[17:52] Gerard Salyut: Sorry bout the Worden poster in the middle of everything, one of the admins put it up so I cant delete it or move it :-(
[17:53] danderson Beck: No worries.
[17:54] BTYoung Yifu: as long as you can see the text, thats whats important
[17:55] Gerard Salyut whistles...
[17:58] Eleven Vella: Well, Ryan is coming, I don't kjnow about anyone else
[17:58] Gerard Salyut: Ryan's the only other definite I know of
[17:58] Ryanblah Qinan is Online
[17:59] danderson Beck: Gerard are you Josh?
[17:59] Gerard Salyut: No, I'm your mother...
[17:59] Ryanblah Qinan: ??
[17:59] danderson Beck: My mum's dead....
[17:59] Gerard Salyut: Yes its me
[17:59] Ryanblah Qinan: that was a great first line to hear
[18:00] danderson Beck: good good
[18:01] Gerard Salyut: Everyone remember you have the tags I gave ya if you want to display your name ;-)
[18:01] Gerard Salyut: I can re-make them if you lost them
[18:01] Eleven Vella: JOsh, do you want to start with your updates
[18:02] Gerard Salyut: Sure
[18:02] Gerard Salyut: First, I talked with the White Sands Missile Range about doing a Keg Rocket Competition
[18:02] Gerard Salyut: took about 20 minutes to convince the lady on the phone that we were not launching ESTES rockets
[18:02] Eleven Vella: haha
[18:03] Gerard Salyut: They've asked for me to write up a formal proposal, I'm also going to be visiting Holloman Air Force Base on Thursday, and will see if I can find a backdoor contact there
[18:03] Gerard Salyut: and Brian was so nice to make this Keg Rocket graphic you can see on the display board behind him
[18:03] BTYoung Yifu: wonderful piece of art
[18:03] Gerard Salyut: Further updates: Art contest webpage and listserv have officially launched
[18:04] Gerard Salyut: so get any artists you know in school to look them over and get on the listserv
[18:04] Gerard Salyut: Could probally use some more of a makeover on the webpage to prettiafy it
[18:04] Gerard Salyut: so if anyone has ideas that way let me or Ryan know
[18:05] Gerard Salyut: ok, last update: Tim Bailey would like to get SEDS involved with hte Space Exploration Alliance
[18:05] Gerard Salyut: basically its a group of all of the non-profit space organizations
[18:05] Gerard Salyut: and once and a while they send out e-mails they would like us to pass on to our members, release press announcements congratulating the Astronauts and NASA for a sucessful launch, etc..
[18:06] Gerard Salyut: It is very low commitment, basically we will just need one person to sign up to get their e-mails once and a while and pass them on to the board when appropiate or to the general lists
[18:06] Gerard Salyut: www.spaceexplorationalliance.org
[18:07] Eleven Vella: I think that is reasonable
[18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah, that sounds good
[18:07] Gerard Salyut: If no one else wants to I'll volunteer to get e-mails. Or would External Affairs like to?
[18:07] danderson Beck: I will sure
[18:08] Ryanblah Qinan: go ahead and send it through the ticket system
[18:08] danderson Beck: and what's the difference between the keg rocket and what we were doing?
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: ok, Keg Rocket competition is something that was proposed at a bar over some alcohol... I think it was Josh Neubert and myself, then passed it on to Brian, or something like that
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: dont remember that night very clearly
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: anyway
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: we're thinking of having a competition at the XPRIZE Cup, same dates, but not officially part of the cup unless they want us
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: to launch kegs
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: competition would be purely altitude
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: we're already had several people express interest in funding us between 500-$1000 dollars for prize money
[18:10] danderson Beck: Interesting
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: not to mention I'm sure Shiner and Heineken would love to sponsor it
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: would need to be a SEDS chapter in good standing
[18:10] danderson Beck: This is true
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: for first competition we'll limit it to solid motors
[18:10] Eleven Vella: now thats an idea - corporate funding
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: :-)
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: heck, individual chapters could get different companies to sponsor them
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: and one possible prize is: a full keg to replace the empty one you just blew up
[18:11] Eleven Vella: haha
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: So we'll see if White Sands will let us launch there
[18:12] Gerard Salyut: no flipping way the FAA would let us do this normally
[18:12] Gerard Salyut: they're paranoid enough about rockets, to say we're going to be launching large metal cylinders in the air.....
