[18:00] Josh Nelson: Calling meeting to order
[18:01] Josh Nelson: Ok, item #1: Web duties
[18:02] Josh Nelson: Chris Lewicki has been trying to break away from managing the web server for some time
[18:02] Josh Nelson: he's been helping with it for almost 2 decades.
[18:03] Josh Nelson: So from now on, if you notice the website is down, or you're having trouble with email, or the listservs
[18:03] Josh Nelson: please send an email to Josh Sosa, with Ryan Mclinko and myself CCed
[18:03] Josh Nelson: If its a problem we cannot fix, we'll ask our 'support team', but we really need to stop relying on Chris and Guy
[18:04] Josh Nelson: Any questions on it?
[18:04] Josh Sosa: is webmaster@seds.org fine too?
[18:04] Rick Hanton: Nope. Sounds good.
[18:04] Josh Nelson: Oh... If you're having trouble with the server, or emails, do NOT send exclusively to webmaster@seds.org
[18:04] Josh Nelson: send to our personal accounts
[18:04] Josh Nelson: because if the server is down
[18:04] Josh Sosa: yeah true if those are down
[18:04] Josh Nelson: we might not get the webmaster@seds.org emails
[18:05] Basant Sagar: has joined the chat
[18:05] Josh Nelson: styx [at] email.arizona.edu, jediarizona [at] yahoo.com, and mclinkor [at] mit.edu
[18:05] Josh Nelson: are our personal addresses
[18:05] Rick Hanton: Has anyone ever thought to set up a way of checking the server periodically?
[18:05] Rick Hanton: Like having another machine ping it periodically?
[18:06] Josh Nelson: The problem being is there are alot of problems
[18:06] Josh Nelson: most of them
[18:06] Josh Nelson: it just takes someone noticing
[18:06] Josh Nelson: If you guys can set up some sort of auto check, great, but when you notice a problem assume we're unaware of it and tell us
[18:07] Josh Nelson: Josh, anything to add?
[18:07] Josh Sosa: yeah, I'll setup with siteuptime.com but it's still imperative to let us know
[18:07] Josh Nelson: On one note, it came up recently posting to the listservs.
[18:08] Josh Nelson: Not all SEDS Exec have posting permissions on the SEDS Chapters listserv
[18:08] Josh Nelson: this is intentional, so the chapter reps don't get spammed every time one of us gets the need to send an email.
[18:08] Josh Nelson: If you send something to the chapters, you should get a "Message awaits moderation" notification
[18:09] Josh Nelson: then one of the Mods will look it over and either approve it, or suggest it be transmitted a different way
[18:09] Josh Nelson: If nothing further, next item: Chapter Survey delay
[18:10] Josh Nelson: I've talked with Steve Brody. ISU is still interested in the SEDS Chapter Awards
[18:10] Josh Nelson: and they're now discussing getting the Women in Aerospace and the AAS to also help host prize awards for SEDS chapters
[18:10] Josh Nelson: They've asked for us to give them a little more time/input on the chapter survey before we send it out
[18:11] Josh Nelson: Given I think this is really cool that we'll have actual prizes to give out with the chapter awards, I don't see a problem delaying the survey slightly. Any thoughts?
[18:11] Grant Atkinson: i'm fine with it
[18:11] Grant Atkinson: and having actual prizes is very cool
[18:12] Rick Hanton: yeah, that's cool
[18:12] Keri Hancock: seems like a good reason to delay
[18:14] Josh Nelson: Cool beans.
[18:14] Josh Nelson: I've an item insert, Rick you want to go?
[18:14] Josh Nelson: I've had* an item inserted*
[18:14] Rick Hanton: Oh, cool.
[18:15] Rick Hanton: OK, well my insert item is that I've asked Matt to help me with an epansion binge as schools start.
[18:15] Rick Hanton: We're planning on sending out a bunch of info on SEDS to schools
[18:15] Ryan McLinko: to what part of schools
[18:15] Rick Hanton: as well as our highly informational expansion kit (thanks to Joshua)
[18:16] Ryan McLinko: students/faculty/student groups...
[18:16] Rick Hanton: I've been working on rifiling around for good places to send these packets to.
[18:16] Josh Nelson: (new version of expansion kit will be done sometime end of August/early september)
[18:16] Rick Hanton: Generally faculty or student groups with a cover letter instructing to send on to students or professors who may be interested.
[18:17] Rick Hanton: I just wanted to know if you guys have any input, thoughts, or specific contacts that we should send out to?
