lizeeb3 (7:59:52 PM): Hi everyone lizeeb3 (8:00:11 PM): how are you guys doing tonight? littleC3788 (8:00:31 PM): fine, i guess Jedi8798 (8:00:37 PM): allright rramadas009 (8:00:54 PM): fine Jedi8798 (8:00:55 PM): eyes are a little strained after spending the last 2 hours in tours of SL lizeeb3 (8:01:16 PM): oh wow BZWingZero (8:01:23 PM): Its big Nyeerrmm (8:02:36 PM): the usual, busy and all that lizeeb3 (8:03:21 PM): well before we do the rest of the updates, Josh was going to talk about something really cool... Jedi8798 (8:04:44 PM): Yeah, I was in SL today and got a tour of CoLabs by one of its creators, and the creator of Yuris Night in Second Life Jedi8798 (8:05:07 PM): they currently are giving lots of spaces in CoLabs to NSS, Ames, Goddard, MarsDrive, etc.. Jedi8798 (8:05:15 PM): to do their own projects or meetings Jedi8798 (8:05:39 PM): and they'll give us space there if we want it, to host a Exec board meeting, or just set up a display about SEDS Jedi8798 (8:05:43 PM): or space in general Jedi8798 (8:06:03 PM): I was wondering if you all would be interested in having our next exec board meeting actually in a conference room in Second Life Jedi8798 (8:06:05 PM): see how it works rmmlg08 (8:06:25 PM): we were initially looking into doing something like this for the conference rmmlg08 (8:06:35 PM): but were having trouble getting the manpower to pull it off rmmlg08 (8:06:44 PM): if most of this has been set up as it seems to be rmmlg08 (8:06:57 PM): then this is back in our capability again I think Jedi8798 (8:07:07 PM): yup Jedi8798 (8:07:32 PM): CoLabs is trying to be a free source for space organziations trying to do stuff in SL Jedi8798 (8:07:42 PM): they offer free land plots, etc.. for larger scale projects Jedi8798 (8:08:08 PM): and they have some nice rooms in their main complex, next to the International Space Museum lizeeb3 (8:08:17 PM): is everyone familiar with Second Life? BZWingZero (8:08:25 PM): I will be by next week rmmlg08 (8:08:32 PM): that sounds great Jedi8798 (8:08:55 PM): if you guys give the OK, I'll handle getting the conference room set up, etc... lizeeb3 (8:09:10 PM): I think its a great idea rmmlg08 (8:09:55 PM): so is this a conference room that we can have permanently Jedi8798 (8:10:12 PM): we can probally get it set up permenantly if we like it rmmlg08 (8:10:48 PM): because then we can use it for exec/coc meetings if we like, SV, and any other things that come up that would like it Jedi8798 (8:10:55 PM): yeah Jedi8798 (8:11:00 PM): exactly Jedi8798 (8:11:09 PM): which is what they're starting to do for a bunch of the NASA meetings Jedi8798 (8:11:12 PM): at Ames, etc.. rmmlg08 (8:11:28 PM): do they have like streaming and such set up Jedi8798 (8:11:47 PM): streaming video is possible Jedi8798 (8:11:52 PM): as are power points, etc... rmmlg08 (8:11:57 PM): very good Jedi8798 (8:12:20 PM): problem is alot of those fancier gadgets take a good computer/internet connection Jedi8798 (8:12:33 PM): so we might want to make sure everyone can handle Second Life itself first rmmlg08 (8:12:38 PM): yeah Jedi8798 (8:13:08 PM): http://www.secondlife.com/ Jedi8798 (8:13:15 PM): thats where you can download the software Jedi8798 (8:13:31 PM): its 100% free, you dont have to give them your credit card info or anything unless you want to Jedi8798 (8:13:41 PM): I wouldnt suggest it unless you get addicted Jedi8798 (8:14:41 PM): Any questions? If you need help getting set up, etc.. just send me an IM lizeeb3 (8:15:03 PM): everyone please check it out before next week lizeeb3 (8:16:20 PM): alright let's move on the updates that we missed from last week lizeeb3 (8:16:55 PM): here are the people that still need to go: me, ryan, dan, jake, damion, and carissa lizeeb3 (8:17:37 PM): any volunteers for going first? lizeeb3 (8:18:12 PM): Ok, if not I'll start off lizeeb3 (8:18:35 PM): Basically I am 95% finished with the research paper lizeeb3 (8:19:03 PM): which had 8 contributors and was one of our high-profile, low-budget ideas lizeeb3 (8:19:32 PM): when it is completed, it will be up on our website and i am going to try to get it on spaceref and nasa-watch lizeeb3 (8:19:41 PM): george whitesides can help with this lizeeb3 (8:20:00 PM): otherwise, i have been updating the board of advisors monthly with our progress lizeeb3 (8:20:42 PM): as far as they were there, i am planning on getting the preliminary proposal sent out in a week lizeeb3 (8:21:02 PM): the first people who will be interviewed will be alumni and members of the advosiry board lizeeb3 (8:21:31 PM): Kirk