[18:06] You: Josh is ill [18:07] You: But, he said a new version of the rules for the rocket competition will be sent to exec this week [18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: jeez where is everyone [18:07] You: if someone can get onto AIM and poke ppl that would be appreciated [18:07] You: (i do not have access at this point) [18:07] BTYoung Yifu: no ones on aim [18:07] Ryanblah Qinan: confirmed [18:07] You: ok [18:08] Asterion Coen: (im just a visitor) [18:09] You: I know Danderson is at the Illinois SEDS meeting at this time [18:09] You: I think we should just continue [18:09] You: Josh has a concern about the rocket competition [18:10] You: he said he is having a hard time getting chapters to commit since we do not have a 501c form filled out [18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: how does that affect rocket [18:10] You: I already talked to John and he has done everything he can at this point [18:10] BTYoung Yifu: makes it harder to get donors? [18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: interesting [18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: I just asked john about it yesterday [18:10] Ryanblah Qinan: and he said that he'd been sidetracked from it [18:11] Ryanblah Qinan: and was going to get on it again [18:11] You: the chapters are finding it difficult to find funding [18:11] You: ok [18:11] You: I just emailed him with the current situation [18:11] You: and I told him I would help if he needed it [18:12] You: b/c we can't have this affect our other projects [18:12] You: Do either of you have altnernate suggestions? [18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah, it's gone on far too long [18:12] Asterion Coen: yes me.. what project about ? [18:12] Ryanblah Qinan: although I still don't understant what has been taking it so long [18:12] BTYoung Yifu: baloon launched rocket competion [18:13] Asterion Coen: i guess RL [18:13] BTYoung Yifu: yes [18:13] You: Well he sent out an email about 3 weeks ago about needing descriptions of what our positions entail [18:14] You: after discussion, we determined it would be best if he wrote them since he knew best what the IRS was looking for [18:14] You: Perhaps that was where he got sidetracked [18:14] You: Do you know if there is anyway an individual chpater can file a 501c? [18:15] BTYoung Yifu: i cant imagine it would be faster than getting it done at tthe national level [18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: well, we've been using mit's status [18:15] Ryanblah Qinan: os 501c3 [18:16] Ryanblah Qinan: to say MITSEDS is [18:16] You: is that for purchases only? [18:16] Ryanblah Qinan: no, sponsorship too [18:16] You: ok [18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: I have a nice little form that says we are tax exempt, ... [18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: that I can send out to people for full 501c3 [18:17] Asterion Coen: 501c3.. ? [18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: that's how I got Northrop to sponsor us for SV [18:17] You: well maybe that is a direction we can send the chapters who are looking for funding for the rocket project [18:18] Ryanblah Qinan: I would imagine that most universties have 501c3 status [18:19] You: so what types of organizations would that apply to? [18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: what do you mean [18:19] Asterion Coen: ok, that's a non profit association [18:20] You: since, universities have that status, which inclusive groups would would also have that status indicated on the form? [18:20] You: non-for-profits associated with the university? or would each club need to file their own? [18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: MITSEDS didn't have to [18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: I would think that it should trickle down [18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: since the clubs are part of the univ [18:21] You: ok [18:21] You: I am going to look into it and get back to Josh [18:22] You: I know it would be easier to just wait until SEDS-USA got it, but some chapters are in need of it now [18:22] You: apparently MITSEDS has shown interest in the rocket comp? [18:23] Ryanblah Qinan: yes [18:23] You: cool [18:24] BTYoung Yifu: we're planning on competing too, but we havent looked at fundraising quite yet, still trying to determine a necessary budget [18:24] You: ok [18:24] You: Illinois decided to pursue building a mach1 rocket instead [18:24] You: oh well [18:25] You: Do either of you have any other comments for Josh/John or in general? [18:25] You: Ok [18:26] You: Danderson sent out a new version of the brochure, I already sent him a bunch of improvements, feel free to add any [18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: I send him improvements every time [18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: but they seem to not get incorporated [18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: into changes [18:26] You: hmm [18:26] Ryanblah Qinan: so I've given up [18:27] You: can you cc them to me? I bet we are telling him the same things [18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: probably [18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: I just glanced over this last one [18:27] Ryanblah Qinan: if I do look over it closely, it won't be until this weekend [18:27] You: ok, or just the comments you made in the past would be helpful [18:28] You: ok, anything else? [18:28] You: Next CoC is coming up, the new NOVA is due out this week [18:28] You: I think that is about it [18:29] Ryanblah Qinan: wow, meetings are short when I don't have agenda items [18:29] You: haha yeah and when there are only 3 exec members present [18:29] BTYoung Yifu: always helps [18:29] BTYoung Yifu: i wont be able to make it next wekkeven [18:30] BTYoung Yifu: could be even emptier [18:30] You: wwll hopefully Josh will recover by then [18:30] Asterion Coen: well it was nice to hear you. have fun folks [18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: it seems like the exec boad largely burnt out toward the end of spring term [18:30] Ryanblah Qinan: not sure why [18:30] Asterion Coen: and good luck [18:31] You: yeah [18:31] You: I have not heard back from Rohan since the beginning of the summer [18:31] You: Has not returned emails etc. [18:31] You: We will need a new strong board for next year [18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: yeah [18:32] BTYoung Yifu: when do nominations open for next year? [18:32] You: Are you guys staying on? [18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: we should probably try to do some recruiting [18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: I intend to run for the same positions [18:32] BTYoung Yifu: if no one runs for this job ill stick with it [18:32] You: ok [18:32] Ryanblah Qinan: (although I'd give up webmaster if anyone wants) [18:32] BTYoung Yifu: you? [18:33] You: I guess it depends if I will still be a "student" [18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: nomunations will open up soon [18:33] You: but I won't know by then anyway [18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: I've been meaning to send that out [18:33] Ryanblah Qinan: (it's been a couple of weeks since my last email to the lists, so I guess I'm due [18:34] Ryanblah Qinan: ;) [18:34] BTYoung Yifu: sounds good [18:34] You: Any last comments?
