[18:00] BTYoung Yifu: i'd like to se esomeone else try somethjign new though
[18:01] You: Ok, I was just curious
[18:01] You: I know we have one new guy from Illinois who is interested

[18:01] BTYoung Yifu: i have one guy here im trying to get in to
[18:01] Gerard Salyut is Online
[18:01] Flight Band: All Go
[18:02] You: which positions do not have any nominees yet?
[18:02] Ryanblah Qinan: a lot
[18:02] Gerard Salyut: (my platforms will be submitted in a few hours
[18:02] Ryanblah Qinan: most prominaently
[18:02] Gerard Salyut: (just formatting them and changing wording)
[18:02] Ryanblah Qinan: chapter affairs
[18:02] Ryanblah Qinan: expansion
[18:03] You: ok
[18:03] Ryanblah Qinan: finance
[18:03] You: oooh that is important
[18:03] Ryanblah Qinan: if no one gets on that, I've vowed to see 501c3 through
[18:03] Gerard Salyut is Offline
[18:03] BTYoung Yifu: that sounds like a good one to specifically recuit if no one comes forward
[18:04] Ryanblah Qinan: since it is kinda necessary for my projects
[18:04] Ryanblah Qinan: namely endowment
[18:04] You: yeah
[18:04] Ryanblah Qinan: but other than dealing with 501c3, I have no intention of running for finance
[18:04] Gerard Salyut is Online
[18:04] Flight Band: All Go
[18:04] Gerard Salyut: ((lets try that one more time))
[18:04] Gerard Salyut: ((without the SL crash...)
[18:05] Ryanblah Qinan: josh are you running for anything besides projects
[18:05] BTYoung Yifu: i know one guy who might be good for that, ill talk to him and we can talk about it over the weekend
[18:05] Gerard Salyut: Projects and Chair
[18:05] Ryanblah Qinan: k
[18:05] You: Is Jake running for anyting?
[18:05] Ryanblah Qinan: always food to have competition for chair
[18:05] Gerard Salyut: lol
[18:05] Ryanblah Qinan: chair and external affiars
[18:05] You: ok
[18:05] Ryanblah Qinan: interestingly enough, the two contested positions
[18:06] Ryanblah Qinan: well, webmaster is too technically
[18:06] Ryanblah Qinan: but as long as he seems competent
[18:06] Ryanblah Qinan: I will step down from webmaster
[18:06] Gerard Salyut: oh, btw.... just found out like an hour ago.... I GOT FUNDED! I'm definetly going :-)
[18:06] You: great
[18:06] You: So how is everything looking for the conference?
[18:06] Ryanblah Qinan: is going
[18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: we'll be ready
[18:07] You: awesome
[18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: mostly dealing with logistics and roundng up more minions
[18:07] Gerard Salyut: lol
[18:07] Gerard Salyut: never can have enough minions
[18:07] You: Question: if I bring the things for the awards, is there somewhere we can set up a booth where ppl can drop off nominations?
[18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: rgr that
[18:08] Ryanblah Qinan: best place would probably be near the reg table
[18:08] Ryanblah Qinan: in Lobby 10
[18:08] You: ok
[18:08] Gerard Salyut: near the infinite hallway?
[18:08] Ryanblah Qinan: yes
[18:08] Ryanblah Qinan: I intend to have 2 people stationed there at all times
[18:08] Gerard Salyut: good
[18:08] You: ok
[18:08] Gerard Salyut: (Josh Neuberts directions to me in 05: Look for the building with the pillars)
[18:09] Ryanblah Qinan: ok, I guess that works
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: (My reply: WHICH building with the pillars???? )
[18:09] Ryanblah Qinan: I'm going to attempt to arrange plenty of guides for the weekend
[18:09] Ryanblah Qinan: to shuttle people to/from where they need to go
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: cool beans
[18:09] Ryanblah Qinan: and we'll spam signs all over the place thursday
[18:09] Gerard Salyut: might also want to email out a campus map to all conference participants
[18:09] Ryanblah Qinan: /friday
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah, there will be a map in the packet
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: and a separate one in the reg bag
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: I meant before they get there
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: to help them find their way to registration
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: we linked to http://whereis.mit.edu
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: in the reg email
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: cool
[18:10] Gerard Salyut: just checking :-)
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: which should give you the general idea
[18:10] Gerard Salyut retreats back to his corner
[18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: I guess we'll need to send out another reg email
[18:11] Ryanblah Qinan: since we seem to have gotten a number of non-MIT'ers in the past week
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: sweet
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: yeah I convinced two friends from BU to go :-)
[18:11] BTYoung Yifu: whats the total number?
[18:11] Ryanblah Qinan: total student regs is now 185
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: nice
[18:11] Gerard Salyut: how many MIT?
[18:11] Ryanblah Qinan: which doesn't include career fair regs
[18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: or conf planners
[18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: and not too many of those are mit actually
[18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: I expect a decent number of mit's to reg on the spot
[18:12] You: cool
[18:12] You: back to the subject of elections
[18:13] You: it would be smart to go through the procedure
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: yeah
[18:13] Gerard Salyut: to avoid confusion like in past years
[18:13] You: I will not be at elections on Monday
[18:13] Ryanblah Qinan: you mean how we changed it last year?
[18:13] Ryanblah Qinan: [tear]
[18:14] You: what exactly was the new change for last year?
[18:14] Ryanblah Qinan: wasn't it something to do with runoff elections
[18:14] Ryanblah Qinan: ie how you would run for something else if you didn't win your first choice
[18:14] You: oh ok cascading
[18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: but you had to be sure to submit platforms for all in advance
[18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: (for your backups if any)
[18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah, that's the word
[18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: cascade, runoff: same difference
[18:15] You: right, so you can't cascade unless you submit for that position ahead of time
[18:15] Gerard Salyut: positions being announced starting with chair and going downward, correct?
[18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: yes
[18:16] Ryanblah Qinan: we'll just follow the order on pltforms.php
[18:16] You: good
[18:16] You: and those positions (if any) that are open after the election can be chosen by the new board
[18:16] Ryanblah Qinan: right
[18:16] You: that is what we did with Chap Affairs last year
[18:16] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah
[18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: but preferably try to find people before elections at the conference
[18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: if we still have open positions come friday
[18:17] You: right
[18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: and we can get them to submit platforms before mon morning
[18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: oh...absentee ballots
[18:18] Gerard Salyut: is every chapter that has paid dues attending?
[18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: I haven't seen anyone from psu
[18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: register
[18:18] Gerard Salyut: They're the only ones we need to worry about then. Send them a list of the names/platforms on Friday and have them get us their vote before Monday?
[18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:19] Gerard Salyut: be sure to call them up
[18:19] Gerard Salyut: and check that they're not coming
[18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: I also need to check up on them to make sure they aren't coming
[18:19] You: any other general issue you guys think we will run into for elections?
[18:19] You: *issues
[18:20] Gerard Salyut: Procedure for Conference site in 08
[18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: so, I still haven't gotten any platforms
[18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: brian, what's the status on yours?
[18:20] BTYoung Yifu: ours should be in tomorrow
[18:20] Gerard Salyut: UofA will be getting it to you tonight / tommorow
[18:20] BTYoung Yifu: waiting on our advisor to approve it
[18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:21] Gerard Salyut: just putting the final details in, since the deadline got extended
[18:21] BTYoung Yifu: also, we may have a voting issue, if we get it, we'd like to vote on a date for it
[18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:21] BTYoung Yifu: because the normal weekend is a football game
[18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: so I guess we deal with this right after board elections?
[18:21] Gerard Salyut: There's the problem
[18:22] Gerard Salyut: these things are going to take more than an hour
[18:22] Gerard Salyut: how much time do we have devoted?