mentioned doing the project on SEDS' blogs but I am not sure about that yet lizeeb3 (8:22:01 PM): any comments or suggestions? I'd be happy to hear them lizeeb3 (8:24:28 PM): alright, if there is nothing, Ryan said he will update next rmmlg08 (8:24:36 PM): ok rmmlg08 (8:24:43 PM): My goals for this term have centered around the alumni database, the board of advisors, conference attendance, and a website revamp. rmmlg08 (8:24:59 PM): As for the alumni database, I have successfully increased the size of the database and inreased the data filed to hopefully have any contact info we could need for the contacting alumni. rmmlg08 (8:25:10 PM): As for the Board of Advisors, I have with Kirk's help brought the Board of Advisors and Board of Alumni and have been trying to convince people to use them (I have found them useful, especially conference wise). rmmlg08 (8:25:22 PM): most of them have proven to be rather responsive rmmlg08 (8:25:40 PM): to reiterate, I've used them and the board of alumni a few times so far rmmlg08 (8:25:47 PM): and they have been very helpful rmmlg08 (8:26:11 PM): so I will take this chance again to encourage you guys to either contact them or have me connect them to you rmmlg08 (8:26:50 PM): I have a pretty good idea who the various peopel are so should be able to find you someone depending on what your problem is...exec board wise or chapter wise rmmlg08 (8:27:14 PM): As for Conference attendance, I have not been doing very well getting people to tell me when they were going to conferences despite my numerous emails to that extent. rmmlg08 (8:27:22 PM): I am however upping the ante on that by emailing specific peopel to find out if they are going to conferences. rmmlg08 (8:27:51 PM): I have had more success in getting people to tell me about the conferences after tehy went (I learned of peopel who went to conferences at the last COC meeting) rmmlg08 (8:28:06 PM): I can then use these responses to encourage others to attend in the future. So, I plead to you guys yet again to telll me when you guys are thinking about going to conferences and how it goes afterward. rmmlg08 (8:28:10 PM): I'm going to make an especially large push for ISDC. Jedi8798 (8:28:17 PM): *nods* rmmlg08 (8:28:23 PM): [stupid aim not letting me send copy large portions of text] rmmlg08 (8:28:51 PM): so please let me know if you know of anyone going to any upcomng conferences rmmlg08 (8:28:55 PM): namely isdc and newspace rmmlg08 (8:29:24 PM): and I will beign contacting chapters individually since emails to the big lists seem to have been largely ineffective rmmlg08 (8:29:25 PM): ie rmmlg08 (8:29:33 PM): peope have been going to conferences rmmlg08 (8:29:46 PM): but apparenlty don't like to tell me such despite my pleas for such rmmlg08 (8:30:01 PM): As for the website, I have cleaned up the site a second time and added various functionality increases. rmmlg08 (8:30:05 PM): We are also moving forward with getting these google ads set up. rmmlg08 (8:30:10 PM): I still have to integrate more with chapter websites and increasing visibility, but am on track with that according to my gantt chart rmmlg08 (8:30:15 PM): questions, comments? lizeeb3 (8:31:45 PM): ok great. lizeeb3 (8:31:52 PM): carissa is going to go next littleC3788 (8:31:55 PM): This year, I have become more familiar with html formatting in order to post the transcripts on the website. I have posted all transcripts and attendance up until this week (as the meeting is in process right now). Anyways, starting at the beginning of this semester, I have tried to post the transcripts and attendance right after the meeting. I found that it is more effective this way since I am already on my computer anyways. If I didn’t attend the meeting or got booted off of AIM, then I try to post them as soon as I get the transcript. Send Message Failed. Message is too long. littleC3788 (8:32:11 PM): This year, I have become more familiar with html formatting in order to post the transcripts on the website. RolandBolser (8:35:40 PM): okay, RolandBolser (8:35:46 PM): I guess that's my cue RolandBolser (8:36:07 PM): This year I've been able to contact a number of schools about starting chapters RolandBolser (8:36:32 PM): some have given positive responses while others have been underinterested RolandBolser (8:37:02 PM): I've also tried contact people on a more personal level with online groups and list servs trying to get into conversations RolandBolser (8:37:39 PM): I've been trying to help parties get off the ground and keep them in contact with us