[20:15] Joshua Nelson: Ah well. Lets get started

[20:15] *** Grant Atkinson has left the chat.

[20:16] Joshua Nelson: First up, Rick has two items

[20:16] Joshua Nelson: 1) SEDS Logo redesign

[20:16] Joshua Nelson: and 2) SEDS Shop

[20:16] *** Ryan McLinko has joined the chat.

[20:16] Rick Hanton: OK, well I had a few things I was thinking about last week.

[20:17] Rick Hanton: First of all, I was kind of happy and sad that apparently SpaceVidcast thought the SEDS logos were so bad

[20:17] Rick Hanton: or couldn't find them.

[20:17] Rick Hanton: So they basically represented SEDS with the UCF logo design.

[20:17] Rick Hanton: Anyhow, this brings to the front the fact that our logo probably needs a little bit of a touch-up.

[20:18] Rick Hanton: Now, I don't know if Matt has the skills for this, but someone should probably work on it sometime soonish.

[20:18] Joshua Nelson: If I may,

[20:18] Rick Hanton: Yes.

[20:18] Joshua Nelson: This comes up every 2-3 years

[20:18] Joshua Nelson: and we always vote it down

[20:18] Rick Hanton: Glad you're so old Josh.

[20:18] Joshua Nelson: It is VERY bad to rebrand

[20:18] Joshua Nelson: without specific reason

[20:19] Joshua Nelson: We have alot of recognition with our current logo

[20:19] Joshua Nelson: the blue fire wire

[20:19] Joshua Nelson: and there are some nice versions out there of it

[20:19] Joshua Nelson: http://quest.nasa.gov/projects/spacewardbound/partners/seds.jpg

[20:20] Joshua Nelson: While it might be nice to make some nice rez pretty versions

[20:20] Rick Hanton: Ok, that's nice, but do we have that hi-res?

[20:20] Joshua Nelson: we should stay with the traditional fire wire unless there's good reason to move away

[20:20] Rick Hanton: Oh, definately agreed!

[20:20] Joshua Nelson: Rick - I do not have a high rez copy of that specific one, though I do have high rez copies of the SEDS blue logo by itself

[20:20] Rick Hanton: I'm just asking if we are willing to do a little bit of updating to get a nice-looking high-rez version.

[20:21] Joshua Nelson: That I agree with, but we should stay with the blue fire wire unless we have VERY good reason.

[20:22] Josh Sosa: higher res than the 2482x841 one in the gallery?

[20:22] Joshua Nelson: I think he means higher rez of a pretty background version

[20:22] Rick Hanton: Well just the letters is very plain.

[20:22] Joshua Nelson: like the link I gave

[20:22] Rick Hanton: That's my main point.

[20:22] Joshua Nelson: the letters, with a background

[20:22] Josh Sosa: I see

[20:23] Rick Hanton: Yeah, if we can bring the pic josh pointed to up to a large version basically that is all I'm asking about.

[20:23] Rick Hanton: Any skill in that area Josh S?

[20:23] Joshua Nelson: Which I agree with, would be useful

[20:23] Joshua Nelson: Other thoughts?

[20:24] Rick Hanton: I think I could do that with a bit of time or effort, but I'm pretty busy these days.

[20:24] Rick Hanton: Thoughts???

[20:24] Joshua Nelson: We can at minimum put it on our "To Do" list

[20:24] Joshua Nelson: and see if we can find someone

[20:25] Rick Hanton: Ok cool.

[20:25] Josh Sosa: are you thinking of some graphic to go with the actual seds logo?

[20:25] Joshua Nelson: Yes in the background to make it more visually appealing

[20:26] Joshua Nelson: I'll get out of Josh mode and let Rick answer your questions

[20:26] Rick Hanton: Or at least a background like the picture Josh pointed to.

[20:26] Rick Hanton: That's all I was putting in my wish list.

[20:26] Josh Sosa: as long as it's something created by us ourselves

[20:26] Josh Sosa: and not pulled from another site

[20:26] Rick Hanton: And then having that in the gallery. And maybe clearing out or moving some of the junkier versions from that gallery while we're at it.

[20:27] Joshua Nelson: should archive the junkier versions

[20:27] Joshua Nelson: or move them to a different folder in the logos section

[20:27] Joshua Nelson: please don't just trash older stuff

[20:27] Joshua Nelson: Have a 'good logos' and a 'older logos' section

[20:27] Joshua Nelson: the trash of today could give people tommorow ideas

[20:28] Joshua Nelson: its because people trashed stuff that we dont have a higher rez version of the SEDS Explore or Die TShirt

[20:28] Joshua Nelson: Sounds like Josh S and Rick are the two most interested in working on this

[20:28] Joshua Nelson: could you two discuss offline?

[20:28] Rick Hanton: Tjat

[20:28] Josh Sosa: sure

[20:28] Rick Hanton: Sorry, that's what I was speaking of Josh.

[20:28] Joshua Nelson: k, your next item Rick?

[20:29] Rick Hanton: I don't trash things.

[20:29] Rick Hanton: Ever.

[20:29] Rick Hanton: Ok, item 2.

[20:29] Rick Hanton: Just looking at one of the things I'd love to see from SEDS occasionally.

[20:30] Rick Hanton: While I know all the local chapters make t-shirts and whatever, do you think it would be useful to have a little SEDS store on the site (linked)

[20:30] Rick Hanton: to provide national SEDS gear or more options to put the SEDS logo on stuff?

[20:31] Rick Hanton: Just knowing that there are places out there that let you set up shop for basically no operating cost, it seemed like a decent idea.

[20:31] Rick Hanton: Any thoughts?

[20:31] Joshua Nelson: How is the quality? I've used a few of those sites, and some can be great, while others are horrible

[20:32] Rick Hanton: My recommendation was actually something like http://rickhanton.spreadshirt.com/us/US/Shop/

[20:32] Rick Hanton: But I haven't tested their quality of shirts yet.

[20:33] Rick Hanton: Anyhow, is anyone at least interested in exploring the concept?

[20:33] Josh Sosa: I think it's a good idea

[20:33] Joshua Nelson: I agree it is a good idea to look into. Of course pending getting better resolution logos and confirming the 501c3 status

[20:33] Rick Hanton: Yeah.

[20:34] Rick Hanton: Where are we on 501c3?

[20:34] Joshua Nelson: 501c3 is fine

[20:34] Basant Sagar: and selling branded SEDSJedi lightsabres

[20:34] Joshua Nelson: I'll give an update after your item is done

[20:36] Rick Hanton: Yeah.

[20:36] Rick Hanton: So any other thoughts from the peanut gallery?

[20:37] Rick Hanton: OK, I guess not.

[20:38] Joshua Nelson: k

[20:38] Rick Hanton: I do have one more quick item Josh.

[20:38] Joshua Nelson: Go ahead

[20:38] Rick Hanton: It's a me/Justin thing actually.

[20:38] Rick Hanton: So, we cannot currently track down whether or not St. Louis University SEDS sent in their Dues.

[20:39] Rick Hanton: Records were bad etc.

[20:39] Justin Graves: i think it might have occurred at some point during the transition

[20:39] Rick Hanton: So in the case that they provide all the other documentation, and because they do claim that the dues were sent, I propose a vote to give them the benefit of the doubt on dues.

[20:40] Rick Hanton: (FYI, SLU SEDS is a chapter that just hasn't communicated with nationals for a while)

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: Quick question to Justin,

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: or Rick too

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: Did they claim paying via check/envelope?

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: or Paypal?

[20:41] Rick Hanton: I have not checked on that specifically.

[20:41] Justin Graves: dunno either

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: either way there should be a record, of the check being deposited

[20:41] Joshua Nelson: or the paypal transaction

[20:41] Rick Hanton: Not sure they are going to have a recollection on their end.

[20:42] Rick Hanton: Justin?

[20:42] Justin Graves: I haven't look at paypal

[20:42] Joshua Nelson: Can you ask them which they used, and if they can provide the check number or paypal transaction number?

[20:42] Joshua Nelson: if so its easy to track...

[20:42] Justin Graves: yeah

[20:42] Rick Hanton: Ok.

[20:42] Justin Graves: i just need contacts for SLU

[20:43] Rick Hanton: I tried to contact them a few days ago and had no response. They're off and on.

[20:43] Rick Hanton: I will do that and we will go from there. Thanks!2

[20:43] Joshua Nelson: k

[20:43] Joshua Nelson: Ok

[20:43] Joshua Nelson: next up: 501c3

[20:43] Joshua Nelson: So Darrell sat down with his Dad and our Lawyer

[20:44] Joshua Nelson: We've got a bunch of action items as a result

[20:44] Joshua Nelson: but I'd like to summarize the key ones here

[20:44] Joshua Nelson: 1) We must follow the word of the constitution / bylaws. Where the two conflict we must make changes.

