this didn't work)
Kelly Mann> whats the difference?
Josh> Cool, Ryan any clue where D-Man is?
Josh> he was online then just logged a few minutes ago
mclinkor> dunno, he was online just a little bit ago
mclinkor> I asked him to try crating a chat room
mclinkor> and he logged off
mclinkor> oh, right, he has play practice or something
mclinkor> said he told you
Josh> he did?
mclinkor> heh
mclinkor> this is even better
mclinkor> he said he was going to be online
Josh> lol
Josh> yeah
Josh> he said he would be 'a little distant, but
present'
mclinkor> so I was planning on constantly directing
the conversation to him
mclinkor> knowing that he wouldn't respond
mclinkor> but oh well, plan failed
<>
<>
<>
Josh> Having chat trouble

Josh> how could I forget Finance?
Josh> Brian, any clue on Ryan?
Brian Young> he had a meeting on campus
, although he should be done with it soonBrian Young>

him tomorrow
Josh> he's coming
Josh> just IMed him
Josh> (Ryan Goodnight that is)
Josh> Damn it, did we plan this? 2 Ryans, 2 Josh's, 2

Darrell_COC> lol
Darrell_COC> I know

Darrell_COC> anyways..I chose this name in a hurry
Darrell_COC> who are we waiting for
<>
<>
Josh> Just Ryan Goodnight
mclinkor> Darrell_COC is definitely easier to type

Josh> he's having some issues with his browser and
java apps
Josh> he'll be in in a minute
mclinkor> heh
<>
<>
<>
*private to Emma lee*> Welcome Ryan
mclinkor> is this Ryan Goodnight?
Josh> Welcome Ryan
Josh> yup
AeroAggie84> Howdy Ya'll
Kelly Mann> hi Ryan
Jake> Hiya
Josh> Ok, thats basically everyone.
Josh> Sosa and Walker cannot make it tonight
Jake> who is emma lee? sorry to single you out
Josh> I believe that is Emily Hardegree
Jake> !!!!!!!!!
Josh> Alright
Josh> Welcome SEDS 2008 :-)
<>
Josh> I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving?
Kelly Mann> yeah, it was good :)
Jake> stuck in ithaca with no food
Kelly Mann> ha, not so good
Josh> Well I'm glad you could make it to the first
meeting regardless
Josh> First on my list for tonight, how many of you
have been in touch with your predecessor (if one
exists) for you position?
Josh>
Kelly Mann> i havent had any contact with mine
Jake> I am not sure that dan anderson is still alive,
much less been in touch wtih him
Kelly Mann> I tried emailing him a while ago, but i
didnt get any response
Kelly Mann>
Kelly Mann> my perdecessor, not dan ; )
Josh> I wouldnt expect one from either of those two
unfortunetly
Josh> neither of them were very active
AeroAggie84> I have been in touch with John
AeroAggie84> And we worked on getting my name on the
checking card...should be complete by now....I will
have to check
Josh> While we're at it, whats the current status with
the finances?
mclinkor> fyi other ryan: if you need someone to bug
the ma people, I have done so in the past for john
AeroAggie84> Ok sounds good...as for the current
status...John said that he will call me in the next
few days to give me all of the current documentation,
but that was a few days ago that he said that and
still nothing...so I will have to get back with him
Josh> Ok
Josh> do you have his phone number?
Josh> its: 217-721-2817
Josh> at least thats the one I have on file
mclinkor> I believe I've used htat one in the past
Josh> Next on my list, the Google Doc contact list
Josh> How do you guys like using google documents like
that contact list?
mclinkor> google docs=good
Kelly Mann> i like it
Josh> Any other opinions? Were you all able to access
it easily?
Brian Young> works for me, in the past, i just read
the xls through google docs anyway
haoqi> yes
Kelly Mann> have it open right now :)
Josh> Cool, in that case I'd like us to start using
Google Docs for alot of our SEDS items, especially
ones we want collaboration or help from other Exec
Board members
Josh> easier than having a dozen versions of a
document flying around
Josh> Also please make sure your contact info is
complete and up to date
Kelly Mann>
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pE7StdesBgaHfal0KSN9YcQ&inv=kelmann@ne.rr.com
Jake> and if compuiters crash you don't lose your
stuff
Josh> aye
Kelly Mann> that might work, but its using my e mail
Kelly Mann> so you might have to work around that
Kelly Mann> give me a sec and ill have a better link
Josh> Next on the list, we mentioned at the conference
that we wanted to get at least one exec board member
to every big conference coming up. Ryan, have you been
able to assemble a list of the next few upcoming
conferences?
