Jedi8798 (7:55:47 PM): First before we get to the general meeting items
rick12500 (7:55:57 PM): Thanks to Darrell as well
Jedi8798 (7:56:10 PM): The Moon Society is hosting a conference in 2010 in Vegas and they've asked us for ideas on how they can do a student track
aggieastronaut (7:56:26 PM): sweet
Jedi8798 (7:56:36 PM): I've said we'd be thrilled to help, but we need more info on what exactly the conference will entail
Wemewaw27 (7:56:45 PM) has entered the room.
Jedi8798 (7:56:58 PM): this is a great sign though that now space groups are approaching us
Jedi8798 (7:57:01 PM): instead of vice versa
Jedi8798 (7:57:12 PM): So lets keep up the good work!
Jedi8798 (7:57:18 PM): I'll keep you guys updated as they give me more info
aggieastronaut (7:57:21 PM): totally
VonBraunGuy (7:57:32 PM): nice
rick12500 (7:57:41 PM): ok
Jedi8798 (7:57:47 PM): So next item on the agenda: Website 2.0
Jedi8798 (7:58:10 PM): We've made alot of changes to seds.org over the past 2 years. Recently though we've been slowing down to just tweaking it here and there
Jedi8798 (7:58:33 PM): I wanted to get your guys input on where the website is right now, and what should be our next goal
Jedi8798 (7:58:51 PM): For now, lets do this as an open forum style discussion
bsntmath (7:59:05 PM): i'd like to do a makeover of the Projects section
aggieastronaut (7:59:26 PM): well right now, the links at the top (for wiki, gallery, etc.) are not easily seen, at least to me
aggieastronaut (7:59:32 PM): they should be in a more prominent space
missourian612 (7:59:46 PM) has entered the room.
Jedi8798 (7:59:52 PM): Basant, have you asked Josh S about getting access / how you can edit it?
missourian612 (7:59:55 PM): hey, sorry i'm late
bsntmath (8:00:02 PM): also, there's definitely scope for greater web2.0 integration
Jedi8798 (8:00:05 PM): Keri, What do you mean by not visible? What would make them more visible?
rick12500 (8:00:11 PM): Yeah, it would be nice to drop those links to below the SEDS banner at the top.
Jedi8798 (8:00:16 PM): k
missourian612 (8:00:17 PM): im in washington DC for the inauguration
missourian612 (8:00:19 PM): definitely
aggieastronaut (8:00:33 PM): well when I first went to go look for the link to the gallery, it took me 5 minutes to find
Jedi8798 (8:00:34 PM): Allright, what else?
aggieastronaut (8:00:50 PM): they should be on the sides with the other links
rick12500 (8:00:53 PM): There is the issue that the different parts of the website are user-exclusive.
rick12500 (8:01:14 PM): Meaning that if you have a login to the gallery, it is not a login for the wiki.
rick12500 (8:01:20 PM): A solution to that may be difficult though.
Jedi8798 (8:01:26 PM): yeah
missourian612 (8:01:29 PM): right
Jedi8798 (8:01:40 PM): I mentioned it to Josh and he says there would be quite a few problems getting those programs to talk to one another
Jedi8798 (8:01:50 PM): and be compatible
aggieastronaut (8:01:57 PM): another thing I'd like to see is the internship page revamped to something like A&M
aggieastronaut (8:02:02 PM): 's scholarship webpage: http://honors.tamu.edu/Honors/NationalScholarships/preliminaryapp.aspx
Jedi8798 (8:02:24 PM): One thing on the internship page... Do we want that to be available to all viewers? or just SEDS members who are logged in
missourian612 (8:02:27 PM): personally i really like that formate
missourian612 (8:02:30 PM): *format
Jedi8798 (8:02:36 PM): as in like a 'in the know' list of good internships?
missourian612 (8:02:45 PM): i think its way better than the current, half in the forums, half elsewhere format
aggieastronaut (8:03:09 PM): it could really go either way... I don't think there's a consolidated list of internships for space anywhere
missourian612 (8:03:17 PM): Also, i would vote for just SEDS members
Jedi8798 (8:03:24 PM): there are actually quite a few lists
missourian612 (8:03:27 PM): that way it encourages people to join
aggieastronaut (8:03:39 PM): and we should also add a scholarship page in the same format (unless I'm blind and we have one already)
missourian612 (8:03:48 PM): agreed
aggieastronaut (8:03:48 PM): well I know of the list NASA has
aggieastronaut (8:03:53 PM): that's 3757958 pages long
Jedi8798 (8:03:54 PM): no I dont think we have one yet
rick12500 (8:04:44 PM): We might also make the "chapters" section a little more interesting.
aggieastronaut (8:04:48 PM): if it can be done relatively soon, I'd like the IYA student page to link to a SEDS page that's easier for me to mess with
rick12500 (8:04:59 PM): Maybe have a map of the globe with countries click-able.
