SEDS-USA Executive Board Meeting, June 15, 2009

Meeting Minutes

• Impeachment of Secretary Zeke Silva
  • No SEDS-USA board members have heard from Zeke Silva recently and he was given 2 weeks to respond to multiple inquiries.
  • Vote of no-confidence passes 9-0-0.
  • Board votes against a further investigation into Silva's absence by 0-7-2.
  • Zeke will be contacted a few more times before the matter is brought to a CoC vote on the 24th of June.
• Dan Pastuf presents plans for SEDS NE Regional Coordinator Position
  • The draft proposal can be read here.
  • Dan goes on to detail how the position will be used as an arm of the board to encourage inter-chapter communications.
  • The current proposal would only be geared to be a trial, affecting UB, MIT, BU, GWU, Princeton, and Olin Universities to be evaluated in 2011.
  • The first coordinator would be voted for at the SpaceVision 2009 conference in November, 2009.
  • SEDS-USA board would decide how this position would be tied to the decisions and work of the national board. Possibly would work amongst other regional coordinators under supervision of 1 or more board members.
  • Q/A on Region I coordinator will be hosted at next SEDS-USA meeting as well.
• SEDS at NewSpace '09
  • Members from UCF, MIT, UofA, UCSD, and Caltech reported to be attending NewSpace. Approx 13 people total.
  • SEDS-USA will have a low-key table at the conference to promote SEDS.
• Keri Bean offers plans for SEDS outreach program for incoming college students
  • Willing members would have a profile on a specific part of the SEDS website with contact info so they could be contacted by new students to help them acclimate to college or decide on a major etc.
  • Would be sorted by major and school.
  • Each profile would include a small picture and short bio.
  • Vote to have Keri pursue this idea further in July passes 9-0-0.
• Matt Cannella updates that he is working to 'reboot' the SEDS chapter at University of Alabama: Huntsville
  • Matt is putting up posters seeking interest at the University.
  • Matt hopes to get newly appointed professor and former NASA administrator Mike Griffin to be the adviser.

• Rick Hanton (Expansion)
  • Replied to messages from Longhorn Rocketry Club at University of Texas.
  • Contacted Dr. Agol at University of Washington.
  • Contacted SpaceVidcast about getting Grant on the show sometime.
  • University of MN rocketry club will look at possible SEDS chapter status again in the Fall.
• Grant Atkinson (Chapter Affairs)
  • Got more information from chapters for the updated chapter database. (will update database soon)
  • Contacted Cariann at SpaceVidcast about possible future presence there.