mclinkor> I have not, but it's at the top of my list
Josh> Good
<>
<>
mclinkor> should be relatively easy to get the list up
mclinkor> ie convert what I had before to next year's
dates
Brian Young> on that, we should probably make a habit
of making a trip report for those
mclinkor> /locations
Josh> Once you do, lets get it up on a google calander
mclinkor> yeah, I started doing that last year
mclinkor> and if any of you guys owe me one from XPC
btw
mclinkor> get it to me
Brian Young> i started on one for AAS, but schools
gotten in the way, but ill get it up on Google Docs by
this week
Josh> and people can sign up for making an appearance
at specific conferences
mclinkor> (per the email I sent out earler today)
mclinkor> yeah, I'll basically take a version of the
spreadsheet I've been using the past year
mclinkor> and put it online
<>
mclinkor> either a google-doc
Josh> sounds good
<>
mclinkor> or a pretty-looking thing with submissions,
etc
*private to haoqi*> yes?
<>
haoqi> what's going on?
haoqi> me neither
Josh> Whats with all the paging people?
*private from mclinkor*> never mind, actually I do
haoqi> I'm sorry. I'll stop.
Kelly Mann> k not just me :)
Josh> lol
haoqi> I don't know how to use chat rooms ><
mclinkor> sorry guys
Goodnight> is this kinda like poking on facebook?
Josh> Aye
mclinkor> I just learned how to talk to specific
people
Josh> the messed up Java version of poking ;-)
mclinkor> and what page user meant
Josh> ;-)
Josh> Ok, moving along....
Jake> is that the crazy monkey sound?
mclinkor> dunno, I'm muted
mclinkor> anyway, carry on
Josh> Theres been alot of talk in SEDS-Earth about
changing www.seds.org into an international website
portal
Josh> linking to all of the SEDS chapters in the world
mclinkor> yeah
mclinkor> and trying to homogenize
Josh> I've been thinking about challenging SEDS Earth,
proposing that if they can turn SEDS Earth into a
legitimate formal organization, and get a goal number
of country websites up
Josh> I'd let them use the main domain
mclinkor> well, seds.org is due for an overhaul
anyway, so I think at least a homogenization to an
extent is a good idea
mclinkor> (I've talked to josh2 about this much)
Josh> what are the rest of your opinions
Jake> we have enough trouble right now with a country
where we have representatives
haoqi> which one
Jake> lets spend this year focusing on seriously
revamping our quality
Jake> at home
Brian Young> it does seem questionable to give them
the domain when seds-earth seems to be... lacking
Josh> hence why I'm thinking of proposing some sort of
goal they have to reach
mclinkor> it may be at least worth talking to jensen
of seds-ca to discuss making sites look better
mclinkor> but agreed as to sharing the domain with
them to the extent that they are thinking
Brian Young> i thought with canada we were talking
about just merging
mclinkor> no
Josh> havent formalized anything with them yet
mclinkor> but canada is doing a website overhaul as
well
Brian Young> of course not
Josh> but we were thinking of merging into SEDS North
America
Goodnight> sounds good...that would allow me to get
into the groove of things...im still kinda lost...but
catching up
mclinkor> and have been talking to us about it
Josh> so they are basically treated as a SEDS-USA
chapter
Goodnight> my comment was in reference to the
question...of our opinions earlier
Brian Young> or treating individual schools as
chapters
Brian Young> although are there any schools besides
carleton?
Josh> I think they have 2 schools
Josh> but most SEDS Earth chapters are just 1 school
Josh> with the exception of SEDS USA, SEDS UK, SEDS
India
Josh> Alright, we'll keep an eye on it and open
further discussion if it comes up
Josh> it is our server and domain
Josh> and I want to see alot more out of them before
we turn over the domain to them
Josh> when and if
mclinkor> and more done to earth.seds.org
mclinkor> before they gain any access to seds.org
mclinkor> (earth.seds.org is kinda lacking right now)
Josh> yeah
haoqi> who are running it?
Josh> Kirk, Pradeep, and a few others
Josh> SEDS Earth isnt a legitimate organization
currently
Josh> its just a few students and alumni trying to
encourage different countries of SEDS to interact
mclinkor> you can get a better idea of their status on
forums.seds.org
mclinkor> under seds-earth
Josh> yeah
Brian Young> kirk...
Brian Young> oh well
Josh> I was going to ask everyone to go through their
plans for the semester
Josh> but I dont see any reason to keep us all here
just to read through those
Josh> instead I like Ryan's suggestion of having us
each draw up a Gannt chart
Josh> Are you guys familiar with those?
