[20:06] Brian Zollman: I won't be here next week due to spring break

[20:09] Ryan McLinko: so most of you have sent in monthly reports
[20:10] Ryan McLinko: but regardless, lets just go through with updates
[20:10] Ryan McLinko: so we can just go down the list, starting with Brian
[20:10] Ryan McLinko: and feel free to chime in if you have questions/suggestions while people are giving reports
[20:10] Ryan McLinko: so Brian, floor is yours

[20:12] Brian Zollman: I completed and sent out the March Nova and plan on having the April nova ready at the beginning of the next month. If you need a press release done, just let me know and I'll have one ready within a few days.

[20:13] Brian Zollman: Usually I do. Especailly SEDS related ones.

[20:15] Brian Zollman: I've been trying to work wtih Arka, but he only does stuff when prodded
[20:15] Ryan McLinko: if you give him article assignments, does he come through
[20:16] Brian Zollman: Yes, but he doesn't show much initiative and find them on his own unless asked
[20:16] Ryan McLinko: ok, I will have a word with him
[20:16] Brian Zollman: Great guy though and a pleasure to work with, just passive

[20:18] Daniel Anderson: 1) Began compile list of potential fund sources. Damion did you get the list from the local chapters, and their contact info? It's ok if you didn't

[20:18] Daniel Anderson: 2) spread the word about what we are doing in our own seds blog and in the seds Earth one. Anyone read it? oh.....
[20:19] Ryan McLinko: which seds blog is this (I'm assuming one on blogs.seds.org)
[20:19] Daniel Anderson: yes
[20:20] Daniel Anderson: Anyone know somebody in an organization that might give us money?
[20:21] Ryan McLinko: do you have a packet or something for this
[20:21] Ryan McLinko: like once you finish this list of potential fund sources
[20:21] Ryan McLinko: what is the next plan of action
[20:22] Daniel Anderson: To tell them what we do? Not yet.

[20:22] Ryan McLinko: generally comapnies respond best if they are sent a packet and then followed up with a phone call
[20:22] Ryan McLinko: (at least in my experience)

[20:24] littleC3788: i, of course, posted the transcripts/attendance on the website. i love the new way that Kirk organized it. it makes everything much easier, at least for me.

[20:27] littleC3788: i also made a info sheet on rockets and a fun page for illinois space day since i want to get more involved with ed out stuff

[20:34] Rohan Ramadas: okay, right now i'm working on creating an index of professionals who would be willing to speak at bay area high school astronomy/SEDS clubs
[20:34] Rohan Ramadas: ive emailed a few schools right now to form new space related clubs but the response has been lukewarm
[20:35] Rohan Ramadas: so i am thinking that if i were to send this list of ready speakers along with what i normally send, response would be better
[20:35] Ryan McLinko: at the schools, whom have you been contactin
[20:35] Rohan Ramadas: right now the list has about 7 speakers, and im testing them out at my own high school
[20:36] Rohan Ramadas: i generally contact the person in the 'Associated Student body' representing all clubs
[20:36] Ryan McLinko: it might also help to contact science teachers
[20:36] Rohan Ramadas: this person would then forward that to students who he/she thinks is interested in space
[20:36] Rohan Ramadas: that's a good idea, i havent done that yet
[20:36] Ryan McLinko: sometimes you get lucky and get an enthusuastic one
[20:36] Rohan Ramadas: hmm, ill try it
[20:36] Rohan Ramadas: thanks
[20:36] Ryan McLinko: so what kinds of speakers have you been rallying up
[20:37] Rohan Ramadas: so far, ive got two from the ibm almaden research center here near san jose, CA
[20:37] Rohan Ramadas: two from local planetariums
[20:37] Rohan Ramadas: one from AMD, talking about how AMD devices are applicable to space industry
[20:38] Rohan Ramadas: and a former professor of astronomy from UIllinois who stays in the area
[20:38] Rohan Ramadas: lives*
[20:38] Rohan Ramadas: right now, it's focused regionally 
[20:38] Ryan McLinko: well, sounds good
[20:38] Rohan Ramadas: do you have any suggestions as to what kind of industries i could contact?
[20:39] Rohan Ramadas: b/c i think it's better to have speakers from a variety of backgrounds talking about how their line of work is related to space
[20:39] Ryan McLinko: are there any space based companies that have branches in the area
[20:39] Rohan Ramadas: that really helps in interesting a larger demographic
[20:39] Rohan Ramadas: well, NASA Ames is nearby
[20:40] Ryan McLinko: that would be good
[20:40] Ryan McLinko: and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some branches around
[20:40] Ryan McLinko: for other companies
[20:40] Ryan McLinko: I know a lot of larger companies like Boeing have space centers in CA
[20:41] Ryan McLinko: (though not sure where in CA)

[20:42] Rohan Ramadas: okay what i was saying was that NASA has a complicated procedure for speakers
[20:42] Rohan Ramadas: oh, and AMD speaker came in two weeks ago
[20:42] Ryan McLinko: cool
[20:43] Rohan Ramadas: but yeah, I want speakers who can come in on relatively short notice
[20:43] Rohan Ramadas: Ames requires 3 months advance notice actually
[20:43] Rohan Ramadas: thats it for me.
[20:43] Ryan McLinko: ok questions for rohan?
[20:44] Ryan McLinko: well, as for me, I've been working mostly with the Board of Advisors and trying to rally up some interest for various conferences (with mass emails and emails to indicidual chapters)
[20:45] Ryan McLinko: and I'm starting to work on some navigational issues on the website
[20:46] Ryan McLinko: so if you've been having any issues with navigating the side (no matter how minor), go ahead an let me know
[20:46] Ryan McLinko: and, as always, you guys know who our Board of Advisors is
[20:46] Ryan McLinko: if you think that there's any way that any of them can help you in your tasks
[20:46] Ryan McLinko: then let me know
[20:47] Ryan McLinko: or if you need some help, but don't have someone in mind
[20:47] Ryan McLinko: I can try to find someone on the Board of Advisors or Alumni to help you

[20:48] Brian Zollman: Have we heard anymore about the nonprofit status yet?
[20:48] Ryan McLinko: I think John is still waiting to hear
[20:48] Ryan McLinko: (or at least that's the last I heard)

[20:48] Brian Zollman: Thanks. I know our chapter is going to do a letter writing campaing for funding as soon as the nonprofit goes through
[20:49] Ryan McLinko: you might also be able to get 401c3 status via your university
[20:49] Ryan McLinko: I've been grabbing it from MIT for conference stuff
[20:50] Ryan McLinko: and by that I mean 501c3
[20:50] Brian Zollman: I know our chapter doesn't fall under our university's
[20:50] Ryan McLinko: oh ok
[20:51] Ryan McLinko: ok, I will open it up to any other questions/comments on anything?
