[18:06] RolandBolser Voom: sry, clicked here by mistake [18:06] You: k [18:07] You: brian is downloading a new version of SL [18:10] You: alright let's wait 2 more minutes and then get started [18:10] You: Jake and Josh had items for the agenda and since Josh isn't here we'll start with Jake [18:11] RolandBolser Voom: sorry, left the room for a sec [18:11] RolandBolser Voom: I've been talking to a group called NESSIE thats based in Boston [18:12] RolandBolser Voom: they are broken up now, but the person I emailed works at CFA and has a lot of connections around the country [18:12] RolandBolser Voom: so we are going to try to work with that to get people into SEDS and to come to the conference [18:12] RolandBolser Voom: fin [18:13] You: cool [18:13] You: so they are college-student age? [18:14] RolandBolser Voom: there are children of all age that are connected to the program, so I told them to focus on college age and high school age [18:14] Ryanblah Qinan: so what is CFA [18:14] You: ah [18:14] RolandBolser Voom: Harvard Astronomy [18:15] You: so they are just interested in the conference or are the highschool kids interested in starting a potential SEDS chapter? [18:16] RolandBolser Voom: this is a group that is connected to teachers, colleges, etcetra [18:16] RolandBolser Voom: so right now, it's advertising [18:16] You: oh ok [18:16] RolandBolser Voom: the personwho I talked to wants to help anyway possible tho [18:16] RolandBolser Voom: suggested the MIT Space Grant people as good contacts as well (Ryan) [18:17] Ryanblah Qinan: space grant people love this kind of stuff [18:17] RolandBolser Voom: are they on board on this already? [18:17] RolandBolser Voom: because [18:17] RolandBolser Voom: you know [18:17] RolandBolser Voom: space grant's in a lot of states [18:18] RolandBolser Voom: or we can talk about that privately later [18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: well, to some extent [18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: ma is funding us $3k [18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: ny is funding students from buffalo [18:19] Ryanblah Qinan: and in general, space grant loves to fund students travelling to confs [18:20] RolandBolser Voom: this is very useful information [18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: there are contacts for each state on their webpage [18:20] Ryanblah Qinan: but if you need contacts from ma or ny [18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: I can proviide [18:21] RolandBolser Voom: okay [18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: and by contacts I mean references [18:21] Ryanblah Qinan: (since contacts are public) [18:21] RolandBolser Voom: I'll follow that up with you off this [18:21] You: great [18:22] You: Jake, any other updates from expansion? [18:23] danderson Beck: Not really, just working on my own brochure. [18:24] You: ok (to Dan) [18:24] You: Josh wanted to make some comments on the competition guidelines but I do not know where he is [18:24] You: He was also worried that the art prize was not getting enough applicants [18:25] You: so far there have been 4 entries [18:25] You: two of which were not original work [18:25] danderson Beck: We should try to talk to the art depts of our various schools [18:25] danderson Beck: at least post fliers there [18:26] You: Yes, I know Illinois has planned on doing that [18:26] You: I'll send Damion an email so he mentions it during CoC [18:26] You: otherwise, it isn't much of a contest [18:26] danderson Beck: yeah [18:27] You: Ok [18:27] You: Any other updates?