Kelly Mann> no
Josh> Ryan, could you describe them?
Josh> (I've got to go afk a sec)
Goodnight> nope
haoqi> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gantt_chart
mclinkor> lemme send out mine to sedsexec
mclinkor> [will help explain]
mclinkor> [sent]
mclinkor> (this is mine from last year)
mclinkor> so, the basic idea is to:
Kelly Mann> k
mclinkor> 1.) list all tasks over the next year
mclinkor> 2.) show in what order tasks must be
completed
mclinkor> so you will notice that some things need
previous items to be completed
mclinkor> and this is shown by the presence of the
bars
mclinkor> furthermore, it is broken down into large
goals and smaller items
mclinkor> and I'm sure reading the wiki definition
couldn't hurt
mclinkor> now that you guys should have had a chance
to glance over mine, any questions?
Kelly Mann> no, i should be able to put one together
Goodnight> yeah...any suggestions as to what my
position should be doing beyond the obvious?
mclinkor> cool, if you have any, feel free to let me
know
mclinkor> the obvious is cool at this stage
mclinkor> since we've been waiting for it for several
years now
*private from Goodnight*> sounds good
Goodnight> sounds good
mclinkor> if you think of any cool things to do, then
by all means...
Goodnight> ok...i'll start with trying to get anything
I can from John and then move on to making sure I find
where serious work needs to be done
mclinkor> sounds good
Goodnight> at what point should we aim to have these
completed?
mclinkor> how about next meeting
mclinkor> shouldn't take you more than an hour
Jake> uhhhhh I might need an finals based extension on
that
Josh> (back)
mclinkor> oh come on
Goodnight> I can at least get the basics done by then
Josh> Well lets have everyone draw up a rough draft of
their Gannt charts
Josh> put them on Google Docs
mclinkor> cool
Kelly Mann> k
Goodnight> ok roger that
Josh> say get a rough draft up there and invite people
by next meeting?
Jake> that's doable
Kelly Mann> k, sounds good
Josh> Ok, I didnt have anything else major on the
agenda for tonight. But I hope you're all taking my
suggestion to heart and scheduling in several hours a
week (at a minimum) for SEDS stuff
Josh> start drawing up your plans and working on your
projects
Brian Young> i have one thing
Josh> go ahead Brian
haoqi> I have 2 things
haoqi> after Brian
Brian Young> sorry, i didn't send it in earlier, ive
been really busy with a new set up
Goodnight> Just one last thing...glad to be working
with ya'll...hope this year is better than any in the
past
Brian Young> I've basically decided to set the date
for the conference for the November date, unless we
have a vote to move everything permanently to a
february date
Brian Young> which i've always personally thought was
a good plan
Brian Young> but i can't do that myself
Brian Young> and i don't even know the procedure to do
that
Josh> If you want to propose it, it is doable
Josh> probably would be nice to get a Concil of
Chapters approval
Brian Young> i know
Brian Young> thats my concern, is the timing, because
if we stick with november we need to get going
Brian Young> so is that something we can move forward
with quickly?
Brian Young> darrell?
Josh> Darrell u alive?
mclinkor> he's pseudo here
Josh> yeah
Josh> I'd say email Darrell and see when he is
planning on the first council of chapters
Josh> if its soon enough for you, great
Josh> if not, just go with the november date
Brian Young> yeah, looks like what ill have to do
Brian Young> thats all ive got
Josh> Haoqi?
haoqi> Does anyone have any suggestions for chapter
expansions?
haoqi> I.e. things that worked before, didn't work
Jake> yes
Jake> blind sends don't work as well as taking an
interest in something that is coming up with them
Jake> if they have an event they are planning they are
more receptive to people with ideas
Jake> targetting those people might yield better
results and concurrently increase the amount of events
we show up at
Brian Young> also, i have a new VT contact for you,
i'll send it on tonight or tomorrow
Brian Young> this guys mom is on the AAS board and
seems interested, those kind of contacts are good
haoqi> ok thanks Brian.
haoqi> how about the starter packet
haoqi> is it different from the pages online?
haoqi> starter kit*
Josh> Ryan, is there a copy of the old one still on
the server?
Josh> I have a copy of the word document of it
mclinkor> there should be
mclinkor> I can see if I can find it
Josh> could you look into getting it to Haoqi?