[18:12] BTYoung Yifu: id say the other difference between this and other projects is that its silly enough that it could be fun and simple enough for more people to participate
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: yeah
[18:13] Eleven Vella: I like the enthusiasm
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: and simple to fund
[18:13] Eleven Vella: I say run with it and see how far you can go
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: heck, dont even need alot of rocket knowledge. just strap 100 Estes motors onto a keg and see how high it goes :-)
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: yeah we'll see how it goes
[18:14] Gerard Salyut: Anyway. thats all on my end.
[18:14] Gerard Salyut: Sorry for taking up 15 minutes :-)
[18:14] Eleven Vella: No not at all
[18:14] Eleven Vella: definitely worth it if it is a possibility
[18:15] Eleven Vella: Alright, let's try to run through our summer plans
[18:16] Gerard Salyut is Offline
[18:16] Eleven Vella: Just briefly explain what you will be doing and give numbers if possible
[18:16] Eleven Vella: Here, I'll go first
[18:16] Eleven Vella: I want to get around 10 interviews for They Were There assigned over the summer
[18:17] Eleven Vella: and possible get a webpage up about the project (similar to the art project)
[18:17] Eleven Vella: I also plan on looking into creating more SEDS awards - an idea discussed at the last conference
[18:17] Eleven Vella: questions/suggestions?
[18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: any awards specifically you were thinking of
[18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: (I remember the discussion vaguely)
[18:18] Eleven Vella: I was thinking along the lines of "greatest contributing organization" and like "coolest seds supporter"
[18:19] Eleven Vella: (better woring)
[18:19] Eleven Vella: maybe 5-7 awards
[18:19] Eleven Vella: it would help with publicity as well
[18:19] Eleven Vella: i would love other suggestions if you have them
[18:20] Eleven Vella: I'll send out an email when I start thinking about it more
[18:20] Eleven Vella: Anything else for me?
[18:21] Eleven Vella: Ok, who wants to go next?
[18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: I'll volunteer
[18:21] Eleven Vella: Thanks Ryan
[18:21] BTYoung Yifu: jos just called and said his computer exploded.. or something simiilar
[18:21] BTYoung Yifu: so he wont make it
[18:21] BTYoung Yifu: and email him any questions or im later
[18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: ok, so I'd like to do some cleanup on website things for one thing
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: I have a list of stuff (mainly integration with chapters and publicity things) that I have listed on my gantt chart to be done about now
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: on other sides
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: there's always the alumni database that can use some help
[18:23] Ryanblah Qinan: but regarding the alumni adn BoA, I'm always trying to convince you guys and other seds members to use them
[18:23] Ryanblah Qinan: and come up with whays to publicize that
[18:23] Ryanblah Qinan: as they have been very helpful to me, especially with conference stuff, but with some other things as well
[18:23] Ryanblah Qinan: on the conference side, I'll continue to work on publicizing conferences
[18:24] Ryanblah Qinan: right now, am in the processof trying to hype up newspace adn an working with contacts there to try to get some thigns worked otu
[18:24] Ryanblah Qinan: namely tables, maybe covering hotel costs and registration costs
[18:24] Eleven Vella: cool
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: if now is the time, I had a couple fo things I wanted to discuss related to a couple of those
[18:25] Eleven Vella: sure
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: or I can wait till everyone has given updates
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: so 1.)
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: regarding tables at newspace
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: we can get a table at newspace for $50/day
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: so a total of $150 (which is apparently a discount from $650)
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: I'm not sure if we had to pay anything for isdc
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: (josh dealt with getting a table for that)
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: but what are thoughts on that?
