[18:03] Flight Band: All Go
[18:04] Drew Frobozz is Online
[18:04] danderson Beck: Why shouldn't we get They were there posted in the aviation week blog?
[18:04] Eleven Vella: I think it would be a good idea
[18:04] danderson Beck: I don't see any down sides
[18:04] danderson Beck: maybe spam
[18:04] Eleven Vella: I was wondering if anyone had any objections
[18:05] You: just make sure anything we post to something national is very well written
[18:05] Eleven Vella: Loretta said she could do that for us
[18:05] Eleven Vella: yes, and it is going to be relatively short about 700 words
[18:06] Eleven Vella: does anyone else see a fault in this?
[18:06] RolandBolser Voom: none
[18:06] Eleven Vella: ok great
[18:06] Eleven Vella: I am going to retract my invitation about the interviews right now
[18:07] danderson Beck: yeah?
[18:07] Eleven Vella: I have a couple of general members who I never had contact me before asking for an interview
[18:07] Eleven Vella: so i am going to give it to them first
[18:07] Eleven Vella: but definitely let me know if you would like to do one
[18:07] Eleven Vella: by email or here now or whatever
[18:08] danderson Beck: I think I might know someone you would want for this.
[18:08] danderson Beck: To interview I mean
[18:08] Eleven Vella: who?
[18:09] Eleven Vella: we can really use more interviewees
[18:09] danderson Beck: This Dr. Pepper. He appearantly did some early work with computation fluid dynamics
[18:09] danderson Beck: He's my boss
[18:09] Eleven Vella: Oh yes
[18:09] Eleven Vella: That would be great
[18:09] Eleven Vella: you can interview him if you want
[18:10] Eleven Vella: I can send you some questions - the ones I am sending to everyone else
[18:10] danderson Beck: sure
[18:10] Eleven Vella: or I can assign him to someone else
[18:10] Eleven Vella: which would you prefer?
[18:10] danderson Beck: well you;d have to find someone else in vegas...
[18:11] Eleven Vella: yeah - or phone interview them
[18:11] danderson Beck: When would you want this by? True
[18:11] Eleven Vella: but in person would be preferable
[18:11] Eleven Vella: the end of the summer
[18:11] danderson Beck: oh
[18:11] Eleven Vella: no real deadline
[18:11] danderson Beck: yeah if he's up for it I can interview him
[18:11] Eleven Vella: ok great
[18:12] Eleven Vella: I'll follow through with you via email
[18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: where have you looked for interviewees so far
[18:12] Eleven Vella: the advisory board and the alumni's recommendations
[18:12] RolandBolser Voom: the guy from XCOR (head scientist) might make an interestng candidate
[18:12] Eleven Vella: they are trickling in
[18:13] Eleven Vella: yes
[18:13] Eleven Vella: I mean, if any of you have good contacts, we should use them
[18:13] You: Phoenix Mars Mission PI Peter Smith might be an interesting one
[18:13] RolandBolser Voom: I have his email address and in two weeks time some of us will be face to face with him
[18:13] Ryanblah Qinan: worden should be able to hook us up with a number of people
[18:13] Eleven Vella: if not, I can look up their info
[18:13] danderson Beck: Have you asked any profs?
[18:13] Eleven Vella: yes
[18:13] Ryanblah Qinan: would be great if we can get some apollo people
[18:14] Eleven Vella: and no to professors
[18:14] Eleven Vella: yeah the apollo engineers/astronauts would be ideal
[18:14] Eleven Vella: i'll make that a priority when looking
[18:15] danderson Beck: What was the name of that guy who gave a speech in Orlando, was a intern on the apollo program
[18:15] danderson Beck: although you;d probably asked him already
[18:15] Eleven Vella: hmm I'm not sure
[18:16] Eleven Vella: not Mark Craig...right?
[18:16] danderson Beck: on second
[18:17] danderson Beck: yeah probably
[18:17] danderson Beck: nvm
[18:17] Eleven Vella: ok
[18:17] Eleven Vella: any other comments about They Were There?
[18:17] Eleven Vella: Ryan recently posted some info on seds.org
[18:18] Eleven Vella: Alright
[18:18] Eleven Vella: moving on
[18:18] Eleven Vella: Regarding the Art Project
[18:19] Eleven Vella: Any thoughts on combining the applicants for the ARt award as well?
[18:19] Eleven Vella: MArk Craig has offered to try to get an original piece of space artwork as the prize
[18:19] Eleven Vella: and I would hate to accept it if we don't have enough applicants for the award
[18:20] RolandBolser Voom: as the prize?
