[18:52] Nyeerrmm: sure [18:52] DarrellDCain: that i wouldn't typically ask during exec meetings? [18:52] DarrellDCain: alright [18:52] Jedi8798: did you guys read the latest NASA budget? [18:52] DarrellDCain: how many people have you invited so far? [18:53] DarrellDCain: /speakers? [18:53] Nyeerrmm: i've invited around 8... i've been focusing on the big names and our regular supporters [18:53] DarrellDCain: hmmm [18:54] Jedi8798: dont forget to diversify a bit [18:54] DarrellDCain: I forget how many we started by inviting [18:54] DarrellDCain: I think we assumed that a lot of people would say no [18:54] DarrellDCain: and then...well..they did [18:54] Nyeerrmm: working on that too... i really want to get rob manning whos in charge of the mars exploration directorate at JPL [18:54] DarrellDCain: Ryan would have more specific details [18:54] rmmlg08: in reality, not many said no [18:54] DarrellDCain: true [18:54] rmmlg08: but you can get those details from the website [18:54] DarrellDCain: I'm thinking the big names [18:55] DarrellDCain: and we didn't invite many of those [18:55] DarrellDCain: specifically Burt Rutan [18:55] DarrellDCain: we lost Binnie and Patty Grace Smith after the Mohjave incident [18:56] DarrellDCain: I can't speak with the highest confidence [18:56] DarrellDCain: Ryan can though! [18:56] rmmlg08: well we lost her because she can't keep her schedule straight [18:56] DarrellDCain: lol [18:56] Jedi8798: lol [18:56] DarrellDCain: off the record [18:56] *** hydrogenlithium has been invited to the group chat. [18:56] *** hydrogenlithium has joined the chat. [18:56] hydrogenlithium: test [18:57] Jedi8798: yup [18:57] *** KellyMann10 has been invited to the group chat. [19:01] Jedi8798: hmmmm [19:01] Jedi8798: The ever decreasing attendance is concerning me [19:02] *** KellyMann10 has been invited to the group chat. [19:02] hydrogenlithium: :( [19:02] *** KellyMann10 has joined the chat. [19:02] KellyMann10: hi everyone [19:02] Jedi8798: yo [19:02] hydrogenlithium: hello [19:03] Jedi8798: So, first off, if any of you have any suggestions for increasing attendance, please let me know. [19:03] Jedi8798: We started off great [19:03] DarrellDCain: threaten death [19:04] DarrellDCain: or threaten loss of status [19:04] hydrogenlithium: I think we should have mid-week reminders [19:04] DarrellDCain: this is written into the constitution [19:04] hydrogenlithium: or check timelines [19:04] Jedi8798: It is seriously a possibility. [19:04] hydrogenlithium: like the deadlines [19:04] DarrellDCain: they only have a couple weeks to attend [19:04] DarrellDCain: then they're out [19:04] DarrellDCain: by vote of CoC [19:04] DarrellDCain: not that we have a CoC [19:04] Jedi8798: LoL [19:04] DarrellDCain: O:-) [19:04] Jedi8798: Ok, more formally now [19:04] Jedi8798: first up on the meeting agenda is officer updates [19:04] Jedi8798: I'll start [19:04] DarrellDCain: I'll be in and out [19:04] Jedi8798: Oh, [19:04] DarrellDCain: let me be last [19:04] Jedi8798: Darrell you want to go right now? [19:05] Jedi8798: would that be easier? [19:05] DarrellDCain: I should be done with most of my stuff by then [19:05] DarrellDCain: I'm in the middle of a number [19:05] Jedi8798: k [19:05] DarrellDCain: but in a second my character gets knocked out for the rest of the show [19:05] Jedi8798: lol [19:05] Jedi8798: Allright [19:05] Jedi8798: Report for Chair/Projects [19:07] *** Your previous message has not been sent. Reason: Maximum length (232) exceeded. You can recall the last message typed with Ctrl-Up or Up, depending on settings. [19:07] Jedi8798: So far this semester we've had all of our scheduled Exec Board meetings. Overall we've gotten a large amount of work done as a board. In expanding our alliances I've recently begun buildin [19:07] Jedi8798: g a 'Affiliate packet' to distribute to our affiliates. In the future when we sign MOUs we hope to get something out of them. Right now they're basically useless. [19:08] Jedi8798: On the rocket project front, directions for Letter of Intent were posted recently