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: how are these usually done
[18:22] Gerard Salyut: in the past, they've given 1 hour for everything
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: like before last year where it wasn't
[18:22] Gerard Salyut: and we've gone majorly over
[18:22] Ryanblah Qinan: [looking at schedule]
[18:22] Gerard Salyut: or people have complained that they werent ready, and voting was done not at the conference
[18:23] Gerard Salyut: which is very sketchy, and I would like us to avoid that at all possible
[18:23] You: Well you need to do the board positions first
[18:23] You: then the conference location
[18:23] You: all that must be done at the conference
[18:23] You: if you need to work out the details, i.e., moving the weekend of the conference, that is up to the planners
[18:24] You: In the past, we had the conference in the spring
[18:24] You: but keeping itin the fall is ideal
[18:24] Gerard Salyut: umm
[18:24] You: moving it around a few weekends shouldnt be a huge issue
[18:24] Gerard Salyut: the conference has always been in November
[18:24] Ryanblah Qinan: so I guess one thing is
[18:24] Gerard Salyut: for this generation of SEDS
[18:25] Gerard Salyut: hasnt been in the spring in like... 10 years
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: we probably don't need a finance workshop
[18:25] BTYoung Yifu: thats why id like to have some discussion of it there so we can get different schools feelings on it
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: and outreach and expansion cnan be combined
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: so we can make another slot open for conference stuff
[18:25] You: ok
[18:25] Ryanblah Qinan: so we can have 900-1000 elections
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: 1000-1100 conference
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: 1100-1200 coc
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: 1200-1300 lunch
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: then two sets of workshops after
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: nat projects/extenal affairs
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: and website/outreach
[18:26] Gerard Salyut: My plane leaves at 4 PM
[18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: josh, have you found out who this person is who's running for website
[18:26] Gerard Salyut: no
[18:27] Gerard Salyut: have been otherwise occupied
[18:27] Gerard Salyut: they the one who didnt put a name on it?
[18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: yes
[18:27] Gerard Salyut: So Breakfast
[18:28] Gerard Salyut: then Elections,
[18:28] Gerard Salyut: then Conference site
[18:28] Gerard Salyut: that gets us to 11:00
[18:28] You: 2 hours should be enough for that, right?
[18:28] Gerard Salyut: yeah
[18:29] Gerard Salyut: Could we move Chapter Affairs to replace finance?
[18:29] Gerard Salyut: since I'm not sure how long Projects will take
[18:29] Gerard Salyut: and I need to catch a 4 PM plane
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: I've nixed finance and expansion
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: (well put expansion with outreach
[18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: chapter affairs is coc
[18:29] Gerard Salyut: ok
[18:29] Gerard Salyut: so then we're good
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: if projs ends at 1400
[18:30] Gerard Salyut: unless there are other CoC items that need to be addressed?
[18:30] Gerard Salyut: outside of Elections and Conference site?
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: then you have 2 hours
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: are there?
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: I don't really remember what we did last year at coc
[18:30] Gerard Salyut: not much
[18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: so we could just leave it intact then
[18:30] Gerard Salyut: we havent made any revisions to constitution
[18:30] Gerard Salyut: yeah
[18:31] You: it was asking memebrs what they wanted from seds
[18:31] Gerard Salyut: I'd say leave it intact
[18:31] You: yeah
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: and just transform chapter affairs to conference choosing
[18:31] Gerard Salyut: That sounds good.
[18:31] You: Good
[18:31] Ryanblah Qinan: (glad I've been putitng off printing stuff)
[18:32] Gerard Salyut: and any leftover time we can use to discuss the direction of SEDS, etc..
[18:32] You: Anything else about elections or the conference?
