[18:26] Jedi8798: Any additional updates, please let me know and they'll be added to the agenda
[18:28] rmmlg08: has joined the chat
[18:30] rick12500: has joined the chat
[18:30] rick12500: Hey
[18:31] Jedi8798: Yo
[18:31] Jedi8798: give it till __:35 to see if anyone else shows up
[18:31] Jedi8798: the main items for tonight of course involve people not here...
[18:32] VonBraunGuy: lol
[18:32] rmmlg08: which is mainly a manifestation of "it's not the first three meetings anymore"
[18:33] rick12500: Well, I don't know. Are you guys still on break or not? (I am)
[18:33] Jedi8798: I am for another 2 weeks.
[18:33] rick12500: Maybe people are settling into new semesters, or whatnot.
[18:33] rick12500: Nice Josh!
[18:34] Jedi8798: no, Keri H and Zeke have the same vacation schedule as us
[18:34] evilmonkeynorm: more like a week
[18:35] Jedi8798: is it down to a week already?
[18:35] evilmonkeynorm: next wed
[18:35] Jedi8798: hmmm damn... time flies when you're on Mars
[18:35] rick12500: Nice.
[18:35] evilmonkeynorm: hehe
[18:35] VonBraunGuy: lol
[18:35] VonBraunGuy: even with the longer year, eh?
[18:36] VonBraunGuy: my first day of new classes is two weeks from today
[18:36] VonBraunGuy: Keri B's as well
[18:36] rick12500: Mine are 1 week from today. Argh!
[18:37] Jedi8798: ok lets get started
[18:38] Jedi8798: We'll skip the IYA2009 and High School affairs items
[18:38] Jedi8798: given both Keris are missing
[18:38] bsntmath: lol
[18:38] Jedi8798: Ryan, any progress on SEDS conference plans?
[18:39] rmmlg08: not too much
[18:39] rmmlg08: for the near term
[18:40] rmmlg08: I've been trying to get a behind-the-scenes tour for the f9 launch
[18:40] rmmlg08: for seds students who will be there
[18:40] rmmlg08: (difficult since we don't know when it will be)
[18:40] rmmlg08: and about to cotnact the isdc people
[18:40] rmmlg08: along those lines, do you know who is NSS we contacted last year
[18:40] rmmlg08: I seem to have forgotten
[18:41] rmmlg08: o/w I was just going to email george
[18:41] Jedi8798: I believe we contacted George and he forwarded us onto the planning group [18:41] Jedi8798: but I could be mistaken
[18:41] rmmlg08: I'll just do that then
[18:41] Jedi8798: but since we know the conference organizer
[18:41] Jedi8798: you might want to email Tim Bailey
[18:41] Jedi8798: with George and Gary cced
[18:41] rmmlg08: k
[18:42] rmmlg08: but those are the main items on the radar right now
[18:42] Jedi8798: On the SEDS events note, Ryan Kolbrick has been encouraging the idea of a planned SEDS shuttle launch trip
[18:42] rmmlg08: (conf plannign wise)
[18:42] rmmlg08: when is the launch supposed to be
[18:43] Jedi8798: he didnt specify any specific launch
[18:43] Jedi8798: though he mentioned he was going to the February launch
[18:43] rmmlg08: that's what I would assume
[18:43] VonBraunGuy: if STS-125 launches as it's currently scheduled to it will be about a week before ISDC
[18:44] rmmlg08: hmm
[18:44] VonBraunGuy: A&M is tentatively planning on making a trip to see that
[18:44] Jedi8798: Yeah 125 I think is the best bet
[18:44] VonBraunGuy: along with ISDC
[18:44] Jedi8798: problem is it lies during alot of peoples finals
[18:44] VonBraunGuy: yeah that's true
[18:44] VonBraunGuy: but it would be good to get whoever could go
[18:44] rmmlg08: well, I'll look into that
[18:44] VonBraunGuy: with it being that close to ISDC
[18:44] Jedi8798: Lets pursue it right now
[18:45] Jedi8798: and see who would be interested in going
[18:45] Jedi8798: I know we've gotten offers of behind the scene tours and stuff for shuttle launches in teh past
[18:45] Jedi8798: but havent found people to take advantage of them
[18:45] rmmlg08: yeah, I'll send an email out about f9 and shuttle
[18:45] rmmlg08: and start worrking strings on shuttle
[18:46] VonBraunGuy: i know there's interest here about the shuttle
[18:46] VonBraunGuy: i'll mention the F9 launch
[18:46] Jedi8798: before we start pulling strings Ryan
[18:46] Jedi8798: lets see who would be interested
[18:46] rmmlg08: yeah, sure
[18:47] Jedi8798: get a preliminary set of numbers together
[18:47] bsntmath: yup
[18:47] Jedi8798: I can contact Pete Worden and see if his previous offer is still valid
[18:47] Jedi8798: Shal we briefly brainstorm ideas for what we'd like to aim for with a SEDS shuttle launch attendance?