on SEDS.org. Final version of rules to come out by end of February [19:08] Jedi8798: Rockets listserv will be up and running by the end of the night for all the team contacts [19:09] Jedi8798: and I'm giving Josh a list of FAQ's to put in the website as well. [19:09] Jedi8798: Funding proposals have gone out to Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing [19:09] Jedi8798: and a few other companies [19:09] Jedi8798: I'm trying to send it out to 2-3 companies a day. [19:10] Jedi8798: No word from X PRIZE if there will be a Cup. [19:10] Jedi8798: Thats all for me right now. Questions? [19:10] rmmlg08: what do you mean by "if" [19:10] rmmlg08: I wasn't aware that there was a question if they would have one [19:10] Jedi8798: If they cant fund it, there cant be a Cup, and they lost their title name sponsor. [19:11] rmmlg08: oh [19:11] KellyMann10: sounds good to me [19:12] Jedi8798: Feel free to give me any criticism/feedback, either here or in private. [19:12] Jedi8798: Any further questions? [19:12] Jedi8798: Oh! [19:12] Jedi8798: HaoQi's old high school is a SEDS chapter, and they are hosting an Aerospace conference the same week as March Storm [19:12] Jedi8798: I'm going to help them get some SEDS friends to talk [19:13] hydrogenlithium: it's not just my old high school, it's also a SEDS chapter [19:13] hydrogenlithium: fyi [19:13] Jedi8798: ;-) [19:13] Jedi8798: I know, I specified that ;-) [19:13] hydrogenlithium: (sorry I misread) [19:13] Jedi8798: Its really great that these high school students are hosting something like this, so I'm giving them all the support I can. [19:13] hydrogenlithium: thank you [19:13] KellyMann10: yeah [19:14] Jedi8798: If there are no further questions, HaoQi, status report? [19:14] KellyMann10: if you need me for anything, please tell me [19:14] hydrogenlithium: nothing [19:14] hydrogenlithium: sorry [19:14] hydrogenlithium: >< [19:14] hydrogenlithium: oh Josh [19:14] Jedi8798: How about how many new chapters we've formed this semester, and how many are in the que to join? [19:14] Jedi8798: And future chapter expansion efforts? [19:14] hydrogenlithium: no, I've been lazy [19:14] hydrogenlithium: I really should kick myself and start working [19:15] hydrogenlithium: I'm sorry [19:15] hydrogenlithium: I will set a goal to contact at least one school before next week's meeting [19:16] Jedi8798: Ok, though I'd like to set a much more ambitious goal for the future [19:16] Jedi8798: maybe a school a day or something? [19:16] hydrogenlithium: ? [19:17] Jedi8798: One thing I pushed at the beggining of the semester, is set aside a scheduled hour a day for SEDS [19:17] Jedi8798: that you actually write in to do SEDS work :-) [19:18] hydrogenlithium: I can't promise daily [19:18] Jedi8798: k, next on my AIM list is Brian, any update on your end? Conferences, lapel pins, other items of your position? [19:20] Jedi8798: Mars to Brian [19:21] Nyeerrmm: sorry [19:21] Jedi8798: np [19:21] Jedi8798: Update? [19:21] Nyeerrmm: lapel pins are ordered, no shipping date yet, i expect to hear from them soon [19:21] Nyeerrmm: this is a company jakes worked with before, i dont expect any problems [19:22] Nyeerrmm: conference, I've decided to go with the November date because though it was tied by chapter, most of the larger schools were on the november side [19:22] Nyeerrmm: and with that I'm off and running recruiting speakers [19:23] Nyeerrmm: I've got Bob Richards, Jim Muncy, Peter Diamandis (most likely), someone from Armadillo [19:23] Nyeerrmm: and only a no from Elon Musk, working to get someone else from SpaceX [19:23] Nyeerrmm: i've got a good contact at mcgregor, so i may work through her [19:23] Nyeerrmm: overall things are rolling but not much definite [19:24] Nyeerrmm: darrell, i'll get an email ready to send to all the chapter reps regarding the date [19:24] Nyeerrmm: and... something actually related to my position [19:24] DarrellDCain: lol [19:25] Nyeerrmm: Kirk made us aware of a deal with nasa funding for education [19:26] Nyeerrmm: it seems like its