[17:30] Jedi8798: Bout time to get started

[17:31] Jedi8798: First of all, in case you haven't heard, we're now 501c3!

[17:31] rick12500: yay

[17:31] aggieastronaut: whoop!

[17:31] bsntmath: yay

[17:31] Jedi8798:

[17:32] Jedi8798: According to Ryan G, the lawyers are now filling out the paperwork to get us tax exemption with the state of texas

[17:32] Jedi8798: so we can get the endowment set up and rolling

[17:32] Jedi8798: We'll also be doing a teleconference with Ryan G eventually to find out all the details, and emailing a list of procedures to chapters

[17:33] Jedi8798: on how to get an individual donation written off, etc..

[17:33] Jedi8798: Any questions from anyone right now on the 501c3 stuff?

[17:34] rick12500: How soon do we expect to get tax exemption?

[17:34] Jedi8798: the state level tax exemption in Texas I do not know, I'll ask

[17:34] rick12500: but individual donations to groups don't have to do with that?

[17:35] Jedi8798: I do not believe so

[17:35] Jedi8798: I think on the individual donations we are going to just need to have everyone keep very good records, and have some sort of submission process at the end of every tax year

[17:35] rick12500: ok, thanks

[17:37] Jedi8798: Next up, