(20 32 01 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok getting started
(20 32 29 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: First up.. Over the past few months we have made a number of action items and projects for individuals to handle/work on
(20 32 59 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I'd like to go through each of these and get updates from the people working on them
(20 33 08 ) Keri Hancock entered the room.
(20 33 47 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: First up: SEDS Website Template. Rick, you and Josh Sosa were supposed to be working on this... How is it going?
(20 34 05 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Umm.
(20 34 19 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): What was the idea with that?
(20 34 25 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: A template website for new chapters
(20 34 31 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Oh, right.
(20 34 41 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I will get in touch with Josh about that.
(20 34 58 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Sorry, forgot about that, but I'll do what I can.
(20 35 15 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Darn student government has had me making websites like mad,.
(20 35 19 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: No prob, that is the purpose of this meeting.
(20 35 28 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Reminding people what they've volunteered for and checking progress
(20 36 10 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next up... SEDS Shuttle Launch trip. Ryan, you volunteered to look at member interest and pheasibility of doing a SEDS Shuttle Launch trip. Any progress?
(20 36 33 ) Me: yeah, so...I've heard back from a few people
(20 36 37 ) Me: but not many
(20 36 48 ) Me: it's about time for another mass email about conferences
(20 36 56 ) Matt Cannella: Random suggestion.... maybe we should shoot for the Ares 1X launch? isnt that at the end of the summer?
(20 36 59 ) Me: so in the next week or two, I was planning on hitting hte lists again
(20 37 04 ) Me: is it?
(20 37 19 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I HIGHLY doubt the Ares will be going up end of summer
(20 37 22 ) Grant Atkinson: Ares 1-X depends on when STS-125 flys
(20 37 23 ) Matt Cannella: right
(20 37 28 ) Grant Atkinson: and whether they use the 2 pad or 1 pad option
(20 37 29 ) Matt Cannella: but the "proposed" time
(20 37 29 ) Matt Cannella: haha
(20 37 33 ) Grant Atkinson: so it's very much up in the air
(20 37 34 ) Me: I haven't contacted our launch types yet since I was hoping on getting a better number
(20 38 17 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: *nods* there's one further note about conferences we'll get to later
(20 38 29 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: K, keep us updated with the pheasiblity of such a trip/event
(20 38 35 ) Me: k
(20 39 48 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: SEDS.org Links. Zeke Silva volunteered to check the links in the SEDS.org website. (Note to Zeke: Update us on this progress!)
(20 40 43 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: Contacts for new chapters: Exec Board members were supposed to be reviewing the list of colleges sent out by Rick and letting him know if they knew any students at those schools or contacts... Rick any progress here? Or progress in starting new chapters in general? (20 41 23 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I haven't heard from anyone yet.
(20 41 35 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I have had contact with some possible chapters.
(20 42 07 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): The chapter at St. Louis U just contacted me about getting back in Seds national.
(20 42 22 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I have also had a bit of interest from a student near me at University of Minnesota.
(20 42 47 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Any other good potentials outside of those two schools?
(20 42 48 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I'm working on reaching out to more people, but haven't heard back from many people I have contacted.
(20 42 53 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Not yet.
(20 43 06 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): As stated, time has been an issue for me.
(20 43 34 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: *nods* understood, do the best you can. If necessary, focus your effort on the starting new chapters area
(20 43 44 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: thats the most important focus of chapter expansion
(20 43 48 ) Keri Hancock: what about the proposed facebook ads?
(20 43 59 ) Keri Hancock: when are those going to take place to reach out to more schools?
(20 44 01 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (stealing my next item Keri ;-) )
(20 44 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (j/k)
(20 44 10 ) Keri Hancock: ;-)
(20 44 14 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I could really set those up at any time.
(20 44 29 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): I'm not sure how useful they will be unless we target them specifically.
(20 44 37 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): But if we pay per click it may work well.
(20 44 53 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Simple to make though, because they're just text.
(20 44 58 ) Justin Graves left the room.
(20 45 22 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok, could you come to next weeks meeting with the exact money you want to spend, what text you want to put up, and where you want it to link to?