[18:26] BTYoung Yifu: related question, do you know what the location is, i cant seem to find it
[18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: dc
[18:27] BTYoung Yifu: oh,i foudn it
[18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: and if you're planning on going (for sure or thinking abou tit), let me know
[18:27] BTYoung Yifu: crystal city, va, technically
[18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: so I can get him a list for potentially covered hotel rooms
[18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: but, thougths on tables?
[18:28] Eleven Vella: the problem with newspace is that everything is so expensive for somereason
[18:28] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah, I really don't understand
[18:28] Eleven Vella: but it may be beneficial
[18:28] Ryanblah Qinan: like what I don't understand is that my contact there is acting like he's breaking his back to give us these discounts
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: but they really aren't that great
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: I've gotten student registration confirmed to be down to $95
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: and hopefully volunteering will get it waived
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: but stll haven't gotten that confirmed
[18:29] danderson Beck: maybe to discourage you for asking for more?
[18:30] Eleven Vella: I talked to some of the college students at ISDC and they werent going soley because of the price
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: exactly
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: the thing is, he claims to realy want to do whatever it takes to get seds students there
[18:30] Eleven Vella: Also, are enough of us going where it would be worth it? Like would someone be able to be at the booth from time to time?
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: he specifically mentioned seds leaders, so if we can get this clunteer thng, it would be great if as many of exec who aren't tied up in internships cna go
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: that's also true
[18:31] Eleven Vella: ok
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: I know josh will be there
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: and someone from colorado will be there
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: brian or liz, do you plan on going?
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: darrell is thinking abou it
[18:31] Eleven Vella: I can't due to work
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: anybody else thinking about going
[18:32] danderson Beck: where is it? DC?
[18:32] BTYoung Yifu: maybe, im in the area, but i have work
[18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: around dc, yes
[18:32] BTYoung Yifu: trying to see how bad the drive is right now
[18:32] danderson Beck: I probably can't
[18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: between work and cost, have been having trouble convincing people (and I myself can't even go)
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: well, I'm going to be making calls to people in the area
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: so maybe I can find some more people willing to go
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: but until then, hold off on a table
[18:33] Eleven Vella: that sounds like a good idea
[18:33] BTYoung Yifu: looks like a good two hour drive for me in rush hour... at lesat
[18:34] BTYoung Yifu: and registration costs+missing work+that means..... maybe saturday?
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: ok, well keep me posted
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: brian, I'll put you down as a maybe for sat
[18:36] Ryanblah Qinan: danderson, are you a maybe or a no
[18:36] danderson Beck: This is off topic, but my internet is starting to act up: My plans for the summer include working on the SEDS USA blog which I;ve been neglecting. A definite no
[18:36] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:36] Ryanblah Qinan: sorry for taking up so much time tonight
[18:37] Eleven Vella: nope its worth it
[18:37] Ryanblah Qinan: second thing was resurrecting the seds-menmbers@seds.org list
[18:37] Ryanblah Qinan: as a list for members that are of chapters paying dues, etc and active and such
[18:38] Ryanblah Qinan: basically for things like internship opportunities and htings we want to keep open to active seds members and not the general community of seds-announce
[18:38] Ryanblah Qinan: (was somehing kirk, josh, and I have been talking about)
[18:38] Eleven Vella: cool
[18:38] Ryanblah Qinan: in regard to the virgin thing that kirk, josh had
[18:38] Ryanblah Qinan: as an example of something that would go out over it instead of seds-announce
[18:38] Ryanblah Qinan: so thoughts on that?
