(6:28:38 PM) Joshua Nelson: I dont think so, so lets get started.
(6:29:22 PM) Joshua Nelson: First up, Publications
(6:29:36 PM) Joshua Nelson: Want to update us about the progress on the NOVA, brochures, and powerpoint?
(6:30:02 PM) Matt Cannella: sure
(6:30:08 PM) Matt Cannella: so, as you all know from the email
(6:30:15 PM) Matt Cannella: the first draft of Q1 2009 NOVA is complete
(6:30:35 PM) Matt Cannella: i was thinking of trying to compress it, and send it out as a .zip file by the end of the week
(6:30:47 PM) Matt Cannella: please feel free to note any corrections or last minute additions by then
(6:31:27 PM) Matt Cannella: also.... UBSEDS has found some un-tapped resources... apparently University at Buffalo has a fund set up specifically for publishing... we are trying to get a grant approved to buy a printer
(6:31:35 PM) Matt Cannella: for future hard copies of NOVA
(6:31:45 PM) Joshua Nelson: Nice!
(6:31:55 PM) Rick Hanton: That's sweet!
(6:32:01 PM) Matt Cannella: as for brochures, i've made some minor updates to the images that josh sent me
(6:32:23 PM) Matt Cannella: and they are on the groove i have created for seds publications
(6:32:50 PM) Matt Cannella: which anyone can join if they email me
(6:33:13 PM) Rick Hanton: or not if they don't have groove
(6:33:34 PM) Joshua Nelson: Microsoft Groove is free
(6:33:38 PM) Joshua Nelson: just need to download it
(6:33:48 PM) Matt Cannella: right... but josh and i have just talked about setting up a seds.org/publications domain for uploading and sharing files
(6:33:50 PM) Matt Cannella: but for right now, the groove should work
(6:34:19 PM) Matt Cannella: as for the letterhead/powerpoint templates, i have a meeting with a professional graphic artist at UB on wednesday
(6:34:38 PM) Matt Cannella: i have some rough drafts of them, but i want to run it by the pros
(6:34:39 PM) Rick Hanton: MS Groove = 229
(6:34:43 PM) Rick Hanton: $229
(6:34:56 PM) Ryan McLinko: yeah, I thought you had to pay for it
(6:35:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: hmmm
(6:36:11 PM) Rick Hanton: anyhow, back to publications:
(6:36:16 PM) Matt Cannella: right... anywauys
(6:36:41 PM) Matt Cannella: so thats pretty much that
(6:36:50 PM) Matt Cannella: i'm meeting to see if i can improve my drafts
(6:37:03 PM) Matt Cannella: and hope to have them for the board's review next week
(6:37:04 PM) Joshua Nelson: Cool beans, any ETA on the powerpoint slide templates? I'd like to use them for the Space Access presentation
(6:37:14 PM) Matt Cannella: next week.... is that too late?
(6:37:18 PM) Joshua Nelson: thats fine
(6:37:25 PM) Matt Cannella: i can probably get them done by friday if you bug me/email me a bunch
(6:37:26 PM) Matt Cannella: haha
(6:37:41 PM) Joshua Nelson: I'll do worse, sick Darrell on you
(6:37:44 PM) Joshua Nelson: I hear he's bored ;-)
(6:37:55 PM) Joshua Nelson: Thanks Matt.
(6:37:56 PM) Joshua Nelson: Ok,
(6:37:58 PM) Joshua Nelson: next up
(6:37:58 PM) Matt Cannella: anytime
(6:38:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: Zeke, how we doing on Meeting minutes?
(6:38:18 PM) Joshua Nelson: I've gotten complaints that the last two weeks still arent up
(6:38:21 PM) Joshua Nelson: Feb 2 and 9th
(6:39:16 PM) Zeke: Feb. 2nd I'm not sure
(6:39:46 PM) Zeke: Feb. 9th was negligence on my part. I missed the meeting and didn't have the transcript
(6:39:57 PM) Matt Cannella: does anyone else have it?
