Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:17:28 PM): next item on the agenda
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:17:39 PM): Exec board decisions for the last month
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:17:48 PM): I turn the floor over to Kelly
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:17:54 PM): alright
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:18:15 PM): after i post a toppic feel free to ask questions about it
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:18:30 PM): if i cant answer them then someone else from exec will be able to
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:18:55 PM): First thing i want to mention is the endowment fund
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:20:11 PM): Ryan just had a meeting with the board about it and if there is anything new that he would like to tell you guys he could do that now or later
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:21:14 PM): ok, if any of you guys have questions about it shoot them over to Ryan
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:21:43 PM): Ryan is Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:21:59 PM): thanks Darrell
James Pura, UCSD(9:23:35 PM): Kelly, I'm a new chapter (UCSD). Can you explain the endowment fund?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:24:19 PM): Ok, next thing is we are working on getting more chapters started, and our expansion chair has been working on getting a pack together for interested schools for SEDS USA and EARTH
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:24:51 PM): James, im going to have Ryan explain that, he knows more about whats going on there
James Pura, UCSD(9:24:56 PM): ok
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:25:28 PM): Ryan has the floor for the purpose of explaining the endowment fund
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:25:37 PM): The purpose of the endowment fund is to provide a long-term source of money for the seds organization
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:25:49 PM): since right now moeny comes from chapters and individuals
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:26:11 PM): but to really get moving and fund projects/shcolarships/etc on a national level, we need a secure, constant source of money
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:26:32 PM): so basically, the endowment fund is a principal of moeny
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:26:49 PM): and the interest funds the costs of the executive baord
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:26:57 PM): does that make sense?
James Pura, UCSD(9:27:01 PM): yes, thanks
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:27:18 PM): if you want further details, feel free to let me know
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:27:22 PM): what is the status of the 501c3 that the same company was going to set up for us?
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:27:49 PM): Ryan Goodnight is moving forward with that in parallel with the endowment
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:28:03 PM): any time frame?
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:28:05 PM): and I believe we are lookinf for by the end of the summer to have it operatinal
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (9:28:27 PM): does that imply funding for the 08-09 year?
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:28:44 PM): you mean from endowment fund?
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:28:49 PM): we've waited for over two years for the non-profit... as its really holding our club back in terms of getting funding, so hopefully we can get that soon
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:29:13 PM): you should be able to use 501c3 for next year if that's what you mean
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:29:29 PM): Michael, I know this isn't an option for you guys
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:29:42 PM): but for some schools, you can use your school's 501c3 to cover you
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:29:52 PM): (like we used at mit for sv07)
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (9:29:58 PM): great, are the details of the 501c3 story posted on the website?
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:30:01 PM): yeah, we have to agree to not use theirs, in order to become a club
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:30:39 PM): Margaret, not that I know of
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:30:47 PM): like a real-time status update
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:30:58 PM): but you can feel free to ping Ryan and the board
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:31:05 PM): (or Darrell)
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (9:31:08 PM): whenever you want an update
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (9:31:15 PM): Thanks, our chapter is new, I'm learning the ropes here.
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:32:40 PM): ok, thanks Ryan
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:33:11 PM): The next thing i want to mention is the National Alliances and Benefits
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:33:58 PM): These are things that we share with other organizations that we are "allied" with.
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:34:17 PM): Right now those organizations are NSS and ASS
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:34:36 PM): (AAS)
nick day, UBSEDS (9:34:49 PM): what do those acronyms stand for?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:34:50 PM): haha, my bad guys
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:35:29 PM): National Space Society, American Aeronautical Society
nick day, UBSEDS (9:35:36 PM): k, thanx
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:35:43 PM): (Astronautical)
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:35:48 PM): but none are finalized
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:36:13 PM): astronomical?
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:36:21 PM): no, thats a different group
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:36:42 PM): 'our' AAS is specifically devoted to space flight technology
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:36:48 PM): ok
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:37:52 PM): the things we are proposing are: discounted conference admission, table space at conferences, logo links on main sites, perference for scholarships/opportunities, and 1 year free membership to SEDS graduates
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:38:11 PM): but, again, these are just being proposed
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (9:38:47 PM): so these benefits would go both ways?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:39:38 PM): Yeah, they will go both ways
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (9:39:44 PM): ok
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:40:11 PM): any more questions?
