Jedi8798: Do a quick test to make sure everyone is
really here.... Everyone say "Aye"
hydrogenlithium: Aye
rmmlg08: "Aye"
KellyMann10: aye
bzwingzero: eye
bzwingzero: aye*
hydrogenlithium: sorry about the massive text, I am
new to this chat thing
nyeerrmm has left the room.
RolandBolser: aye
RolandBolser: goddamn no sound
Jedi8798: *sighs* and Brian seems to have died again
Jedi8798: well lets go with what we've got
Jedi8798: Going in a completly arbitrary order....
DarrellDCain: aye
Jedi8798: Darrell wanted to talk about the upcoming
Council of Chapters meeting
Jedi8798: Darrell you have the floor
DarrellDCain: alright
DarrellDCain: Originally plan was to contact and
develop chapter reps for a coc launch in early January
DarrellDCain: I'm now looking at the exact launch date
DarrellDCain: do people have a preference between
early, mid to late January?
KellyMann10: no preference
RolandBolser: Late
Jedi8798: any
nyeerrmm has entered the room.
DarrellDCain: why late?
RolandBolser: because people
RolandBolser: will still be on break until late
RolandBolser: and no one's going to show up over break
DarrellDCain: alright, logic holds
DarrellDCain: that brings up the second item, should
we hold them over the summer?
nyeerrmm: its too long to go without i think
bzwingzero: If you can get the attendance, I say go
for it.
RolandBolser: who has anything to add really?
KellyMann10: i wouldnt mind, but its probably up to
the chapters
nyeerrmm: cut the frequency maybe
RolandBolser: maybe once or twice to keep them alive
Jedi8798: I'd say aye
DarrellDCain: frequency will already be once a month
DarrellDCain: so it shouldn't be a problem
DarrellDCain: I'm going to be in contact with these
people on a regular basis
DarrellDCain: but the actual meeting will be once a
month
DarrellDCain: alright
DarrellDCain: next item,
DarrellDCain: why is GWU still listed as a chapter!
DarrellDCain: oh..no one to update them
DarrellDCain: okay..next item
Jedi8798: lol
hydrogenlithium: So it used to be a chapter, right?
Jedi8798: yeah
Jedi8798: its up on the list
Jedi8798: because they used to be
DarrellDCain: now they're independent
hydrogenlithium: Isn't that Anousheh's university
Jedi8798: and we want to remake them into a chapter
hydrogenlithium: yeah
hydrogenlithium:
Jedi8798: if at all possible
DarrellDCain: they're not happy with the idea
DarrellDCain: be forewarned
DarrellDCain: anyways
DarrellDCain: I'm going to need one member from the
board to attend each COC meeting in an official
capacity
DarrellDCain: so be prepared to be assigned that from
Josh
DarrellDCain: final item, I'm going to plan the dates
for each COC meetings before even the first one and
post them
DarrellDCain: so be aware that document will be coming
up
DarrellDCain: that should be it for COC
DarrellDCain: oh..but in a Chapters affair sense
DarrellDCain: I'm going to be encouraging chapters
working together to attend conferences
DarrellDCain: starting with ISDC
DarrellDCain: any questions for me?
RolandBolser: do you want ot
DarrellDCain: ot?
RolandBolser: have any discussions with these guys
about this
RolandBolser: to\
RolandBolser: sorry, fat fingers
DarrellDCain: what sort of discussions?
RolandBolser: well, I'm just thinking about what they
think about stuff within SEDS of course but also
shooting the shiite with them about what's going on in
the space world
DarrellDCain: oh
RolandBolser: keep them interested and updated on
stuff
DarrellDCain: yes
DarrellDCain: the plan is to talk to these reps on a
monthly basis
DarrellDCain: outside of COC
DarrellDCain: at least
DarrellDCain: if they want to talk more I won't stop
them
RolandBolser: not in a group setting tho
RolandBolser: shoot
DarrellDCain: hmm
RolandBolser: ok, nvrmd
DarrellDCain: I will allow them to do such after the
meeting
DarrellDCain: but it won't be happening during the
meeting
DarrellDCain: oh...also...UA has requested we move the
meetings to the weekend
DarrellDCain: I don't know what to make of that
KellyMann10: im fine with either
rmmlg08: I feel you're going to lose people that way
RolandBolser: seconded
rmmlg08: [this coming from someone who has no life]
Jedi8798: agreed
DarrellDCain: Roland -> seconded rmmlg08?
nyeerrmm: yeah, who wants to be online at 6 or 7 or 8
on a saturday night
DarrellDCain: got it
DarrellDCain: agreed
DarrellDCain: alright...questions?