Jedi8798 (8:05:11 PM): Keri, talk to Josh Sosa about getting one easier for you to have access to
Jedi8798 (8:05:20 PM): we could also give you a seds.org subdomain
Jedi8798 (8:05:24 PM): that you could build from scratch
aggieastronaut (8:05:30 PM): that would work
Jedi8798 (8:05:34 PM): Rick, I like that idea
Jedi8798 (8:05:43 PM): actually,
Jedi8798 (8:05:51 PM): we could combine that with our current SEDS Earth map
VonBraunGuy (8:05:52 PM): some of the chapter information is out of date as well
Jedi8798 (8:06:12 PM): and offer it in list, or map form
missourian612 (8:06:17 PM): isnt it easy to integrate links into a google earth/google maps map?
bsntmath (8:06:32 PM): yup
missourian612 (8:06:35 PM): and then we could just have links or contact info appended to each chapter in other countries
Jedi8798 (8:07:53 PM): Cool beans
Jedi8798 (8:07:57 PM): ok this gives us some working points...
Jedi8798 (8:08:13 PM): I definetly want to get each of you more actively involved in your section of the website if at all possible
Jedi8798 (8:08:27 PM): while working within the frame of the user interfaces etc.. that Josh Sosa has established
Jedi8798 (8:08:50 PM): I'll write up these website suggestions in an email to him and see what we can do
VonBraunGuy (8:08:55 PM): sounds goo
VonBraunGuy (8:08:55 PM): d
rick12500 (8:08:57 PM): What is the design of the website based off of?
rick12500 (8:09:02 PM): Just curious.
Jedi8798 (8:09:12 PM): Rick, I'm not sure
Jedi8798 (8:09:21 PM): Something to approach Josh about.
rick12500 (8:09:34 PM): ok
Jedi8798 (8:09:50 PM): Any other items for tonights meeting? I've been busy with Grad School stuff and wasnt able to prepare much for this meeting
missourian612 (8:10:04 PM): i have one thing
missourian612 (8:10:06 PM): quick
Jedi8798 (8:10:12 PM): Go ahead
missourian612 (8:10:18 PM): do we know if the upcoming ASX conference is on our calendar?
missourian612 (8:10:25 PM): University at Buffalo SEDS is attending it
missourian612 (8:10:33 PM): its a short conference in toronto on friday
Jedi8798 (8:10:43 PM): No I dont know, you should send Ryan McLinko an email to make sure he knows and adds it
aggieastronaut (8:11:07 PM): and a quick note that I updated the IYA student page today
Jedi8798 (8:11:08 PM): while it is too late of notice for most of us, MIT SEDS might be able to go
missourian612 (8:11:09 PM): will do
missourian612 (8:11:12 PM): right
bsntmath (8:11:26 PM): when is it?
missourian612 (8:12:02 PM): friday from 6pm-11pm
missourian612 (8:12:17 PM): i know anoush ansari is speaking, as well as a CSA robotic arm operator
Jedi8798 (8:12:28 PM): 5 hours? not much of a conference
bsntmath (8:12:33 PM): oh! the one in Toronto
bsntmath (8:12:46 PM): nope, we decided not to go
missourian612 (8:12:53 PM): ok
aggieastronaut (8:13:14 PM): oh one more thing
aggieastronaut (8:13:24 PM): will any of you have some free time this week to help me?
missourian612 (8:13:27 PM): just thought i'd let everone be aware
missourian612 (8:13:50 PM): i will thursday night or saturday (if saturday is not too late)
missourian612 (8:13:53 PM): whats up?
aggieastronaut (8:13:58 PM): I need help writing the video podcast scripts... I've been too busy to write them :\
aggieastronaut (8:14:08 PM): as long as they're done by the end of the month
rick12500 (8:14:20 PM): Which ones?
VonBraunGuy (8:14:26 PM): let me know what you need and i should be able to help you
aggieastronaut (8:15:00 PM): well, Kyle from UA said he'd finish his tonight
missourian612 (8:15:01 PM): I'll make sure i'm on AIM
aggieastronaut (8:15:05 PM): and I haven't heard from my other helper
missourian612 (8:15:06 PM): message me whenever you see me on
aggieastronaut (8:15:16 PM): I've got Mars, Saturn, Saturn's moons, the Sun, and Pluto/KBOs
VonBraunGuy (8:15:52 PM): do you have outlines for what you want these to include already?
rick12500 (8:15:53 PM): I can help towards the end of the week if you need me.
VonBraunGuy (8:15:56 PM): or are they pretty open?
rick12500 (8:16:09 PM): Yeah, it would help if I had an idea of what it should be.
aggieastronaut (8:16:14 PM): I have general ideas of what needs to be in them, but no outlines or anything
rick12500 (8:16:24 PM): Have you written 1 yet?
VonBraunGuy (8:16:25 PM): ok
aggieastronaut (8:16:33 PM): basically 5-10 minutes (typically one page = one minute)
VonBraunGuy (8:16:53 PM): alright
aggieastronaut (8:17:34 PM): cover the basic properties of things like planet order, gravity, any atmosphere or moons, briefly mention spacecraft that have been/flew by, etc.
Jedi8798 (8:17:40 PM): Alright,
aggieastronaut (8:17:49 PM): I have minions to help find photos/videos
Jedi8798 (8:18:14 PM): If everyone interested in helping with the scripts could IM Keri outside of this window
Jedi8798 (8:18:21 PM): we'll wrap up the meeting
VonBraunGuy (8:18:47 PM): a'ight
VonBraunGuy (8:19:01 PM): good luck with classes this semester!
Jedi8798 (8:19:09 PM): If there are no further items, meeting adjourned.