[18:39] Ryanblah Qinan: we are restricting the audience for some of these things has plusses and minuses
[18:39] BTYoung Yifu: sounds pretty good to me
[18:39] Ryanblah Qinan: but I think the 3 of us were each leaning toward it
[18:39] Ryanblah Qinan: so wanted to run it past the board
[18:39] Eleven Vella: I say yes
[18:40] BTYoung Yifu: i think if you could give it more internship/student oriented things too, i feel like seds-announce can have a low Signal to noise
[18:40] Ryanblah Qinan: ok, sounds good
[18:40] Ryanblah Qinan: if nothing else relating to those two opics or other ?s for me, I am finally done
[18:41] Eleven Vella: OK
[18:41] Eleven Vella: who is next?
[18:41] BTYoung Yifu: i'll go next
[18:41] Eleven Vella: awesome
[18:41] BTYoung Yifu: firrst, i plan to update the wiki, ive been neglecting it lately
[18:42] BTYoung Yifu: the econd thing ive been considering is working with ISDC to sponsor something like a half day kids track
[18:43] BTYoung Yifu: i mentioned it to George, and he seemed interested, and now im on the ISDC planning comitee mailing list
[18:43] BTYoung Yifu: so i'm planning on tracking this and seeing if it can be anywhere
[18:44] BTYoung Yifu: now, since im starting grad school in the fall, im not sure what my time constraints are going to be, so if ic an find a couple of other people who are interested in helping too, that would be a big help
[18:44] BTYoung Yifu: i think ben corbin might be interested, but if you know of anyone else let me know
[18:45] danderson Beck: I could help out
[18:45] BTYoung Yifu: and... on the isdc thing, we're having a telecon tomorrow, and if theres anything that you guys thought would be good to recommend, i can bring it up
[18:45] BTYoung Yifu: i personally plan to encourage them to help us set up speaker sessions again
[18:46] BTYoung Yifu: so, if you have any thouhgts on that, let me know by im or email
[18:47] Eleven Vella: Volunteers...
[18:47] You: i'll go
[18:47] Eleven Vella: OK
[18:48] You: i am just going to keep posting the transcripts and sending e-mails to people who don't attend
[18:48] You: that's basically it
[18:48] Eleven Vella: Ok short and sweet
[18:49] Eleven Vella: oh and has anyone heard anything about the June Nova?
[18:49] Eleven Vella: I'll have to contact those guys
[18:50] Eleven Vella: pos Oh, who are you again, sorry...
[18:50] pos Oh: this is Damion
[18:50] Eleven Vella: Oh ok, sorry, I know you havent been able to come to the recnt meetings, thats why I forgot
[18:50] pos Oh: basically my plans are to try to keep up with the CoC's. I've fallen behind for the past few weeks because of my co-op
[18:51] Ryanblah Qinan: when will the next one be
[18:51] pos Oh: this Thursday. I will send a reminder out tomorrow
[18:51] pos Oh: Not sure how constant they will be because my schedule tends to change depending on where we're at with things
[18:51] pos Oh: but this week is for sure
[18:52] Eleven Vella: Ok great
[18:52] Eleven Vella: and one other thing for the CoC's
[18:52] Eleven Vella: (Kirk brought up a good point in his email)
[18:53] pos Oh: I remember seeing something about that
[18:53] Eleven Vella: if you can, start a discussion and encourage the chapters to begin planning for the fall semester in advance
[18:53] pos Oh: ok...not a problem
[18:53] Eleven Vella: I had one of those last year as Chapter Affairs and it was the most well attended meeting in the summer
[18:53] Flight Band: All Go
[18:53] Eleven Vella: Ok
[18:53] pos Oh: I'll wait until a little closer to semesters beginning
[18:54] Eleven Vella: other updates from anyone?
[18:54] Eleven Vella: Jake do you have any summer plans for SEDS you'd like to tell us?
[18:54] RolandBolser Voom: I'm in the process of updating the SEDS sign up sheet thingy
[18:54] RolandBolser Voom: chapter creation form
[18:55] RolandBolser Voom: also I'm trying to start emailing the people on that list ryan sent me
[18:55] RolandBolser Voom: SoAnd I will try to recurit at New Space and similar events
[18:55] RolandBolser Voom: fin
[18:56] Ryanblah Qinan: awesome