DarrellDCain: then I step down from the floor
Jedi8798: Allright
Jedi8798: next item...
Jedi8798: So we have 6000 in our bank account
RolandBolser: party time!
RolandBolser: vegas!
Jedi8798: Brian, Ryan, and myself have been discussing
using a small bit of this money to make SEDS lapel
pins
Jedi8798: Brian's been heading up the effort on
this... Brian
Jedi8798: ?
DarrellDCain: query
nyeerrmm: all right, i have two designs
nyeerrmm: http://tamu.seds.org/images/Pins/
DarrellDCain: nvm
nyeerrmm: i personally prefer the second, (i switched
it to silver due to some visibility concerns)
KellyMann10: I as well
bzwingzero: Same.
RolandBolser: told ya
nyeerrmm: Josh, do you think the silver alleviates
some of your concerns about visibility?
bzwingzero: A little note on the side, my dad does
pins for Disney, so I can get his input to make sure
it is properly formatted for a pin design. (Nothing
too thin, everithing readily visible, eg)
Jedi8798: eh, dunno in the end we'll just have to make
them and see
nyeerrmm: all right, well, after next week when
schools over i'll start looking at companies to do it
Jedi8798: What were you estimating as the cost for
production, and when would we have tehse done by?
Jedi8798: these*
nyeerrmm: Brian, if you could ask your dad what he
thinks that would be great, hopefully in the next week
or so
bzwingzero: Sure.
nyeerrmm: about $2 a piece for 300 count
nyeerrmm: and... a few weeks i believe, id have to
look it up to be sure
RolandBolser: size?
nyeerrmm: 3/4"
RolandBolser: k
RolandBolser: that's really small
Jedi8798: supposed to be
Jedi8798: lapel pins are small
nyeerrmm: Ryan's on his way, by the way
RolandBolser: yeah, just thtat was the diamtere of the
YN pins and they were circles
nyeerrmm: yeah, that size seems pretty appropriate
nyeerrmm: anything larger would look ridiculous
nyeerrmm: i think anyway
RolandBolser: k
bzwingzero: Well, with the proportions, the long way
could be as big as 1" without looking wrong.
Jedi8798: hmm *goes to print and cut one out to get a
perspective*
nyeerrmm: maybe, but of course thats more cost, and
going too big has a tendency to look gaudy
RolandBolser: yeah, I know
bzwingzero: The second one, being mostly cutout wont
seem as large due to all the negative space.
Jedi8798: most of the rectangular ones tend to be 1"
in size
Jedi8798: non rectangular tend to be 3/4"
Jedi8798: (took out my space pin collection and
started measuring)
Jedi8798: Does anyone else have anything further to
add to the debate on this item?
bzwingzero: and are we looking at a matte, brushed, or
shiny finish?
RolandBolser: also, enamel or cloistonne?
nyeerrmm has left the room.
nyeerrmm has been invited.
Jedi8798: *sighs*
rmmlg08 has left the room.
Jedi8798: wow
Jedi8798: are people getting booted for some reason?
KellyMann10: im still here
rmmlg08 has been invited.
bzwingzero: im not having any problems, and my
connection is about as nonstandard as it comes: Pidgin
over wireless in Linux
aeroaggie84 has been invited.
Jedi8798: Ryan is still in here, but he cant speak for
some reason
Jedi8798: the chat thinks it booted him
AeroAggie84 has entered the room.
nyeerrmm has entered the room.