[18:17] Josh Nelson: Will this be physical or digital?
[18:18] Rick Hanton: Physical would be my preference.
[18:18] Rick Hanton: Gets a bit harder look than digital.
[18:18] Rick Hanton: Thoughts?
[18:19] Rick Hanton: Input?
[18:19] Josh Nelson: Will this be done with your guys printer up there?
[18:19] Ryan McLinko: snail mail gets lost...
[18:19] Keri Hancock: I also think that physical would be better if possible
[18:19] Rick Hanton: Well, we need to work out that bit a little.
[18:19] Josh Nelson: and estimated costs?
[18:19] Rick Hanton: I have scanty printer usage (not at school till spring).
[18:20] Rick Hanton: I'll have some cost estimated when I finish off a list of schools to send to.
[18:20] Josh Nelson: Who are you planning on sending to?
[18:20] Rick Hanton: I've been working my way Eastward
[18:20] Josh Nelson: Department heads?
[18:21] Rick Hanton: Generally I have some advisors, deans, department chairs, etc.
[18:21] Rick Hanton: Whoever looks receptive in a given university.
[18:21] Rick Hanton: Unless people have specific persons.
[18:21] Rick Hanton: in mind...
[18:22] Josh Nelson: Just curious :-P
[18:22] Keri Hancock: So, you are planning to send it to all listed, or just one?
[18:23] Rick Hanton: One contact per school.
[18:23] Rick Hanton: Possibly two if thought necessary (eg engineering + physics/astro).
[18:23] Keri Hancock: ok
[18:24] Josh Nelson: K... Sounds good if we can work something out where we're not getting ripped off printing wise
[18:24] Rick Hanton: Yup, will work on that.
[18:24] Josh Nelson: For physical to be worth it, it usually needs to be color, and color can be quite expensive
[18:25] Josh Nelson: K. Anything else for Rick?
[18:27] Josh Nelson: Guess not
[18:27] Josh Nelson: Skipping next item, we'll move on to Rockoon update.. Basant?
[18:27] Basant Sagar: yup
[18:28] Basant Sagar: This week I initiated contacting abt the location: Black Rock
[18:29] Basant Sagar: I now realize that there's no formal body (like say, Black Rock aviation authority) to ask permission from
[18:29] Basant Sagar: so I contacted AeroPAC instead
[18:30] Basant Sagar: who hold launches around June and have previous experience obtaining FAA waivers for others to launch
[18:30] Basant Sagar: they are pretty enthusiastic about the SEDS rockoon contest
[18:30] Basant Sagar: (at least sensing from the first few replies)
[18:31] Basant Sagar: and I'm talking to them about how we can work together
[18:31] Basant Sagar: also,
[18:31] Basant Sagar: I tweaked the sponsorship document a bit (thanks to Ryan who also helped)
[18:31] Basant Sagar: and new sponsor emails will be going out this week
[18:32] Basant Sagar: comments?
[18:32] Grant Atkinson: sounds good
[18:32] Josh Nelson: Remind me after this meeting to pass on the L5 contact to you
[18:32] Keri Hancock: Good to see that they seem to be enthusiastic, what is the next step?
[18:33] Basant Sagar: we'll sort out the terms of our cooperation
[18:33] Basant Sagar: and then, i guess, they'll obtain necessary permissions for us
[18:33] Basant Sagar: yeah, thanks josh
[18:33] Josh Nelson: don't guess,
[18:33] Josh Nelson: we need to work these things out :-)
[18:34] Basant Sagar: haha
[18:34] Josh Nelson: Tis true, too often in projects like these people make assumptions
[18:34] Basant Sagar: i'll have a clear picture this week
[18:34] Josh Nelson: good :-)
[18:35] Josh Nelson: Any more questions for Basant?
[18:36] Grant Atkinson: none here
[18:36] Rick Hanton: nope
[18:36] Josh Nelson: Action Items List. Anyone besides myself not send in their action items list for the end of the summer?
[18:37] Keri Bean: I sent mine! :-)
[18:37] Rick Hanton: Mine R in.
[18:37] Ryan McLinko: even I sent one
[18:37] Basant Sagar: sent mine
[18:37] Josh Nelson: Seriously? Everyone sent them in?
[18:37] Grant Atkinson: sent mine
[18:37] Ryan McLinko: way to failboat josh
[18:37] Josh Nelson: Very nice.
[18:37] Keri Bean: fail whale!