(6:40:08 PM) Ryan McLinko: already sent to him
(6:40:17 PM) Zeke: yes i have it now. So they should appear before the meeting is over
(6:40:31 PM) Ryan McLinko: the problem is 2/2 since we used the all-so-wonderful seds chat server
(6:40:52 PM) Zeke: yeah, we don't know how to access the transcript
(6:40:55 PM) Ryan McLinko: that's so cute
(6:41:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: I thought I copied that one and sent it to you Zeke
(6:41:10 PM) Joshua Nelson: did I not?
(6:41:27 PM) Zeke: lemme check
(6:41:51 PM) Zeke: nope, I didn't get it.
(6:42:05 PM) Joshua Nelson: k
(6:42:19 PM) Joshua Nelson: Does the chat system keep a transcript?
(6:42:27 PM) Joshua Nelson: Or did we basically lose that meeting?
(6:42:49 PM) Zeke: I'm doubt it does but I think we'd have to check with Josh Sosa
(6:43:02 PM) Ryan McLinko: I would think that it logs it
(6:46:00 PM) Joshua Sosa: seds.org/chat does keep a log
(6:46:14 PM) Ryan McLinko: cool
(6:46:17 PM) Joshua Nelson: cool beans, could you get the transcript of the last session to Zeke? or show him how to access teh log?
(6:47:00 PM) Joshua Sosa: sure thing
(6:47:13 PM) Joshua Nelson: k
(6:47:35 PM) Joshua Nelson: Next up: Server Upgrade
(6:47:51 PM) Matt Cannella: sweet
(6:48:00 PM) Joshua Nelson: So the Phoenix Mission has donated one of their servers to SEDS
(6:48:19 PM) Joshua Nelson: Chris L, Josh S, and others will be working on the transfer of the server materials this upcoming weekend
(6:48:37 PM) Joshua Nelson: What they would like to do is keep the old server as a 'development server'
(6:48:45 PM) Joshua Nelson: where people can design new content for SEDS.org
(6:48:52 PM) Joshua Nelson: without endangering the new server and whats up already
(6:49:00 PM) Joshua Nelson: think of it as a sandbox
(6:49:06 PM) Ryan McLinko: what kind of space are we talking about
(6:49:08 PM) Matt Cannella: maybe we could host publication material on this? as in, a place to keep it while we work on it?
(6:49:09 PM) Ryan McLinko: hdd-wise
(6:49:24 PM) Joshua Nelson: the new server has 2 500 GB hard drives and 8 GB ram
(6:49:31 PM) Ryan McLinko: adn the old one?
(6:49:47 PM) Ryan McLinko: (I should know this)
(6:49:57 PM) Joshua Nelson: Dunno the old one off the top of my head
(6:50:21 PM) Ryan McLinko: 234 GB
(6:50:24 PM) Ryan McLinko: 75% used
(6:50:35 PM) Ryan McLinko: so probably a 250 drive
(6:50:44 PM) Joshua Nelson: k
(6:50:49 PM) Joshua Nelson: so the new server will have plenty of space
(6:50:51 PM) Ryan McLinko: so yeah, using the old one as a test platform sounds like a good idea
(6:50:54 PM) Joshua Nelson: for everything we'll be doing
(6:51:04 PM) Joshua Sosa: yep
(6:51:12 PM) Joshua Nelson: Basically every department has asked me to use the old server as a storage unit for their projects
(6:51:19 PM) Joshua Nelson: but I think the new one has plenty of space
(6:51:49 PM) Joshua Nelson: Josh S, could you set the accounts of all of the execs up with a www.seds.org/officerposition/ folder?
(6:51:58 PM) Joshua Nelson: so they can store things like the podcasts, publications, etc.. there?
(6:52:17 PM) Ryan McLinko: so are these just dropboxes
(6:52:20 PM) Ryan McLinko: or web-viewable
(6:52:22 PM) Joshua Sosa: sure, could everyone send me their username?
(6:52:28 PM) Matt Cannella: random question... how is the podcast coming along anyways?