[18:48] Jedi8798: Behind the scenes tours of course would be nice
[18:49] Jedi8798: other ideas?
[18:49] rick12500: I could use it to try to entice other Florida-area schools.
[18:49] rick12500: To join SEDS of course!
[18:49] Jedi8798: as in, start a SEDS chapter and you can attend this event? [18:50] VonBraunGuy: maybe we could look into doing dinner with an astronaut after the launch as a group
[18:50] VonBraunGuy: see if we could get a group discount
[18:50] Jedi8798: yeah, would depend on number of students of course
[18:51] rick12500: Maybe that or maybe, trying to get people to come see what we're all about so that they decide to found a chapter.
[18:51] rmmlg08: group discount?
[18:51] Jedi8798: and the demand on the Astronauts, most of them have launch/mission duties
[18:51] rmmlg08: if you mean the official thing
[18:51] rmmlg08: we could much easier get an astronaut that is friedly toward seds
[18:51] rmmlg08: and organize something that way
[18:51] rmmlg08: for free
[18:51] Jedi8798: Someone please invite Wemewaw27, she's not getting my invites for some reason
[18:51] VonBraunGuy: that would be good too
[18:51] VonBraunGuy: i was talking about the official event though
[18:52] rmmlg08: I get "not supported by client"
[18:52] rmmlg08: well, we went to one of those "lunch with an astronaut" things
[18:52] rmmlg08: when I was down there for a competition
[18:52] rmmlg08: and it was pretty subpar
[18:52] bsntmath: haha
[18:52] rmmlg08: the prof we went with got us in for free (since he's a 4-time astronaut)
[18:52] VonBraunGuy: my family and i went to one after the sts-124 launch
[18:52] VonBraunGuy: it could've been better but i thought it was still pretty interesting
[18:53] Jedi8798: there's also the possibility
[18:53] Jedi8798: of doing a SEDS launch beach party
[18:53] Jedi8798: ors omething along those lines
[18:53] Jedi8798: if we cant be on site at KSC
[18:53] rmmlg08: we enjoyed the lunches/dinners we had with an astronaut the rest of the trip
[18:53] VonBraunGuy: we could do that too
[18:53] rick12500: I've never been to one.
[18:53] VonBraunGuy: but the closer we are to the launch the better it will be
[18:53] rick12500: Too darn far away
[18:54] VonBraunGuy: the viewing area at KSC is fairly distant already
[18:54] VonBraunGuy: i was surprised be how quiet the shuttle was
[18:54] Jedi8798: yeah the KSC public viewing area sucks
[18:54] Jedi8798: been there twice for launches
[18:54] Jedi8798: (course none that went up)
[18:55] VonBraunGuy: hopefully we'll have more luck with this one
[18:55] Jedi8798: My-Linh says the UCF SEDS people know of some nice spots to watch from
[18:55] Jedi8798: if we cant be on site
[18:56] Jedi8798: So lets close this item for now
[18:56] Jedi8798: Ryan, poll interest and see what type of numbers we'd be dealing with
[18:56] rmmlg08: yep
[18:56] Jedi8798: if its a dozen or so we could probably get into the VIP area, if its more we might have to do something else
[18:56] Jedi8798: k
[18:56] Jedi8798: Next, meetings in 2009
[18:57] Jedi8798: Same day/time? or different?
[18:57] rmmlg08: same is fine
[18:57] VonBraunGuy: same time would work fine for me
[18:57] Jedi8798: personally the current time will be annoying for me once telescope starts once more.
[18:57] bsntmath: yeah, same
[18:57] Wemewaw27: has joined the chat
[18:57] Wemewaw27: has left the chat
[18:58] Wemewaw27: has joined the chat
[18:58] Wemewaw27: has left the chat
[18:58] Jedi8798: Keri, we're currently discussing meeting day/time for next semester
[18:58] VonBraunGuy: what time would be better?
