstra56 (8:18:33 PM): Seems like we have a large contingent going to XPC but because of lack of time, CUSEDS isn't organizing anything officially, just giving information.

AdAstra56 (8:18:45 PM): Just started working on our funding proposal for SV2006 and should have it in soon.

lizeeb3 (8:18:58 PM): awesome

AdAstra56 (8:19:05 PM): Unfortunately, I'm not sure the school will fund more than 2 or 3 people, which makes it difficult to suggest who goes. I was wondering what you thought about it.

AdAstra56 (8:19:10 PM): I feel selfish going, but being the chapter rep, it makes sense that I do.

AdAstra56 (8:19:40 PM): though i did go last year (I'll be honest, that was my main motivation for forming the group last year, haha)

bennumber42 (8:20:44 PM): It's a neat thing to go to. If it was an official excursion, I'd go for splitting it evenly. Otherwise, it's really up to your membership.

AdAstra56 (8:21:00 PM): well, we have like 30 people

lizeeb3 (8:21:04 PM): Agreed. We are sending as many people as we can afford.

AdAstra56 (8:21:10 PM): i mean, our exec council is only 5

AdAstra56 (8:21:30 PM): but the school will only fund 2-3, and we don't have a lot of other money right now (fundraising is on our list)

bennumber42 (8:21:37 PM): Is Ryan Kobrick on your exec?

AdAstra56 (8:21:49 PM): I also had another question -- is there going to be a SEDS Travel Grant like last year?

AdAstra56 (8:21:58 PM): yeah, he's one of our officers and a good friend of mine

jdunn421 (8:22:13 PM) has entered the room.

bennumber42 (8:22:16 PM): Ok, he responded to the email for chapters going to the cup.

AdAstra56 (8:22:27 PM): he won't be coming though, he's a TA this semester and they won't let him have time off

joc 75 (8:22:37 PM): whaat?

joc 75 (8:22:38 PM): darn

jdunn421 (8:22:47 PM): This is Jason From UCF chapter. I jsut got home, have I missed much?

bennumber42 (8:22:48 PM): If any of the other chapters here are going to the X-Prize Cup, please send me an email, so we can coordinate some sort of SEDS meetup.

AdAstra56 (8:22:51 PM): yeah, it's pretty lame

joc 75 (8:23:28 PM): he was so keen on it earlier during the summer

bennumber42 (8:23:53 PM): Jason, we did introductions and some chapter updates and now are discussing the XPC.

jdunn421 (8:24:00 PM): ok cool

bennumber42 (8:24:21 PM): Are any of the other chapters here going to the cup?

jdunn421 (8:24:24 PM): I think some people from UCF wanted to go, but it mostly depended on the progress of our rocket project,

uarda2003 (8:24:29 PM) has been invited.

jdunn421 (8:24:32 PM): which i think wont be ready

uarda2003 (8:24:46 PM) has entered the room.

Jupitune1 (8:24:54 PM): We won't have anybody going this year.

AdAstra56 (8:25:14 PM): but anyway, that's all the news from Boulder.

lizeeb3 (8:25:44 PM): Excellent

bennumber42 (8:25:49 PM): uarda2003, can you introduce yourself? Full name, chapter?

uarda2003 (8:26:40 PM): Hi guys I am Dhurata from PSU

lizeeb3 (8:26:57 PM): They are just starting a chapter

uarda2003 (8:27:01 PM): I am not a chapter as of yet, I am in baby steps to make the PSU chapter though

bennumber42 (8:27:15 PM): Excellent.

AdAstra56 (8:27:30 PM): PSU = Penn State?

uarda2003 (8:28:28 PM): Yes

uarda2003 (8:28:40 PM): sorry Penn State University - University Park

uarda2003 (8:28:43 PM): campus

uarda2003 (8:28:50 PM): PA

AdAstra56 (8:28:50 PM): oh, thanks

joc 75 (8:28:53 PM): sweet

lizeeb3 (8:28:58 PM): Alright, moving on with the updates, how about Iowa State?

joc 75 (8:29:01 PM): that's number three for our region

Nyeerrmm (8:29:42 PM) has entered the room.

lizeeb3 (8:30:41 PM): Ben?