RolandBolser (8:38:09 PM): and I'm trying to broadcast our name and image at a wider audience, aiming for the UB approach of a science club for all majors RolandBolser (8:38:20 PM): that's the jist RolandBolser (8:38:24 PM): q/c? lizeeb3 (8:39:06 PM): how many new groups have shown interest? lizeeb3 (8:39:09 PM): (approx) RolandBolser (8:39:18 PM): 10 to 15 by now RolandBolser (8:39:39 PM): They ask what they need to do to join then scamper off lizeeb3 (8:40:00 PM): ok lizeeb3 (8:40:06 PM): pretty typical lizeeb3 (8:40:21 PM): try to stay in contact with them and tell them you'll help them out if they need it lizeeb3 (8:40:29 PM): good job though Viridis321 (8:41:15 PM): alright, I guess that means I'm up Viridis321 (8:41:39 PM): I've basically been good for the CoC meetings this semester and posting the transcripts on the wiki Viridis321 (8:41:54 PM): I've got one chapter update from the chapters, most of which are also posted on the wiki Viridis321 (8:42:36 PM): I haven't gotten much of anything that I wanted to get done completed this semester, but plan on playing major catch up over the summer Viridis321 (8:43:21 PM): most of what I plan on doing is helping with updating the chapter contacts and making the lists "easier" to read Viridis321 (8:43:43 PM): by adding the names next to the email contact Viridis321 (8:44:10 PM): I also plan on helping out with the chapter expansion as well Viridis321 (8:44:36 PM): and that's about where I'm out now lizeeb3 (8:45:11 PM): comments for Damion? Viridis321 (8:45:12 PM): I also wanted to get some feedback on this weeks CoC meeting Viridis321 (8:45:40 PM): it'll be Yuri's night, and I'll be at a celebration with my chapter as I'm sure several others will be as well Jedi8798 (8:45:43 PM): question, is this weeks CoC still happening despite Yuris Night? Jedi8798 (8:45:44 PM): ah k Viridis321 (8:46:06 PM): so should I postpone it till next week or move it to some other time this week lizeeb3 (8:46:51 PM): I'd postpone it one week, usually it is too difficult to find a different time where the reps are availible ( in my experience) Jedi8798 (8:46:55 PM): agreed rmmlg08 (8:46:58 PM): yeah Viridis321 (8:47:00 PM): ok will do lizeeb3 (8:47:20 PM): cool lizeeb3 (8:47:31 PM): last comments for Damion? lizeeb3 (8:47:54 PM): If not, Dan will go next dandersonn43 (8:47:57 PM): My focus this semester has been on improving communications with other seds chapters. The principle medium is this bog I have on blogs.seds. dandersonn43 (8:48:06 PM): Also I had a dialogue going with SEDS India, although that didn't last. Unfortunately I haven't been updating the blog very often, although with the semster coming to an end the goal is one a month, unless something big happens. dandersonn43 (8:48:42 PM): In which case it will be sooner dandersonn43 (8:49:30 PM): And that's it. Well, there was one SSETI group that never got back to me. lizeeb3 (8:50:11 PM): has Kirk gotten in contact with you recently regarding the blog dandersonn43 (8:50:17 PM): No lizeeb3 (8:50:23 PM): ok just curious dandersonn43 (8:50:39 PM): I posted something in the seds earth blod a while back.... dandersonn43 (8:51:49 PM): Questions? lizeeb3 (8:52:47 PM): ok I guess that is it lizeeb3 (8:52:56 PM): overall we are doing well lizeeb3 (8:53:28 PM): keep up the good work - especially in the summer...long breaks seem to make it harder to stay on task dandersonn43 (8:53:46 PM): Good evening lizeeb3 (8:53:53 PM): Does anyone have any old or new business for the meeting tonight? lizeeb3 (8:55:05 PM): John is having some issues with the irs regarding the tax exemption lizeeb3 (8:55:14 PM): I'll keep you updated Jedi8798 (8:55:17 PM): ouch Jedi8798 (8:55:29 PM): we need to get that Jedi8798 (8:55:43 PM): if there's anything I can do to help speed that along Jedi8798 (8:55:44 PM): let me know lizeeb3 (8:55:46 PM): basically he needs info about a possible past exemption from 1985 lizeeb3 (8:56:07 PM): if any of you have information or know someone who would know...let me know Jedi8798 (8:56:09 PM): 1985? that would be a Diamandis question probally lizeeb3 (8:56:15 PM): so far the alumni have been contacted lizeeb3 (8:56:34 PM): I am anticipating this is resolved soon as the alumni will contact John directly lizeeb3 (8:56:39 PM): yes lizeeb3 (8:57:13 PM): any other annoucements for this week? lizeeb3 (8:58:17 PM): If not, have a good night and I'll talk to you next week lizeeb3 (8:58:24 PM): thanks for being on time and prepared littleC3788 (8:58:28 PM): goodnight RolandBolser (8:58:30 PM): bye everyone