(20 45 37 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): ok, sure
(20 45 51 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (I would ask the Space Frontier Foundation how they are doing their facebook ads, they are
VERY visible. I'm noticing them all of the time)
(20 45 57 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Thanks Rick
(20 46 06 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (Note the action item for next meeting Z)
(20 46 22 ) Me: specifically, you should ask berin szoka
(20 46 38 ) Justin Graves entered the room.
(20 46 57 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): :-)
(20 47 00 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ryan, could you give him the contact info? (20 47 08 ) Me: k
(20 47 43 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): thx
(20 47 50 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: K
(20 48 10 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: Keri Bean's podcasts/videos (Keri B, please give us an update on these!)
(20 48 33 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: Keri Bean / Doug Mallete's Endowment Video (Keri B, please give us and update on this)
(20 49 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: SEDS.org Projects Page revamp... Basant was supposed to be revamping the projects page. Ryan any idea how that is going?
(20 49 31 ) Me: haven't heard...I'll ping him about it
(20 49 55 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: k, please ask him to update us in his weekly update
(20 50 20 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: SEDS World Map. We discussed the need to update the SEDS World Map with current chapter contact info etc... Given Rick is already overloaded, I'll work on getting this done
(20 50 29 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (Rick I assume you've not gotten to it yet)
(20 50 36 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): No.
(20 50 59 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Wouldn't that be more the Chapter Affairs?
(20 51 05 ) Keri Hancock: might grant be interested in that? sorry, not meaning to force work on u grant ;-)
(20 51 05 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Point
(20 51 11 ) Keri Hancock: haha, rick beat me to it
(20 51 23 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Grant, interested in helping update that info?
(20 51 31 ) Grant Atkinson: sure
(20 51 40 ) Grant Atkinson: i can send out a message about it to the chapter reps
(20 51 49 ) Grant Atkinson: what should I tell them?
(20 51 53 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: k, message me afterward and I'll get you approved to edit it
(20 51 56 ) Grant Atkinson: ok
(20 51 58 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: and we can discuss what we want to go on there
(20 52 23 ) Grant Atkinson: sounds good
(20 52 33 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: Switching SEDS USA bank account over to Justin Graves' name
(20 52 38 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I believe this has just been completed
(20 52 46 ) Justin Graves: yep
(20 53 02 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Any further update on that Justin?
(20 53 16 ) Justin Graves: ahh not really
(20 53 37 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: Updating the contact information on seds.org for monetary transactions to Justin's current address (Justin?)
(20 54 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (sorry for the monotony of this meeting, just trying to drive home the things we've said we're going to do, and get them rolling further)
(20 54 39 ) Justin Graves: i believe that josh took care of that
(20 54 50 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Cool beans. Could you check later tonight to confirm it?
(20 54 59 ) Justin Graves: yep
(20 55 08 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Thanks
(20 55 18 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok and last: Planetary Society MOU
(20 55 43 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I havent heard back from them since I sent them copies of our MOU with other organizations. Will send them a follow up email tonight
(20 56 27 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next: SEDS Powerpoint template and Brochure. Matt?
(20 57 01 ) Matt Cannella: I started a little bit, but nothing finished yet... i'm working on finishing the newsletter first (which i'm almost done with)
(20 57 07 ) Matt Cannella: give me a week, 2 tops
(20 57 40 ) Keri Hancock left the room.
(20 57 58 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: k
(20 58 20 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Any other item that we have commited to completing that you guys would like to see an update on?
(20 58 37 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (can be in anyone's department)
(20 58 38 ) Matt Cannella: One quick thing
(20 58 48 ) Matt Cannella: is there any story that anyone would like to see in the newsletter?
(20 59 02 ) Matt Cannella: i'm finishing up a draft to be sent out to the E-board for review next week
(21 00 05 ) Matt Cannella: I have upcoming conferences, quick blurbs from chapter updates and websites, and a couple articles from explorerfish.com (they are allowing us to use any article as long as we credit it)
(21 00 53 ) Matt Cannella: anything?
(21 01 27 ) Basant Sagar entered the room.
(21 01 29 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: hmmm
(21 01 48 ) Grant Atkinson: i don't have anything in particular
(21 01 50 ) Basant Sagar: hi guys, sorry for dashing in late
(21 01 53 ) Matt Cannella: well, feel free to let me know.
(21 01 56 ) Grant Atkinson: ok
(21 01 59 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Maybe an alumniprofile or article?