[18:38] Ryan McLinko: that's what I'm here for
[18:38] Basant Sagar: haha
[18:38] Josh Nelson: NOTE FOR BRUCE: Please put all of the action item lists into one document
[18:38] Josh Nelson: Ok, Any miscellaneous items?
[18:38] Grant Atkinson: none from me
[18:39] Keri Bean: I'm good!
[18:39] Josh Nelson: Hmmm if not, time for spot checks on several projects
[18:39] Josh Nelson: Josh S / Rick, how we doing on the new chapters website templates?
[18:39] Josh Sosa: Rick would know more on that front
[18:40] Rick Hanton: I believe 4 are up and running currently.
[18:40] Rick Hanton: They're basically mods of current themes available from wordpress.
[18:41] Rick Hanton: I don't know how many people would like to see.
[18:41] Josh Nelson: It should at least be added to the expansion kit
[18:42] Josh Nelson: and advertised to the new chapters
[18:42] Josh Nelson: when we get them at the beggining of the semester
[18:42] Josh Nelson: have you wrote up a page on the website about the webpages?
[18:42] Josh Nelson: or is there a link they can find out the info?
[18:42] Rick Hanton: Yeah, I could throw together a little pdf or web page about the web space available.
[18:42] Josh Nelson: *nods* please do
[18:42] Rick Hanton: Where do you prefer?
[18:42] Josh Nelson: we should make it part of the website
[18:43] Rick Hanton: Ok, I can do that.
[18:43] Josh Nelson: maybe have a "web" sub section?
[18:44] Josh Nelson: there's alot of web things people might have questions on
[18:44] Josh Nelson: Speaking of, Josh S, you mentioned the twitter feed would be incorporated once we found a better template.... any luck on that?
[18:44] Rick Hanton: yup
[18:45] Josh Sosa: I was looking at solutions to doing that and found one I liked and doesnt require login credentials to be used (many do), but havent gotten around to getting it up yet
[18:46] Josh Nelson: ok, there an ETA on getting it added?
[18:46] Josh Sosa: let's try for by next meeting
[18:47] Josh Nelson: Good
[18:47] Josh Nelson: Ok, next spot check... Keri B? How are the various education projects going?
[18:48] Keri Bean: ok, so while I was in DC last week, I was talking with a 3rd grade teacher who told me about teachertube.com
[18:48] Keri Bean: and I poked around on there, and there's pretty neat, current videos about space topics
[18:48] Keri Bean: most are done by the Challenger Centers
[18:48] Keri Bean: so I don't think we need to worry about that anymore
[18:49] Keri Bean: and if I get any inquiries, I'll point them to that site
[18:49] Keri Bean: and if any of you watched the Augustine committee, I talked about outreach
[18:49] Rick Hanton: Oh, which one?
[18:49] Keri Bean: and afterwards was approached by a few people representing various companies like Lockheed Martin, the Challenger Centers, and some higher ups in NASA
[18:50] Keri Bean: the Aug 5th one in DC
[18:50] Basant Sagar: cool
[18:50] Keri Bean: Lockheed Martin and the Challenger Centers are very interested in helping us out with whatever projects we have coming up, so we could probably get them to sponsor the model building contest and probably Rockoon too
[18:51] Keri Hancock: That would be awesome, did you have a specific contact for that?
[18:51] Keri Bean: I'm still unpacking, but I know I have a card from the Challenger guy
[18:51] Basant Sagar: yup, contact plz
[18:51] Keri Bean: I don't think I got a card from the Lockheed guy, but I did give him my info
[18:52] Keri Bean: I'll send it to you two when I get it out
[18:52] Rick Hanton: Cool, may definately ping that vid to the twitter account when SVC gets it on youtube.
[18:52] Josh Nelson: k, if you remember his name we can find the contact info other ways as well.
[18:52] Ryan McLinko: you'll need to follow up
[18:52] Ryan McLinko: I wouldn't recommend my sv contact with lmco
[18:52] Ryan McLinko: but I think the sv08 one was better; ask brian
[18:52] Keri Bean: k
[18:52] Keri Bean: I have screenshots from my talk
[18:52] Ryan McLinko: otherwise, we can find something out
[18:52] Keri Bean: the video should be up soon
[18:53] Josh Nelson: k, anything else Keri?
[18:53] Keri Bean: that's it from me
[18:53] Josh Nelson: k.
[18:53] Josh Nelson: And I think I'll call that it right now for spot checks tonight :-)
[18:53] Josh Nelson: Thanks all for coming. I'll save transcript and send it to Bruce
[18:53] Josh Nelson: Meeting adjourned.