[18:32] Gerard Salyut: I'm going to try and get an FAA rep to attend the National Projects meeting
[18:32] Gerard Salyut: not sure if it will work
[18:32] Gerard Salyut: if she cant show up on Monday, I'll probably just have a working lunch with her on Saturday or Sunday
[18:32] You: Has Jake decided on a venue for the social?
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: well, you can talk to them at the career fair
[18:33] Gerard Salyut: Be warned, Jeff is promising he's dragging SEDS to the cheapest strip club in Boston if the after party sucks ;-)
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: or I can give you their emails
[18:33] Gerard Salyut: ;-)
[18:33] You: haha
[18:33] Gerard Salyut: Ryan, I'm talking about specific FAA people I'm already in conversation with
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: if you want to contact the faa people now and see if one could stay
[18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: ok
[18:34] Gerard Salyut: been talking to them for a while about this
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: anyway, looks like there will be two party-things
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: some thing at an on-campus frat on friday
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: and another one on sat
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: that is supposed to be comfortable for speakers to attend
[18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: ie like the one at isdc
[18:34] You: good
[18:34] Gerard Salyut: :-)
[18:34] You: great
[18:35] Gerard Salyut: so we're dropping $300 on booze? ;-)
[18:35] Ryanblah Qinan: (other than that, I know nothing more about the parties)
[18:35] Ryanblah Qinan: I gave them $1.5k for the party stuff
[18:35] You: ok
[18:35] Gerard Salyut: *whistle*
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: nice
[18:36] Ryanblah Qinan: meh...was enough to get them off my backs about it
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: well the ISDC one only cost $300
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: so we'll see if we get what we pay for ;-)
[18:36] BTYoung Yifu: i thought it was $500
[18:36] BTYoung Yifu: and im guessing they already ha d the room for that
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: HA
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: no
[18:36] Gerard Salyut: but we can talk about that later
[18:37] Gerard Salyut: ;-)
[18:37] You: Ok, other issues about the conference or next weekend?
[18:37] Gerard Salyut: nope I'm good
[18:37] Ryanblah Qinan: none here
[18:38] You: Alright, the other thing I had was about the fact that less and less chapters have been paying their dues
[18:38] BTYoung Yifu: nothing from me
[18:38] You: Those that have been paying are the ones who we always see at everything
[18:38] You: conferences etc.
[18:38] Gerard Salyut: In some cases I think it is because the chapters arent informed
[18:39] You: Well, yeah
[18:39] Gerard Salyut: UWash, SEDS ERAU Prescott, exist
[18:39] You: We need to somehow get back in contact with those chapters
[18:39] Gerard Salyut: probably be the first thing on the plate for the new board
[18:40] You: Yeah, we really need to keep our Dir of Chapter Affairs and Finanace going all year next year
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: yup
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: my major selling piece on my platform will be exactly that
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: if you're not doing your job in Exec
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: and showing progress,
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: you'll probably find yourself out of a job
[18:40] Gerard Salyut: ;-)
[18:41] danderson Beck: good thing i'm not continuing then
[18:41] Gerard Salyut: I'll stop campaigning during the meeting ;-)
[18:42] You: Just something we need to keep in mind
[18:42] Gerard Salyut: yup
[18:42] You: not much can be done in a week, esp since so many emails have been going out to seds-chapters
[18:42] You: if they choose not to reply, it can't be because of our lack of effort
[18:43] You: moving on, any other concerns, issues for tonight?
[18:44] You: Ok if not then this meeting is over
[18:44] Gerard Salyut: Thank you all for serving on the Executive Board this year!
[18:44] You: I'll email the transcript to Carissa
[18:44] You: Good luck in the future, those that are staying on
[18:44] BTYoung Yifu: goodnight, and see you all this weekend
[18:44] You: I'm looking forward to seeing you all at MIT!
[18:44] Gerard Salyut: See you all in Boston!
[18:44] Gerard Salyut: And thanks again to Ryan for hosting!
[18:45] You: yes
[18:45] Gerard Salyut: Woot!