AeroAggie84: howdy all...sorry about the time screw up
Jedi8798: np
AeroAggie84: still getting used to the time zone issue
KellyMann10: hi
nyeerrmm: did anyone have any other comments on the
lapel pins before i was unceremoniously booted
Jedi8798: *sighs* someone else please try to invite
Ryan Mclinko back into the chat?
rmmlg08 has entered the room.
rmmlg08: there we go
Jedi8798: ok...
Jedi8798: next person to leave gets to drive with
Darrell at the next conference
Jedi8798:
hydrogenlithium: lol
RolandBolser: (cough) join the facebook group (cough)
KellyMann10: haha
bzwingzero: Am I the only college student who doesn't
use facebook?
Jedi8798: Brian, people asked if you're looking at a
matte, brushed, or shiny finish
RolandBolser: yes
nyeerrmm: group(s)
AeroAggie84: nope...i dont have one
Jedi8798: and/or enamel or cloistonne
nyeerrmm: i personally prefer brushed
KellyMann10: same here
bzwingzero: same
DarrellDCain: I like to drive
DarrellDCain: ISDC
rmmlg08: that's the problem
nyeerrmm: to be fair, he didn't do anything horrible
at XPC
nyeerrmm: although as josh has pointed out it would be
hard to
Jedi8798: ok guys
rmmlg08: true, we all survived
DarrellDCain: Pin 1 is more traditional
Jedi8798: back on pins
DarrellDCain: pin 2 is actually pretty cool though
nyeerrmm: and it depends on whether or not they can do
it easily
bzwingzero: The second one is more of a modern look
RolandBolser: second looks tumlinson
Jedi8798: ok in that case
RolandBolser: and it has cool shadow effects
Jedi8798: I'm closing debate on this item
Jedi8798: All in favor of continuing research on lapel
pins? (Aye)
Jedi8798: (options are Aye/Nay)
nyeerrmm: aye
bzwingzero: aye
DarrellDCain: aye
AeroAggie84: haha aye
RolandBolser: aye
KellyMann10: aye
Jedi8798: the aye's have it
rmmlg08: aye
nyeerrmm: all right, ill contact a company to get
estimates and such in the next couple of weeks then
Jedi8798: ok, let us know once you have estimates
bzwingzero: they will most likely want the logo in a
vector format
Jedi8798: then we can vote on how much money to spend
on it
nyeerrmm: all right, i'll get on that then
nyeerrmm: shouldn't be too hard
Jedi8798: When is your goal of having these done? Does
end of January sound reasonable?
nyeerrmm: sounds doable
Jedi8798: ok
Jedi8798: moving on to next item
Jedi8798: Haoqi wanted to discuss the SEDS expansion
packet
hydrogenlithium: yeah
Jedi8798: You have the floor
hydrogenlithium: so does anybody know what's been
done. Have they been printed?
hydrogenlithium: 2. Who has the electronic files?
Jedi8798: in the past they were printed and sent to
new prospective chapters
Jedi8798: as well as electronically
hydrogenlithium: who sent them?
Jedi8798: Ryan, were you able to find the electronic
file?
DarrellDCain: there are really old ones in the MIT
SEDS office
Jedi8798: (Director of Expansion sent them)
hydrogenlithium: didn't he not exist last year
rmmlg08: there is the one on the website
rmmlg08: which isn't that old
rmmlg08: but other than that, that is all I have ever
known about
rmmlg08: kit.php
hydrogenlithium: I heard that people have a newer
version (newer than the website), is that true?
rmmlg08: as I have told you several times, to my
knowledge, no
RolandBolser: we were working on constitution stuff
this past year and I made a basic form for people to
fill out to start a chapter
RolandBolser: but a kit has not been designed
Jedi8798: I completly forgot about that version that
Alex made
Jedi8798: Darrell, could you show Haoqi some of the
old ones in the MIT office?
DarrellDCain: yeah
hydrogenlithium: alex's version? Is that newer than
the website?
Jedi8798: then Haoqi, you can also use some of the
stuff at www.seds.org/kit.php
Jedi8798: as well as anything you decide to change
hydrogenlithium: ok. I am done.