[18:20] Eleven Vella: yes as the prize
[18:20] RolandBolser Voom: this competition is supposed to get them interested in space art I thought
[18:20] Eleven Vella: yes
[18:20] RolandBolser Voom: giving that prize narrows the field considerably
[18:21] You: hmmm
[18:21] You: (sorry was afk))
[18:21] You: If we get something donated as a prize
[18:21] You: sure
[18:21] You: right now we're not exactly finding an surplus of donations or applicants
[18:21] You: then again advertising it is a bitch
[18:21] RolandBolser Voom: artists are poor and giving away a work of art for a work of art doesn't seem like the most attractive option in terms of a prize
[18:22] You: we really need funds to send out mailings to all the art colleges
[18:22] Eleven Vella: When were you planning on announcing the winner of the art prize?
[18:22] Eleven Vella: at the conference?
[18:22] You: yup
[18:22] Carissa Lisle is Offline
[18:22] Eleven Vella: then perhaps we should use Mark's donation as part of the award for the Art contest winner
[18:22] Eleven Vella: and not have the SEDS artsit award b/c it is redundant
[18:23] Eleven Vella: we can make it the journalist award instead
[18:23] Eleven Vella: what do you think?
[18:23] You: rewind a second
[18:24] RolandBolser Voom: sounds good to me
[18:24] You: so what are the conditions of the offering?
[18:24] You: "Any thoughts on combining the applicants for the ARt award as well?"
[18:24] Eleven Vella: I don't think there are conditions, he was going to find something to donate for the award
[18:24] You: cool
[18:25] You: yeah we can have that as a grand prize
[18:25] You: and then use lesser donations for a second and third
[18:25] Eleven Vella: making the SEDS artist of the year winner the same as the Art Project winner
[18:25] You: I might just scrap the different categories
[18:25] Eleven Vella: ok
[18:25] You: not enough applicants/prizes right now
[18:26] Eleven Vella: exactly, that is what I was worried about
[18:26] Eleven Vella: do what you think is best
[18:26] You: hopefully future years will attract more
[18:26] Eleven Vella: yeah
[18:26] Eleven Vella: ok good deal
[18:26] You: could you pass on the info for me?
[18:26] You: so I can find out exactly what he would like to offer, etc..
[18:26] You: and get the prize up on the website
[18:26] Eleven Vella: yes for sure
[18:26] You: ty
[18:27] Eleven Vella: I'll let you know when I am sure he is going to donate and what it will be excactly
[18:27] Eleven Vella: Anything else about the art award/project?
[18:27] Eleven Vella: Ok
[18:28] Eleven Vella: The only other update I had is from Brian Zollman
[18:28] Eleven Vella: he said the NOVA will be up by "fireworks time tomorrow"
[18:28] You: which time zone?
[18:28] You: ;-)
[18:28] Eleven Vella: So, if anyone else has an announcement, go right ahead
[18:28] Eleven Vella: ( i think east coast)?
[18:29] You: Word from Brian contacting Shiner for Keg Rocket Competition
[18:29] You: they dont do 'local' events
[18:29] You: but I am going to try and convince them this is National
[18:29] You: not a local shing-dig
[18:29] You: No word yet from Holloman, I am going to also ask White Sands National Park if they will let us do it there
[18:30] You: considering they let Transformers do a whole bunch of shit to their monument for the movie, rockets are small time in comparison
[18:30] You: long as we track em and recover em
[18:30] Eleven Vella: great
[18:30] You: might be a cool opportunity to go quading in the sands ;-)
[18:30] You: thats all from me
[18:30] Eleven Vella: awesome
[18:30] Eleven Vella: thanks josh, anyone else?
[18:31] You: oh if any of you want to work as XPRIZE Ambassadors, working to get people out to the cup from your area, let me know
[18:31] Eleven Vella: Ok, anything else for this meeting?
[18:32] Eleven Vella: Then it is over
[18:32] Eleven Vella: Thanks everyone for coming even though tomorrow is a holiday
[18:32] Eleven Vella: (I get to go to the lab anyway)
[18:32] RolandBolser Voom is Offline

[18:33] danderson Beck: they throw out the couches?
[18:33] danderson Beck: totally off topic...
[18:33] Eleven Vella: in the aero lab? nope
[18:33] danderson Beck: good.
[18:33] Eleven Vella: lol
[18:33] You: oh shit, I forgot to bring up that we need to decide
[18:33] You: what we want to present at the conference on the 19th
[18:33] You: here in second life
[18:33] You: ah well, guess I will send out an e-mail
[18:34] You: and we can have some open debate via the listserv