[20:44] Joshua Nelson: 2) Changes to bylaws just need to be sent to our lawyer

[20:46] Joshua Nelson: 3) Multiple ways for Chapters to receive money, but no matter which method we use, it is very important records AND receipts are kept

[20:46] Joshua Nelson: one way that we might do this is vote to create special accounts for each chapter to use as 501c3 accounts

[20:46] Joshua Nelson: but for every transaction we must keep the receipts, of both money received, and money spent, as well as an explaination of the donation/expense

[20:47] Joshua Nelson: The other way is to use our central account as a funnel

[20:47] Joshua Nelson: but that will create alot of logistic nightmares

[20:47] Joshua Nelson: Either way, Justin's job is about to get alot busier

[20:48] Joshua Nelson: We've set up a telecon tommorow with the lawyer to go over some of these items

[20:48] Joshua Nelson: I've another... 2 pages of notes

[20:48] Joshua Nelson: but any questions?

[20:48] Joshua Nelson: I can send out an email with most of the key bullets

[20:48] Basant Sagar: email will be fine

[20:49] Joshua Nelson: k.

[20:49] Joshua Nelson: I've asked Grant about the Secretary Elections

[20:49] Joshua Nelson: The elections emails did not go out on Wednesday despite our resolution

[20:49] Joshua Nelson: Josh, I believe from your email, your system is ready to go, correct?

[20:50] Josh Sosa: yep

[20:50] Joshua Nelson: Please send Grant any info he needs to use the system

[20:50] Josh Sosa: I sent grat multiple emails about it

[20:50] Rick Hanton: Can we get him to do that tonight or tomorrow?

[20:50] Joshua Nelson: k

[20:50] Josh Sosa: grant*

[20:50] Joshua Nelson: I agree Rick, and have told Grant accordingly

[20:51] Joshua Nelson: Ok, one last item, NewSpace 2009

[20:51] Joshua Nelson: Given the number of SEDS USA members attending (and 5 from SEDS UK) I think it is worthwhile for us to co-sponsor another hospitality suite at NewSpace 2009

[20:52] Joshua Nelson: Will Watson has already volunteered $200 towards the hospitality suite

[20:52] Ryan McLinko: via us

[20:52] Joshua Nelson: I propose we match what we did for ISDC

[20:52] Joshua Nelson: with another $150

[20:52] Joshua Nelson: Thoughts? Opinions?

[20:52] Josh Sosa: sounds good

[20:53] Rick Hanton: Ok, sounds like a plan.

[20:53] Justin Graves: i agree

[20:54] Joshua Nelson: I also still need to get the money from SEDS USA for the last donation

[20:54] Joshua Nelson: Still have a $200 hole in my bank account from that ($150 from SEDS USA and $50 from a chapter who will not be named ;-) )

[20:54] Justin Graves: yeah I was going to ask about that

[20:54] Basant Sagar: mystery

[20:54] Justin Graves: sine will deposit just showed up

[20:55] Justin Graves: *since

[20:55] Joshua Nelson: the $200 deposit is for the hospitality suite

[20:55] Joshua Nelson: so we need to touch base on how to best transfer the money Justin

[20:55] Joshua Nelson: But before that

[20:55] Joshua Nelson: All in favor of a SEDS USA hospitality suite at NewSpace2009, with SEDS USA donating $150?

[20:56] Rick Hanton: Aye.

[20:56] Justin Graves: aye

[20:56] Joshua Nelson: (Aye/Nay/Abstain)

[20:56] Josh Sosa: aye

[20:56] Ryan McLinko: i

[20:56] Joshua Nelson: 6-0-0

[20:56] Joshua Nelson: vote carries

[20:57] Joshua Nelson: K, Justin lets talk afterward about what would be easiest, since I now need $500 from SEDS USA... ($150 from ISDC, $200 from the Will Donation, $150 from this vote)

[20:57] Joshua Nelson: Any additional items?

[comments removed]

[20:58] Ryan McLinko: I think we should remove that part from the xscript

[20:58] Basant Sagar: haha

[20:58] Joshua Nelson: All in favor of removing the above typo from the transcript? (Aye/Nay/Abstain)

[20:58] Ryan McLinko: i

[20:58] Rick Hanton: aye

[20:58] Justin Graves: aye

[20:58] Josh Sosa: aye

[20:58] Joshua Nelson: aye

[20:59] Basant Sagar: aye

[20:59] Joshua Nelson: motion carries, 6-0-0

[20:59] Ryan McLinko: although I'm not sure typo is the write terminology

[20:59] Joshua Nelson: Rick, please edit the typo, and cut the 6 comments after it

[20:59] Rick Hanton: Yup.

[20:59] Joshua Nelson: Any further items tonight?

[21:01] Joshua Nelson: in which case, meeting adjourned