(6:53:40 PM) Joshua Nelson: off the top of my head, I do not know. Need Keri Bean to give us an update
(6:53:44 PM) Joshua Nelson: but she cant make the next few meetings
(6:53:55 PM) Joshua Nelson: I'll poke her to include it in her update
(6:53:59 PM) Joshua Nelson: So before we finish this...
(6:54:17 PM) Joshua Nelson: The old server also needs an upgrade of its OS
(6:54:30 PM) Joshua Nelson: in order to be a development space for the new server ( which has a more up to date OS on it)
(6:54:39 PM) Joshua Nelson: I think Chris priced this at $250, right Josh?
(6:54:43 PM) Ryan McLinko: so will the new server be darwin too?
(6:55:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: Josh S?
(6:56:04 PM) Zeke: wait I thought Darwin was open source?
(6:57:39 PM) Joshua Nelson: Josh S are you there?
(6:58:27 PM) Rick Hanton: lol
(6:58:31 PM) Joshua Nelson: hmmm
(6:58:35 PM) Joshua Nelson: I am not sure myself
(6:58:42 PM) Joshua Nelson: I'll look that up while we do the next item
(6:58:46 PM) Joshua Sosa: sorry I am predisposed
(6:59:31 PM) Joshua Nelson: Basant, Rockoon updatE?
(6:59:37 PM) Joshua Nelson: how goes the search for sponsors/location?
(6:59:48 PM) Ryan McLinko: okay
(7:00:18 PM) Ryan McLinko: so I 'm working with Keri H to identify possible locations for the contest
(7:00:29 PM) Ryan McLinko: we have a shortlist of 5
(7:01:33 PM) Ryan McLinko: that includes... Aeropac, Black Rock(North Nevada), The Chihuahuan desert
(7:01:58 PM) Ryan McLinko: and a couple of hobbyist sort of sites in the same area
(7:02:15 PM) Ryan McLinko: i havn't formally approached any of them yet
(7:02:40 PM) Ryan McLinko: coz i'm putting all rockoon paperwork for sponsors in order
(7:02:44 PM) Matt Cannella: i hate to ask a stupid question, but are these/have you checked NAR/Tripoli rocket clubs in the area?
(7:02:46 PM) Joshua Nelson: Are we still aiming for the time frame of the conference?
(7:02:59 PM) Ryan McLinko: yeah, we did
(7:03:03 PM) Matt Cannella: kk
(7:03:15 PM) Joshua Nelson: good
(7:03:21 PM) Joshua Nelson: ideally I'd like it to be shortly before
(7:03:26 PM) Joshua Nelson: so we can award it AT the conference
(7:03:27 PM) Joshua Nelson: ;-)
(7:03:30 PM) Ryan McLinko: however, i'm not absolutely sure they are ideal locations
(7:03:32 PM) Ryan McLinko: yup
(7:03:39 PM) Joshua Nelson: but do what you need to get this competition off the ground
(7:03:56 PM) Ryan McLinko: the whole point is to organize the contest close to the conf date
(7:04:01 PM) Joshua Nelson: Ok, keep us posted how it is going
(7:04:05 PM) Joshua Nelson: On the server issue
(7:04:13 PM) Joshua Nelson: the old server is running Mac OS X Server 10.4
(7:04:19 PM) Joshua Nelson: the new one is running 10.5
(7:04:38 PM) Ryan McLinko: how different are the two
(7:04:40 PM) Joshua Nelson: it is ~$250 to upgrade
(7:04:57 PM) Ryan McLinko: figures htat mac would take 250 to go from 10.4 to 10.5
(7:05:25 PM) Joshua Nelson: hmm
(7:05:38 PM) Joshua Nelson: seems like there is also a problem in compatibilities
(7:05:45 PM) Rick Hanton: why mac may I ask?