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:40:26 PM): If I may interject Kelly?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:40:29 PM): sure
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:41:15 PM): alot of these benefits SEDS members get from these groups already
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (9:41:15 PM): floor is handed to Josh, SEDS Chair
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:41:40 PM): We're merely trying to solidify an agreement and get it in writing what benefits SEDS members will get from various organizations
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:41:46 PM): instead of the ad-hoc method we use right now
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:41:52 PM): where it is on a case by case basis
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:42:24 PM): Any further questions, let me know.
Basant V Sagar, MIT (9:43:26 PM): are we gonna have a SEDS rep on the board of these organizations
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:43:45 PM): we havent proposed it, no
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:44:06 PM): maybe in the future, lets work on benefits right now
Basant V Sagar, MIT (9:44:26 PM): k
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:44:29 PM): if i may interject, we do have an informal thing going for us as observors at their board meetings
Brian Young, Outreach Director SEDS-USA (9:44:52 PM): last year i sat in on the annual AAS board of directors meeting, and Kirk and Megha have done so in the past as well
Basant V Sagar, MIT (9:45:45 PM): cool
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:47:39 PM): ok
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:48:14 PM): so the last thing i want to mention is the ISDC next month
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:49:51 PM): We were given the oportunity to request five speakers to talk to us alone
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:50:10 PM): "us" as in SEDS exclusive
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:51:24 PM): The people we requested (in order of highest request to lowest) are: Burt Rutan, Elon Musk, Robert Bigelow, Will Whitehorn, and Eric Anderson
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:51:51 PM): there is no garanty that we will get all of them, but we can hope for as many as possible
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:52:31 PM): last year we got two
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:53:01 PM): There are two other things i want to mention for ISDC before we go for questions
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:53:28 PM): The first is that SEDS memebers get discounted rates for the cost of the conference
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:53:37 PM): ( SEDS registration rate is $30 instead of the usual student rate of $50 )
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:53:51 PM): are we SURE of this?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:54:54 PM): yes, im pretty sure we are
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:55:07 PM): thing is, the NSS people don't know this
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:55:16 PM): as they've been charging full rate
michael green, SEDS-UCF (9:55:29 PM): (or the 40 if it was early-bird)
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:55:35 PM): hmm
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:55:41 PM): one sec
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:55:55 PM): I just got off the phone with Jake Welch who has been coordinating with them for us
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:56:21 PM): there IS a SEDS rate of $30 (last we checked) but there's a disconnect between the registration people and teh organizers
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:56:33 PM): we're calling them to fix this
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:56:37 PM): sorry for the inconvience
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:57:07 PM): I'll send an email out to SEDS Chapters once this has been fixed
Joshua Nelson, Chairman SEDS-USA (9:57:17 PM): *goes back to his corner*
Justin Richardson, ISSS (9:57:32 PM) has left the room.
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:57:41 PM): k, thanks Josh
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (9:58:41 PM): The last thing i want to mention is that SEDS will have a booth at the conference, and we are looking for things that SEDS members have done over the year to display there
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:00:05 PM): so if you have anything tell one of the exec guys
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:00:13 PM): thats it for me
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:00:17 PM): alright...next item on the agenda is CoC at ISDC
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:00:32 PM): I will take this item
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:00:48 PM): at the last meeting we discussed holding a live CoC at ISDC with full voting rights
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:00:53 PM): and then tabled the topic until this meeting
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:18 PM): please discuss whether or not we should (if we don't have a live meeting then we'll have one online earlier in May)
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:28 PM): and then someone propose a vote on the issue
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:32 PM): and then someone second
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:33 PM): and then vote
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:34 PM): etc.
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:37 PM): floor is open
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:01:42 PM): opinions wanted
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:01:51 PM): i think we should
Antonio Villarreal, UA-SEDS (10:01:53 PM): How many chapters are attending ISDC?
Antonio Villarreal, UA-SEDS (10:01:58 PM): Shouldn't have CoC without at least 2/3rds.