specifically intended to go directly to schools [19:26] Nyeerrmm: so i figure a good way to help out would be to alert chapters, give them contact info so that they can contact teachers and schools they're associated with [19:26] Nyeerrmm: i also made some suggestions for some more in depth things, but there's nothing coming of it yet [19:27] Nyeerrmm: again, i'll get something ready for darrell to send out too [19:27] Nyeerrmm: (not something i want to do on SEDS-announce) [19:27] Jedi8798: nice [19:27] Nyeerrmm: and thats all i have [19:27] Jedi8798: maybe include it in Darrell's bullitin to chapters [19:27] Nyeerrmm: yeah, they've just asked us to be somewhat discrete in distribution [19:27] Jedi8798: k [19:28] DarrellDCain: who's they've? [19:28] DarrellDCain: oh [19:28] DarrellDCain: the NASA thing [19:28] Nyeerrmm: the nasa folks, umm.. last names griffin [19:28] DarrellDCain: hmm..rings a bell [19:28] Nyeerrmm: i think kirk was implying she may be related to mike, but im not sure [19:29] Jedi8798: for the conference, what level NASA people have you been looking at [19:30] Jedi8798: outside of the Mars rover guys? [19:30] Jedi8798: Any good Houston contacts you can draw on? [19:31] Jedi8798: Moving on, Ryan, update? [19:31] Nyeerrmm: im hoping to get coats on the houston side [19:31] Nyeerrmm: (done now) [19:31] rmmlg08: so, i've been working on two things [19:31] rmmlg08: the endowment fund [19:32] rmmlg08: ie getting stuff together for the telecon on sat [19:32] rmmlg08: if you owe me anythign still, then be sure to get it to me [19:32] rmmlg08: but we should be able to get a better idea of how we're doing after that [19:33] rmmlg08: other thing is the conferences [19:33] rmmlg08: which I've been advertising in general and to chapters local to conferences [19:33] rmmlg08: there are a number of them coming up soon [19:34] rmmlg08: so as always, encourage your chapters and others to attend and let me know [19:34] Jedi8798: Could you list the next few coming up? [19:35] Jedi8798: and see if any execs are planning on attending? [19:35] Jedi8798: One thing I would like to make a responsibility of the Exec Board is each member should outreach SEDS to at least one conference in their area [19:35] Jedi8798: space related [19:35] Jedi8798: I'm not sure how reasonable it is to require it [19:35] rmmlg08: yeah, so, there's the Goddard Symposium [19:35] rmmlg08: (AAS) [19:35] rmmlg08: 3/4-3/6 [19:36] rmmlg08: problem beign that is in the middle of the week [19:36] Jedi8798: aye [19:36] rmmlg08: nevertheless, maybe some chaptrs in the area can get some people to attend some amt [19:36] rmmlg08: but wouldn't expect many others too [19:36] rmmlg08: then, pro space [19:37] rmmlg08: 3/4-3/12 [19:37] rmmlg08: *3/9-3/12 [19:37] rmmlg08: which we always have a group of seds students who attend [19:37] Jedi8798: Do we have anyone planning a booth or some such? [19:38] rmmlg08: then in tx, lunar and plantetary science conf 3/10-3/14 [19:38] Nyeerrmm: do you know where? [19:38] rmmlg08: and space access 3/27-3/29 in phoenix [19:38] rmmlg08: (league city) [19:38] Jedi8798: Space Access I will be setting up a table for SEDS National at [19:38] rmmlg08: cool [19:39] Jedi8798: LPSC would be great to get a presence at. Brian, do any of your members go regularly? [19:39] Nyeerrmm: i've never heard of it, i'll look into it [19:39] rmmlg08: keep me posted [19:40] Jedi8798: its the biggest planetary science conference in the world [19:40] Jedi8798: while not many undergrads [19:40] Jedi8798: there are a ton of grad students [19:40] rmmlg08: ryan kobrick is planning on going as well [19:40] Jedi8798: and even more administrators [19:40] Jedi8798: might be a good opportunity to suggest departments build new chapters [19:40] rmmlg08: (one of the few responses to my lis) [19:40] Nyeerrmm: all right... hopefully i'll be able to work something out [19:40] Jedi8798: cool [19:41] Jedi8798: Next on list? [19:41] Jedi8798: (of confernces) [19:41] Jedi8798: oh, one not on your list [19:41] Jedi8798: because it isnt public [19:41] Jedi8798: The Next Generation Explorers Conference [19:41] Jedi8798: anyone get an invite this year? [19:42] rmmlg08: from my end, that's trhough the end of march [19:42] rmmlg08: I can continue, but that's more than 2 months out [19:42] rmmlg08: only other two things are national space symposium and yuri's night before isdc [19:43] Jedi8798: k [19:43] Jedi8798: Anything else on your end Ryan? [19:43] rmmlg08: nope [19:43] Jedi8798: Next on the list.... Kelly [19:44] Jedi8798: Any update Kelly? [19:45] KellyMann10: k, so i havent been able to to much this past week, just because we had our classes changed and there was some other stuff going to took up most of my time [19:45] KellyMann10: but i still have some stuff :-) [19:45] KellyMann10: i have been talking with the group in scottland about their project [19:46] KellyMann10: and i have signed my self up to help them out with what ever questions they have [19:46] KellyMann10: and if there is anything i need to ask you guys, ill send out an e mail [19:46] KellyMann10: and their outline i can share with everyone as soon as i have everyones email there [19:47] Jedi8798: cool beans [19:47] Jedi8798: any new high school chapters in teh works? [19:47] KellyMann10: I also have a list of schools in my area that i will work with HaoQi this week [19:47] *** DarrellDCain has left the chat. [19:48] KellyMann10: and i just need to get all of their contact info together this week [19:48] KellyMann10: then we can start calling them up [19:48] *** Joc75 has joined the chat. [19:48] *** DarrellDCain has been invited to the group chat. [19:48] *** DarrellDCain has joined the chat. [19:48] Jedi8798: ok [19:49] KellyMann10: and there is the one High school that is in the works [19:49] KellyMann10: i think thats all for me [19:49] Jedi8798: And now..... Darrell? [19:50] DarrellDCain: yep [19:50] DarrellDCain: CoC meeting was last Wednesday [19:50] DarrellDCain: you'll be hearing a report from the executive board rep later in the meeting [19:50] DarrellDCain: and then we'll choose a new exec board rep for the next meeting [19:51] DarrellDCain: next meeting will be Feb. 27th at 9:00 pm EST [19:51] DarrellDCain: approximately 11 reps attended the first meeting [19:51] DarrellDCain: transcript is online on the wiki [19:51] DarrellDCain: and about five observers [19:51] DarrellDCain: a couple items were discussed [19:52] DarrellDCain: two votes were passed [19:52] DarrellDCain: which I'll tell you in a minute [19:52] DarrellDCain: the CoC will be ratifying the constitution at the next meeting [19:52] DarrellDCain: they have a month to make comments or raise objections [19:52] DarrellDCain: I'm sending out national updates to chapter reps about once every two weeks [19:52] DarrellDCain: continue to keep things going and I'll continue to send things out [19:53] DarrellDCain: I should run those by SEDS exec the day before I send them out [19:53] DarrellDCain: there are four chapters I haven't queried for reps [19:53] DarrellDCain: and three chapters I still don't have a response on [19:53] DarrellDCain: otherwise we have 15 reps [19:54] DarrellDCain: couple other items [19:54] DarrellDCain: it would be good to be able to have reps update their chapter information [19:54] DarrellDCain: and I need updates from the finance chair when chapter dues come in [19:54] DarrellDCain: that way we can list the chapter as active [19:54] DarrellDCain: both will have to be handled offline [19:55] DarrellDCain: one by webmaster, other by finance [19:55] DarrellDCain: there are two formal requests from CoC this semester [19:55] DarrellDCain: a request (actually called a recommendation) [19:55] DarrellDCain: is a strongly worded recommendation from the CoC [19:55] DarrellDCain: not mandatory to be followed through on [19:56] DarrellDCain: but if no action is taken might be followed up by a direction [19:56] DarrellDCain: which is mandatory [19:56] DarrellDCain: let me pull up the exact wording on the two items [19:58] DarrellDCain: first recommendation is from UIUC [19:58] DarrellDCain: that didn't go through [19:58] DarrellDCain: one sec [19:59] DarrellDCain: Coralie Jackman UIUC (10:57:48 PM): I'd like to ask for a vote to create a formal recommendation to the SEDS exec board to move the elections to the sunday of the [19:59] DarrellDCain: conference and possibly shift the whole conference back a day if it works for the host school [19:59] DarrellDCain: discussion on this point is allowed once I present it [19:59] DarrellDCain: i.e. if anybody has anything to say [19:59] DarrellDCain: you can say it now [20:00] Jedi8798: I'd say it is a good idea to move the elections anyway [20:00] Jedi8798: to Sunday [20:00] Jedi8798: instead of Monday [20:00] Nyeerrmm: that was my plan [20:00] DarrellDCain: alrigth [20:00] DarrellDCain: then they should be pleased [20:01] DarrellDCain: the second item was brought up by MIT [20:01] DarrellDCain: the vote was suggested by Josh Nelson [20:01] DarrellDCain: I suggest a vote to the floor, to open the competition to other student groups outside of SEDS, the definition of which to be decided on by the [20:01] DarrellDCain: organizing team. With a letter of intent deadline March 1st. Late submissions accepted, but with a fee associated. [20:01] DarrellDCain: it was then put forward by MIT [20:02] DarrellDCain: and seconded by FIT [20:02] DarrellDCain: any thoughts? [20:02] *** hydrogenlithium has left the chat. [20:02] DarrellDCain: /strong opinions? [20:02] DarrellDCain: well..that's one [20:02] Jedi8798: lol [20:02] DarrellDCain: alright...I'll take that as a no [20:02] DarrellDCain: Josh, you can handle that as needed [20:02] DarrellDCain: last item [20:02] DarrellDCain: I have waived chapter updates for this month [20:02] Jedi8798: yup [20:03] Nyeerrmm: sounds reasonable to me [20:03] Nyeerrmm: good recruiting [20:03] DarrellDCain: mainly because the chapter updates for last month were comprehensive enough that there's going to be a lot of repeat if we do it monthly [20:03] DarrellDCain: I have set a date for the next one as March 15th [20:03] DarrellDCain: oh... [20:03] DarrellDCain: one more item [20:03] DarrellDCain: all CoC meetings till Nov. have been scheduled [20:03] DarrellDCain: basically the last Wednesday of every month [20:04] DarrellDCain: except May, in which case we're looking at doing a telecon if enough reps are attending ISDC [20:04] DarrellDCain: that would be on Saturday [20:04] DarrellDCain: I'm done with the floor [20:05] Jedi8798: Ok [20:05] Jedi8798: any questions for Darrell? [20:06] Jedi8798: If not [20:06] Jedi8798: one more item on the floor, ISDC [20:06] Jedi8798: I would like to propose having an in person Exec Board meeting and mid year review [20:06] Jedi8798: possibly the day before ISDC or after [20:06] Jedi8798: Feedback? Who is planning on attending ISDC this year? [20:06] rmmlg08: i will [20:07] DarrellDCain: i will [20:07] Nyeerrmm: i intend to be there [20:07] Nyeerrmm: assuming my job doesnt send me elsewhere [20:07] Jedi8798: LoL [20:07] Jedi8798: assuming [20:07] Jedi8798: Allright [20:07] Jedi8798: We can work out exact scheduling later [20:07] Jedi8798: but I would like to make this a mandatory meeting (after we determine everyone can go) [20:07] Jedi8798: would serve as a good opportunity to discuss and work out issues in SEDS [20:07] Jedi8798: so probably figure the day before or after ISDC [20:08] Jedi8798: reserving for a SEDS retreat or whatnot [20:08] Jedi8798: One final item: choosing a rep for the next CoC meeting [20:08] Jedi8798: Any volunteers? [20:08] Nyeerrmm: i suppose i can [20:09] Jedi8798: Ok [20:10] Jedi8798: All in favor of Brian as CoC rep for next meeting? [20:10] Nyeerrmm: aye [20:10] KellyMann10: aye [20:10] Jedi8798: aye [20:10] rmmlg08: i [20:11] Jedi8798: motion carries, 4-0-1 [20:11] Jedi8798: Brian be sure to check with Darrell about duties and whatnot [20:11] Jedi8798: If there's nothing else, the floor is closed [20:11] Jedi8798: See you all next week. Expect a phone call from me sometime in the next week to discuss positions [20:13] *** Nyeerrmm has left the chat.