Nyeerrmm (8:31:03 PM): hi, I'm Brian, the national Outreach chair, and I'm just here for my chapter right now, Texas A&M

bennumber42 (8:31:35 PM): Iowa State Space Society had our third general meeting tonight. I spent all day at Clubfest, and got over a hundred email addresses to add to our mailing list.

a v e n o v i a (8:31:58 PM): Hi Brian

Nyeerrmm (8:32:09 PM): hey, how are you... you're up early

a v e n o v i a (8:32:34 PM): 9:32 AM, hehe. It's not so bad. I'm just glad I didn't have school so I could make it for the meeting.

bennumber42 (8:32:44 PM): We're meeting about the rocket competition tomorrow. If you haven't all heard about it, it's in the newest NOVA and at http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/Rocket_competition and it would be neat to have some other SEDS chapters in it.

lizeeb3 (8:33:51 PM): Anything else? bennumber42 (8:34:08 PM): And we have two members getting their Tripoli Level @ certification this weekend. We're fairly busy. I think that's about it WRT SEDS.

bennumber42 (8:34:24 PM): That's a 2, not an @.

lizeeb3 (8:34:45 PM): cool

lizeeb3 (8:35:00 PM): Lavina, would you like to go next?

a v e n o v i a (8:35:15 PM): Sure.

a v e n o v i a (8:35:55 PM): Our school has very strange rules for starting a club/organization, and we have to go through a whole procedure of applying, and then defending it, and then waiting to hear back from them to see if they approve.

a v e n o v i a (8:36:47 PM): I've just gone through the defense, and it's looking promising. But we're not really waiting on their decision before holding our first meeting, I'm just that excited.

uarda2003 (8:37:03 PM): Which school are you avenovia?

rmmlg08 (8:37:26 PM) has been invited.

rmmlg08 (8:37:30 PM) has entered the room.

a v e n o v i a (8:37:45 PM): We're holding our first meeting tomorrow. I've also talked to someone in the government's Department of Science and Technology, and we'll be working with him on activities for World Space Week, as well as lobbying...

joc 75 (8:37:51 PM) has left the room.

a v e n o v i a (8:37:54 PM): for a Space Research program here in the Philippines

a v e n o v i a (8:38:01 PM): uarda, I'm in the Philippines.

uarda2003 (8:38:13 PM): Oh, thanks

a v e n o v i a (8:38:18 PM): School's called, De La Salle University.

a v e n o v i a (8:38:21 PM): That's about it for me

AdAstra56 (8:38:58 PM): Liz, mind if I interject something I forgot to mention?

lizeeb3 (8:39:04 PM): not at all

AdAstra56 (8:39:32 PM): This is pretty cool: CU Boulder is trying to integrate space into every curiculium on campus

a v e n o v i a (8:39:49 PM): That's awesome!

AdAstra56 (8:39:49 PM): i.e. all the sciences, engineering, law, business, english, etc.

uarda2003 (8:39:58 PM): waw that's great lizeeb3 (8:40:05 PM): wow

Jupitune1 (8:40:08 PM): Sweet

AdAstra56 (8:40:21 PM): yeah, i thought so. Too bad I'll be gone. But I think it is very directly with the Lockheed Orion decision

a v e n o v i a (8:40:23 PM): I'm ultimately hoping to do that here at my university as well. If you have any pointers, do shoot them my way?

AdAstra56 (8:40:26 PM): since it's right in our backyard

a v e n o v i a (8:40:34 PM): Lucky.

AdAstra56 (8:41:10 PM): anyway, thoguht i'd mention that. If one univeristy can get pumped about space, maybe more can

AdAstra56 (8:41:21 PM): i'll try to find out more info about how it happened and report back.

bennumber42 (8:41:28 PM): Please do.

lizeeb3 (8:41:34 PM): you will have to give us updates with how that is going in the future

uarda2003 (8:41:36 PM): please do

AdAstra56 (8:41:41 PM): also, hate to leave early, but I have another meeting to go to.....

AdAstra56 (8:42:03 PM): but good seeing everyone, enjoy the remainder of the meeting.

lizeeb3 (8:42:28 PM): Shall we move onto MIT?

bennumber42 (8:42:38 PM): Thanks for coming, Ben.

AdAstra56 (8:42:39 PM) has left the room.

Jupitune1 (8:42:40 PM): I have to go as well...I will look for the transcipts. See you at the next meeting. Thanks.

rmmlg08 (8:42:55 PM): ok

rmmlg08 (8:43:17 PM): darrell had to run back to his dorm, so he asked me to cover for him

lizeeb3 (8:43:53 PM): ok no problem

rmmlg08 (8:44:02 PM): we just got done with the first meeting

Jupitune1 (8:44:04 PM) has left the room.

rmmlg08 (8:44:11 PM): and had a number of interested freshman

rmmlg08 (8:44:31 PM): so now we'll begin putting them into subgroups for the various projects

rmmlg08 (8:44:33 PM): based on interest

lizeeb3 (8:44:56 PM): what are some of the projects?

rmmlg08 (8:45:24 PM): well, there's the space elevator team (for the nasa centennial challenges)

rmmlg08 (8:45:31 PM): the zero-g team

rmmlg08 (8:45:37 PM): which is similar to the national level team

rmmlg08 (8:46:02 PM): the entrepreneureal team, which we are in the process of starting

lizeeb3 (8:46:21 PM): interesting

rmmlg08 (8:46:46 PM): and a few other side things that we're trying to get together

rmmlg08 (8:46:58 PM): like trying to restart some old chapters in the area

bennumber42 (8:47:02 PM): How many active members do you have?