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:02:15 PM): according to last meeting, a lot were having atleast someone to rep. them, even if it isn't their CoC Rep.
nick day, UBSEDS (10:02:22 PM): i think that UBSEDS is sending at least one or two members..
Ryan Caron, WPI (10:02:29 PM): depends on when it is held. if its the day after the majority of the events it becomes problematic as people have to head back
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:02:40 PM): if everyone can have a representative then i'm for it
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:02:43 PM): or at least some majority
Mariel John, GWU(10:03:04 PM): majority and then the rest phone in? or is that too difficult
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:03:21 PM): any member from a chapter can be granted voting rights
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:03:30 PM): by request from the chapter rep
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:04:06 PM): Exec can also arrange a conference line
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (10:04:37 PM): how productive would this meeting be?
Basant V Sagar, MIT (10:04:54 PM): >= this one
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (10:05:16 PM): would it be more useful to hold a post-isdc meeting?
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:05:54 PM): productive enough that even if CoC doesn't officially meet with voting rights i will be holding a non official one
Ryan McLinko, SEDS-USA Vice Chair (10:06:19 PM): btw, I've heard from 10 chapters that will actually be present @ ISDC
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (10:06:25 PM): sounds reasonable
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:06:45 PM): we currently have 16 fully recognized chapters
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (10:07:17 PM): I like the idea of getting a direct update from isdc. i'm in favor
James Pura, UCSD(10:07:30 PM): I second
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:07:47 PM): i motion to vote on this
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:07:52 PM): second
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:07:53 PM): we have a motion on the table for a live CoC meeting at ISDC
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:08:05 PM): SEDS-UCF aye
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:08:08 PM): please list aye/nay/abstain and chapter

Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:10:07 PM): we'll work on the details
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:10:15 PM): next item on the agenda
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:10:22 PM): CoC during the summer
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:10:35 PM): this was brought forward by the exec board
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:10:45 PM): thus..Kelly, could you please present the item?
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:10:55 PM): sure
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:11:29 PM): As you guys probably know, SEDS continues year round
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:12:21 PM): And we need to have a vote on whether you all want to meet monthly during the break or just once during the summer
Kelly Mann, Director of High School Affairs, SEDS-USA (10:13:18 PM): Since exec board will meet every week regardless, if you all remain more active then it will really help to keep things moving over the summer
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:13:42 PM): floor is open for discussion
Basant V Sagar, MIT (10:13:47 PM): it's better to continue with monthly meetings
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:14:13 PM): how helpful are the CoC meetings to the exec board?
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:14:18 PM): i mean, its just a matter of like 3 meetings, is that too much to ask?
James Pura, UCSD(10:14:32 PM): I say we should meet as frequently as needed. If we need more than once a month, we should meet more frequently
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:14:35 PM): i'm just wondering what issues we'd actually be working
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:14:47 PM): I can provide some data on helpfullness to exec
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:15:00 PM): last year CoC didn't meet, we lost 13 chapters
Basant V Sagar, MIT (10:15:11 PM): OMG
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:15:14 PM): the previous two years it did..we gained somewhere around 15 during that time
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:15:35 PM): point is..this meeting keeps chapters connected to the national organization
nick day, UBSEDS (10:15:42 PM): just over the summer?
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:15:44 PM): ok
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:15:47 PM): that's what you have to decide
Darrell Cain, Director of Chapter Affairs SEDS-USA (10:15:54 PM): no..they didn't meet all year
nick day, UBSEDS (10:16:00 PM): o, gotcha
Grant Atkinson, Texas A&M University (10:16:02 PM): if you think it'll be helpful for keeping the organization together i'd be for it
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:16:06 PM): i strongly believe we need to keep on meeting
James Pura, UCSD(10:16:15 PM): i agree
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:16:15 PM): even just for the purposes of keeping in touch
Basant V Sagar, MIT (10:16:29 PM): it keeps us in the loop
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:16:34 PM): I propose a motion to keep on having meetings over summer...
Margaret Viola, The University of Chicago SEDS (10:16:38 PM): I need to use the summer to do serious planning for my new SEDS chapter (UC), I'm depending on these meetings
michael green, SEDS-UCF (10:16:39 PM): monthly