Josh> That would be amazing if we can get that put
together
haoqi> oh so there is a new one
Josh> there's actually a copy somewhere of a version
that was handed out to chapters
Josh> printed off and mailed
haoqi> that is different from the online version?
Josh> basically it is most of the information in the
online one
haoqi> oh
Josh> in a slightly different format
Josh> so updating one will update the other
haoqi> about how many new chapter requests do we get
every year?
Josh> variable. we actually dropped in chapters this
year
Josh> Finance, one thing I would like to be your
second priority
Josh> getting dues from the chapters that didnt get
around to paying
Josh> for one reason or another
mclinkor> you should be actively recruiting chapters
Josh> ex: Prescott, Washington, UC San Diego
mclinkor> rather than waiting for requests though
haoqi> okay. Do we collect dues all at one time
Kelly Mann> i owe dues, but im not sure who to talk to
about that
Goodnight> Ok...how would i get a list of those
chapters that didn't pay...and I'll go by Goodnight
from now on to avoid confusion with the other Ryan
mclinkor> and re-recruiting back those who 'left'
haoqi> yes
mclinkor> once we develop reasons for them to pay
fues, for example
mclinkor> *dues
haoqi> do we have a list of contacts of the present
seds chapters
mclinkor> seds.org/chapters.php
haoqi> thank you
Brian Young> that can be out of date
Josh> yeah
Brian Young> id ask darrell as well
Josh> thats another thing we need to set up a google
doc for
haoqi> who has the updated version?
Josh> hte most recent version of that
haoqi> yes
Brian Young> since he should be getting personal
contact with all of them
Josh> Darrell will be building a more recent version
haoqi> ok
haoqi> about active recruiting. I do have a request
for all
Goodnight> would john have a list of chapters that
have no paid their dues?
Goodnight> have not*
mclinkor> yes, he sent it out
mclinkor> I can forward it to you
Goodnight> ok thanks
haoqi> So this is my simple request: Please start
looking around at schools around your school, both
colleges and high schools, for their contact
information. Email addresses, phone numbers, or even
just a webpage will do. This should get us started in
recruiting new chapters.
haoqi> Give me the contact information, and I'll reach
out to them
haoqi> :)
Kelly Mann> ill be working with HaoQi on the
highschool stuff as well
haoqi> yay!
Goodnight> got it...thanks Ryan
Josh> Any other items for tonight?
Josh> I had one more thing actually
Josh> Meeting days/times
Josh> Josh Sosa is not able to make this meeting
day/time
mclinkor> how long is his conflict
Josh> What days of the week are absolutely no good for
you guys?
Josh> assume same time as right now
Kelly Mann> thursdays
haoqi> Can't do Thursday nights
Brian Young> i can make monday-thursdays work
Josh> Mondays and thursdays are no good for me
mclinkor> can't do wed/thurs
Goodnight> fridays and saturdays....other than that
I'm good
Jake> done with classes after this week, so...anytime
Josh> Alright, so right there we've blocked off most
of the days of the week
mclinkor> [I'm asking darrell]
Josh> lol
Josh> are you in his play rehersal or something?
mclinkor> no, he's back online
mclinkor> ok, he has no specific conflicts
mclinkor> (seds chat server is rejecting him)
Josh> Ok
Josh> We'll stay Tuesdays then
Josh> for now
Kelly Mann> k
Goodnight> Ok
Josh> next semester we'll see if there is a time that
works for everyone
mclinkor> k
Josh> once peoples schedule evolve
Josh> Anything else for tonight?
Goodnight> one last question
Josh> shoot
Goodnight> how involved are we in NASA Means Business?
Josh> We proposed hosting a prize for it
Josh> SEDS exclusive
Josh> but there wasnt sufficient interest at the
chapter level, or money available
Goodnight> hrmm ok...looks interesting and was just
wondering
Josh> its definetly something SEDS as an organization
encourages
Goodnight> ok i gotcha
Josh> since it is a very good competition
Josh> and involves people outside of traditional space
majors
Josh> If you're interested in arranging and promoting
a SEDS prize or encouraging seds involvement in it,
let me know
haoqi> is there a website for it?
Goodnight> yeah well it looks sweet...got me wondering
about our involvement
Goodnight> ok i will let you know...lets let things
cool down with finals first
Goodnight> then i will look into it further
Josh> http://www.tsgc.utexas.edu/nmb/
Josh> Ok
Josh> Anything else?
Josh> Feel free to mingle and chat / ask questions
afterward
Josh> ;-)
Goodnight> just want to let everyone know im excited
about working with ya'll hope this year is great
Josh> On that note, meeting adjurned