(21 02 09 ) Matt Cannella: oooh... alumni profile.. i like that
(21 02 17 ) Matt Cannella: i'll try to add it in time
(21 02 52 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Anything else?
(21 03 59 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: K
(21 04 10 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Could interview a chapter on a project or something.
(21 04 21 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: yeah maybe a project spotlight
(21 04 24 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: type thing
(21 04 38 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: UCF would love to show off their rocket more ;-)
(21 05 30 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok
(21 05 34 ) Keri Hancock entered the room.
(21 05 39 ) Matt Cannella: alright... i doubt i can fit that in by next week, but i'll definitely do it for Q2 newsletter
(21 05 50 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: k
(21 06 08 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Next up: Keri H has an item to discuss regarding her fundraising efforts
(21 06 12 ) Matt Cannella: thanks for the great suggestions :-D
(21 06 51 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Keri?
(21 06 53 ) Keri Hancock: ok, I've got the funding letter finished and would like to set it up for approval
(21 07 10 ) Keri Hancock: I also wanted to ask some advice and questions of the board
(21 07 21 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Go ahead
(21 07 47 ) Keri Hancock: Ryan was kind enough to send me what he used for conference funding in 2007
(21 08 13 ) Keri Hancock: and he had a plan to show what donators got for their donations
(21 08 47 ) Keri Hancock: I was wondering if we should offer somthing small to organizations and individuals
(21 09 12 ) Keri Hancock: like certificates, plaques, a spot on the educators' webpage, etc.
(21 09 28 ) Matt Cannella: my vote is only to the highest level of donors
(21 09 40 ) Matt Cannella: but i think its generally a good idea
(21 10 01 ) Keri Hancock: what does everyone else think?
(21 10 23 ) Grant Atkinson: as long as it's not too expensive i think it's a good idea
(21 10 31 ) Keri Hancock: I was thinking that levels for individuals would be above 20, above 50, and above 100
(21 10 41 ) Rick Hanton (Iowa): Yeah, that would be an ok idea. Maybe if someone donates a lot to the main fund.
(21 10 48 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: guess a special education sponsors section is ok
(21 10 49 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I though the idea behind the education thing was that they got spots on the stuff being given out, like the calenders, etc...
(21 10 55 ) Keri Hancock: small organizations would be maybe like 50, 100, 500, and 1000
(21 11 20 ) Keri Hancock: well, that is an option
(21 11 20 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Because we do try to keep seds.org clear of most other sponsor links besides our affiliates
(21 11 40 ) Keri Hancock: please explain that, I'm not sure I understand what you mean
(21 12 02 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: explain which?
(21 12 38 ) Keri Hancock: who are our affiliates?
(21 12 51 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: SFF, NSS, AAS,
(21 13 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: the big sponsor links you see on the right hand side of seds.org
(21 13 14 ) Keri Hancock: thanks
(21 13 27 ) Keri Hancock: ok, so, is it still an option to pursue other rewards?
(21 13 41 ) Keri Hancock: being consistant with the levels I mentioned previously?
(21 14 29 ) Grant Atkinson: i think it makes sense
(21 14 30 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: *nods* and website recognition is still acceptable, but would need to be limited to a sub page within the education department likely
(21 14 40 ) Basant Sagar: lol
(21 14 42 ) Keri Hancock: which is what I refered to
(21 14 46 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: isnt going to be plastered all over our page for only $20 ;-)
(21 14 53 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: just making sure
(21 14 56 ) Basant Sagar: haha
(21 15 17 ) Keri Hancock: thanks, ya, Joshua got the educators page up!
(21 15 30 ) Keri Hancock: one of the teachers in Colorado complimented it even lol
(21 15 51 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: cool beans
(21 16 00 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Let Josh S know ;-)
(21 16 02 ) Keri Hancock: so, what would constitute a link to that page? also, it would only be offered to donators
(21 16 44 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Might give it to all three, with different options
(21 16 55 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: lowest just get a text line
(21 17 02 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: mid get a small logo
(21 17 08 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: big get a medium logo and link
(21 17 45 ) Keri Hancock: well, I meant 4 levels
(21 17 55 ) Justin Graves left the room.