(7:05:45 PM) Joshua Nelson: since the two servers are different chipsets
(7:06:37 PM) Joshua Nelson: *shrugs* I'm not sure why they chose to use that one in particular
(7:06:44 PM) Ryan McLinko: wouldn't be a lot of effort to put on linux-distro-of-your-choice
(7:06:49 PM) Ryan McLinko: like ubuntu or whatever
(7:07:21 PM) Zeke: I agree I think a linux distro would be better and cheaper
(7:07:36 PM) Ryan McLinko: yay for linux
(7:07:37 PM) Joshua Nelson: We can ask them
(7:07:55 PM) Joshua Sosa: I was thinking the same
(7:08:12 PM) Joshua Nelson: k I'll put this item on hold for right now
(7:08:17 PM) Joshua Nelson: so we can ask Chris and co
(7:08:29 PM) Joshua Nelson: but in the end, since they're the ones putting all of the effort into this
(7:08:36 PM) Joshua Nelson: I do want it to be as easy as possible for them
(7:08:56 PM) Joshua Nelson: Ok, last item
(7:09:01 PM) Joshua Nelson: ISDC Panels
(7:09:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: Ryan, want to update them on this?
(7:09:19 PM) Joshua Nelson: what we have planned so far?
(7:09:21 PM) Ryan McLinko: ok, so as we discussed at the last meeting
(7:09:35 PM) Ryan McLinko: josh and I are putting together a couple of panels for isdc
(7:09:44 PM) Ryan McLinko: josh=how to get involved in space as a student
(7:09:55 PM) Ryan McLinko: me=how to raise money for student projects/organizations
(7:10:09 PM) Ryan McLinko: so we're tring to each get about 5-6 seds studetns for each panel
(7:10:12 PM) Ryan McLinko: and we'll each moderate or something like that
(7:13:59 PM) Joshua Nelson entered the room.

(7:13:59 PM) Matt Cannella entered the room.
(7:14:04 PM) Ryan McLinko: if you have suggestions/other ideas/etc, please let us know
(7:14:18 PM) Ryan McLinko: josh, can paste what you sent me on fri if you want
(7:14:23 PM) Joshua Nelson: k
(7:14:24 PM) Ryan McLinko: (ie the names ideas part)
(7:15:12 PM) Ryan McLinko: For my panel on student involvement opportunities, I am currently thinking of:
SEDS USA: Me
SEDS 'local': One of the big chapter presidents like My-Linh, etc..
Space Grant: Will ask the Florida Space Grant if they have a student who could talk about those opportunities
NASA Academy: Brad probably
Space Gen / Yuri's Night: Undecided, will ask Loretta for a suggestion of a student, maybe Jake?
NASA Missions: Keri Bean (Phoenix)
(7:15:31 PM) Ryan McLinko: and obv we want to split up the panels so that we don't have individual repeats, etc
(7:15:44 PM) Ryan McLinko: any comments at this point?
(7:16:09 PM) Matt Cannella: sounds good
(7:16:30 PM) Ryan McLinko: btw, the me above in josh's panel = josh
(7:17:00 PM) Ryan McLinko: if nothing else, then back to you josh
(7:17:01 PM) Joshua Nelson: k, any last minute items?
(7:17:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: thats all I had for this meeting
(7:17:20 PM) Rick Hanton: The FAcebook ad?
(7:17:34 PM) Joshua Nelson: oh yeah
(7:17:35 PM) Joshua Nelson: sorry
(7:17:37 PM) Joshua Nelson: Go ahead Rick
(7:18:10 PM) Rick Hanton: Well, I have come up with an idea for an Ad on facebook and the cost and all. I'm trying to get it on the web to show you, so hold on a sec.
(7:18:55 PM) Rick Hanton: Darn
(7:19:06 PM) Rick Hanton: I have it in pdf form, but I'm not sure how to share it.
(7:19:13 PM) Ryan McLinko: email?
(7:19:37 PM) Rick Hanton: Sure, I'll just e-mail it out.
(7:19:47 PM) Rick Hanton: Please respond if you have any suggestions.
(7:19:56 PM) Rick Hanton: Know that the number of words is limited.
(7:20:00 PM) Joshua Nelson: k
(7:20:15 PM) Rick Hanton: That's all.
(7:21:05 PM) Joshua Nelson: ok if nothing further...
(7:21:08 PM) Joshua Nelson: meeting adjourned