Jedi8798: cool beans
Jedi8798: Do you have an estimate on when this will be
done by?
hydrogenlithium: I think it will be modified as we go.
I will do a first update by the end of winter break
hydrogenlithium: I'm hosed for finals
hydrogenlithium: so nothign before that
hydrogenlithium: thank you. I'm done.
Jedi8798: k
Jedi8798: next on the list... I've looked at hte past
exec boards to see how they ran meetings in order to
keep them running effectively
Jedi8798: one thing that keeps coming up is Roberts
Rules of Order
Jedi8798: Are any of you familar with them / have any
experiance using them?
DarrellDCain: yep!
RolandBolser: little bit
DarrellDCain: used them all through high school
Jedi8798: What do you guys think of them, and the
possibility of applying them to Exec meetings to run
them more efficiently?
DarrellDCain: don't they involve recognizing people to
speak?
rmmlg08: for those of us who have no idea what you're
talking about:
Jedi8798: http://www.robertsrules.org/rror--00.htm
Jedi8798: Roberts rules is a set of rules to 'assist'
a organization in running effective meetings
Jedi8798: obviously the link I sent you guys is wayyy
too in depth
rmmlg08: this robert guy had way to much time on his
hands
Jedi8798: lol
KellyMann10: k
Jedi8798: Darrell, Jake?
AeroAggie84: after looking at this...its clear he
really was a General
Jedi8798: lol
RolandBolser: I think they would cut out getting off
topic, but I would want to see some relaxation for
when we get fun topics like launches
DarrellDCain: agreed...but what really helps with
Roberts Rules of Order is a way for the chair to
recognize people
DarrellDCain: and that's hard with AIM
RolandBolser: let's try it out
RolandBolser: for a week
RolandBolser: then see how if it's doable
Jedi8798: Other opinions?
DarrellDCain: modify it so the floor is given to a
person and that person can open and close general
comments time?
Jedi8798: Yeah I think if anything, we'd have to use a
modified version
DarrellDCain: I'm fine with it
AeroAggie84: sure man...its all good
RolandBolser: got my vote
KellyMann10: lets try it
Jedi8798: ok all in favor of imposing a version of
Roberts Rules on future exec meetings?
Jedi8798: (Aye/Nay)
KellyMann10: aye
nyeerrmm: aye
DarrellDCain: Aye
RolandBolser: aye
AeroAggie84: aye
rmmlg08: aye
hydrogenlithium: aye
bzwingzero: aye
Jedi8798: Motion carries
rmmlg08: can you send out the basic points
Jedi8798: yeah
Jedi8798: I'll write up a modified SEDS version for us
Jedi8798: and the basics
Jedi8798: probably not for next meeting, but the
meeting after
Jedi8798: (I've got finals too)
KellyMann10: sounds good
Jedi8798: So look at implementing them for the
December 18th meeting
AeroAggie84: yeah finals = bad
Jedi8798: Ok, Ryan McLinko, did you want to go over
any of the endowment fund stuff with the board?
Jedi8798: before the meeting with the advisors?
rmmlg08: I don't really have anything new
rmmlg08: to talk with you guys about
Jedi8798: plans for the upcoming meeting?
rmmlg08: (directed to me)
rmmlg08: ?
Jedi8798: yup
rmmlg08: so many of hte people there
rmmlg08: aren't too familar yet with the fund
rmmlg08: so it will likely be more of an introduction
to it
rmmlg08: and some initial comments
rmmlg08: so we can see where we want to proceed with
it
rmmlg08: that's the basic plan
Jedi8798: k
Jedi8798: skimming through this.... I've so far only
seen 2 gannt charts from people so far
Jedi8798: please try to get those either in to me, or
on google docs by next meeting
KellyMann10: mine will be in tomorrow or the day after
Jedi8798: with that, thats basically all for tonight
Jedi8798: I'd like everyone to come to the next
meeting with an officer update
RolandBolser has left the room.
Jedi8798: of what progress has been made in their
position so far
KellyMann10: sure
Jedi8798: With that, goodnight all