rmmlg08 (8:47:24 PM): end of last year, we probably had about 7

rmmlg08 (8:47:37 PM): for freshman this year, it's hard to say

rmmlg08 (8:47:48 PM): since they haven't been here long enough to tell

rmmlg08 (8:48:00 PM): but there are a number showing a good deal of interest

bennumber42 (8:49:12 PM): Ok.

lizeeb3 (8:49:33 PM): thats good - as long as the interest in maintained

lizeeb3 (8:49:44 PM): anything else from MIT?

rmmlg08 (8:49:54 PM): no

lizeeb3 (8:50:41 PM): ok

lizeeb3 (8:50:51 PM): is there anyone who hasn't updated yet?

uarda2003 (8:51:11 PM): Well mind if i say a word

lizeeb3 (8:51:31 PM): go right ahead

jdunn421 (8:51:37 PM): just curious, is anyone on here from ucf besiides me?

uarda2003 (8:52:13 PM): I haven't gotten any thing yet from the university however I have spoken to people to the organizations I belong to (SWE, AIAA) and they introduced me to the main e-mail engine. I hope that gets a lot of attention

uarda2003 (8:52:29 PM): And people from these organizations have shown interest too

uarda2003 (8:52:36 PM): that's so far

jdunn421 (8:53:00 PM): everyone will be at the conference right?

lizeeb3 (8:53:22 PM): we are trying to send about 15 people

lizeeb3 (8:53:30 PM): (from Illinois)

jdunn421 (8:53:33 PM): awesome

Nyeerrmm (8:53:35 PM): we hope to send a few from TAMU

bennumber42 (8:53:49 PM): We'll have at least four.

jdunn421 (8:53:52 PM): have you got airfare and everything figured out yet? bennumber42 (8:53:59 PM): No.

Nyeerrmm (8:54:02 PM): no

rmmlg08 (8:54:14 PM): we have at least 4 coming

lizeeb3 (8:54:21 PM): not for the conference, we are still working on the logistics for the XCup

Nyeerrmm (8:55:03 PM): Is there any national level organization for logistics for the XCup?

Nyeerrmm (8:55:11 PM): i remember we talked about it but havent heard anything recently

lizeeb3 (8:55:33 PM): There is a travel agent that has gotten Illinois some discounts

jdunn421 (8:55:49 PM): cool

lizeeb3 (8:55:49 PM): I was told to go through her if you have a large group of volunteers

bennumber42 (8:55:52 PM): I'm trying to get some sort of meet at the cup set up for SEDS members.

jdunn421 (8:56:05 PM): do you know what day youll be here?

lizeeb3 (8:56:15 PM): Contact information is here if you are curious: http://www.plazatravel.com/xprize/

lizeeb3 (8:56:26 PM): Illinois will be arriving Thursday Oct. 19

jdunn421 (8:57:05 PM): ok cool

Nyeerrmm (8:57:06 PM): thanks... TAMU will leave friday and get in late friday night

Nyeerrmm (8:57:12 PM): i think

jdunn421 (8:57:54 PM): I personally havent done much of the conference planning, but I am curious if all of you are getting the information you need from us?

lizeeb3 (8:59:04 PM): is todd still the primary contact for the conference?

jdunn421 (8:59:59 PM): um, well Todd is working now, in Las Vegas. Our V.P Damion is doing the most work

lizeeb3 (9:00:09 PM): ok

jdunn421 (9:00:22 PM): but Todd is still helping a lot

lizeeb3 (9:00:39 PM): we haven't started planning for that yet, but i just wanted to know

lizeeb3 (9:00:49 PM): anyway, is there anything else anyone wants to mention?

a v e n o v i a (9:01:12 PM): I can't think of anything else on my end.

a v e n o v i a (9:01:37 PM): Oh, actually. It just occurred to me.

a v e n o v i a (9:02:21 PM): Do International members have to apply for membership, and pay dues and such? (not the chapter itself, but individually) Because I remember we had to do that at ERFSEDS

lizeeb3 (9:03:51 PM): I don't think you have to pay dues, but I am not 100% sure. I will find that out for you though

a v e n o v i a (9:04:02 PM): Thank you

lizeeb3 (9:04:28 PM): Ok if there is nothing else, you are all free to go

lizeeb3 (9:04:43 PM): I will send out a reminder email for the next meeting, which should be in two weeks

a v e n o v i a (9:04:44 PM): Alright. It was nice meeting you all

bennumber42 (9:05:03 PM): You too.

a v e n o v i a (9:05:10 PM) has left the room.

Nyeerrmm (9:05:25 PM): goodnight all