[18:58] rick12500: Is she in here yet?
[18:58] Jedi8798: moving it a half hour earlier would be amazing, but Ryan had conflicts earlier
[18:58] rmmlg08: no, she seems to keep getting kicked
[18:58] rmmlg08: yeah, this is about as early as I can do
[18:58] Jedi8798: k
[18:58] VonBraunGuy: either way would work for me
[18:59] rick12500: I'm fine with current time/date
[18:59] Jedi8798: so I guess we'll keep it the same and I'll just deal
[18:59] Wemewaw27: has joined the chat
[18:59] Jedi8798: K
[19:00] Jedi8798: Keri, can you hear me?
[19:00] Wemewaw27: yep! finally
[19:00] Jedi8798: Yay, grats
[19:00] Jedi8798: Ok, as last meeting item, could you go over whats been going on with High School affairs?
[19:02] Wemewaw27: I appologize but it's really been on hold since: the high schools were doing finals, then went on break (along with most high school oriented organizations),
[19:02] Wemewaw27: and I myself have majorly been slacking due to some serious issues in my personal life I do apologize for
[19:02] Jedi8798: No problem
[19:02] Jedi8798: just checking.
[19:02] Jedi8798: k, anyone else have any updates or items for today?
[19:02] rick12500: I have a couple.
[19:02] Jedi8798: Go ahead
[19:03] rick12500: 1. Zeke should look at the links part of the website. Some are old and dead. (spacealumni for one)
[19:03] rick12500: 2. If you guys have any time, please look through http://topratings.wordpress.com/2007/08/31/top-100-americas-best-colleges-2008/
[19:04] rick12500: And see if you know any space-interested people at the various colleges that might possibly think of starting a SEDS chapter.
[19:04] rick12500: Let me know if you have any ideas!
[19:04] rick12500: Thanks.
[19:05] Jedi8798: No prob. How have the efforts been going so far?
[19:05] Wemewaw27: Is there a way we can use the best colleges info for facebook advertising?
[19:05] rick12500: If we have funding for it, yeah. Maybe.
[19:05] rick12500: I should probably look to facebook more as a contact medium. I have only used e-mails so far.
[19:06] bsntmath: you could target specific colleges
[19:06] rick12500: I am targeting specific colleges. As well as trying to catch up with what colleges my predecessor was working on.
[19:06] bsntmath: like when we are planning on getting a chapter at college X, we should advertise on their network
[19:07] Jedi8798: We do have some limited national funds. How much do things like facebook ads cost?
[19:07] rick12500: True. But we need a few core people to actually start the group before we do that probably.
[19:07] Jedi8798: yeah
[19:07] rick12500: I'll look into the cost of targeted ads.
[19:07] Wemewaw27: As I believe, facebook is still relatively inexpensive
[19:08] Wemewaw27: during the conference I was told they run as low as $30 per 100, unless my numbers are way off from memory lol
[19:08] Jedi8798: Well lets look into it and see
[19:08] Jedi8798: personally I'm not sure they're worth the money (I dont even look at the ads)
[19:09] Jedi8798: but its worth doing research
[19:09] Jedi8798: Any other items for tonight?
[19:09] rick12500: It looks like a bidding system. With $5 min per day.
[19:10] Jedi8798: meaning?
[19:10] rick12500: I'll get back to you.
[19:10] Wemewaw27: either a great deal or a horrible one, depending on the day and system?
[19:11] rick12500: Basically.
[19:11] Jedi8798: allright
[19:11] Jedi8798: if you could let us know next meeting?
[19:11] rick12500: sure
[19:12] Jedi8798: So we're meeting next Monday. Same time, same place. I'll send out an agenda early. Would like to make it a fairly comprehensive meeting of our plans for this upcoming semester
[19:12] Jedi8798: given its the last meeting before most of us go back to school
[19:12] rick12500: Some.
[19:13] Jedi8798: If there's nothing else, meeting adjourned
[19:13] bsntmath: gd night guys
[19:13] VonBraunGuy: ttyl
[19:13] VonBraunGuy: have a good rest of the break!
[19:13] Wemewaw27: good night everyone, enjoy the freedom while you can
[19:13] VonBraunGuy: lol, indeed