(21 17 59 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: well you get the idea :-P
(21 18 08 ) Keri Hancock: lol, yes, thank you
(21 18 49 ) Keri Hancock: I thought of other things as well, plaques (sp), certificates mainly for individuals
(21 19 24 ) Keri Hancock: calendar spots are still a big option for organizations for larger donations
(21 19 32 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: for only $20, I think the cost would outweigh the benefit, but maybe especially for the medium to large donations
(21 19 50 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: medium gets a certificate, large gets a framed certificate
(21 19 52 ) Keri Hancock: I meant only for $500 and $1000
(21 19 57 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: ah k
(21 19 59 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: good :-)
(21 20 18 ) Keri Hancock: o, no, that was calendars info, the previous thing u said was correct
(21 21 17 ) Keri Hancock: I was thinking $20 small paper certificate , $50 ribbon, $100 being plaque
(21 22 01 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I'd just eliminate the ribbon and push the paper certificate to $50, $20 just gets our thanks. But thats just my suggestion, go with whatever you think is best.
(21 22 25 ) Keri Hancock: ok, no it makes sense with some of the shipping rates :-)
(21 22 27 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Though this seems to be just a conversation between you and I right now, if no one else has any input, maybe we should discuss it offline and present the packet to teh board next week?
(21 22 49 ) Keri Hancock: ok, guess so lol
(21 22 59 ) Keri Hancock: thought I'd be getting a lot more input lol
(21 23 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: k
(21 23 20 ) Basant Sagar: haha
(21 23 24 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok, one last update
(21 23 29 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: My-Linh has been talking to the conference organizers
(21 23 30 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: of ISDC
(21 23 39 ) Basant Sagar: come up with an official SEDS Sponsorship Benefits document
(21 24 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: and they are interested in doing alot of student sessions
(21 24 19 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: and perhaps having SEDS run the room for these,
(21 24 48 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: and amoung these, have a SEDS presentation or two
(21 25 01 ) Me: sweet
(21 25 31 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: My wants us to push SEDS members to give presentations
(21 25 45 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: So once teh ISDC registration page (for speakers) is up
(21 25 49 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: and we need to propose what SEDS USA talks we want to give
(21 26 00 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: previously we proposed a 'how to get involved as a student' talk
(21 26 19 ) Justin Graves entered the room.
(21 26 20 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: or combining that with a student panel of how to get involved with space as a student
(21 26 34 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: ( And we have approval for a live CoC btw)
(21 26 50 ) Grant Atkinson: coolz
(21 26 55 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: So do you guys still want us to do that? Or are there any other talks/ideas?
(21 26 57 ) Me: if we're looking for other panels, we could easily put together other similar things
(21 27 08 ) Me: like how to get funding for student projects
(21 27 20 ) Me: how to organize student projects (more general)
(21 27 23 ) Me: things of that sort
(21 27 33 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: hmmm
(21 27 37 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: good idea
(21 27 52 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok, so I'm up for organizing the how to get involved in space as a student talk
(21 28 02 ) Me: I think we want panels though
(21 28 07 ) Me: rather than "talks"
(21 28 07 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: talk
(21 28 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: yeah
(21 28 09 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: lol
(21 28 10 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: panel
(21 28 15 ) Basant Sagar left the room.
(21 28 21 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: I said panel above ;-)
(21 28 35 ) Keri Hancock: I like the idea of combining the two
(21 28 43 ) Keri Hancock: if that makes sense to anyone
(21 28 45 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Hmmm, Ryan you want to get together a how to fund student projects panel?
(21 28 53 ) Basant Sagar left the room.
(21 28 54 ) Me: sure
(21 28 58 ) Basant Sagar entered the room.
(21 29 07 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: UCF would definitely be a good place to begin
(21 29 08 ) Keri Hancock: I mean that we should have a series of short talks and then a forum
(21 29 23 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: thats basically what the panels are
(21 29 30 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: at most of these conferences
(21 29 31 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: ;-)
(21 29 48 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: but exact format would probably be left up to teh organizer / panelists
(21 29 55 ) Basant Sagar left the room.
(21 30 07 ) Keri Hancock: thanks :-[
(21 30 07 ) Basant Sagar entered the room.
(21 30 46 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: (outside of Basant's epic fight to stay in the chatroom)
(21 31 18 ) Basant Sagar: aaargghh
(21 31 56 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Ok, if nothing further
(21 32 00 ) Joshua Vincent Nelson: Meeting adjourned
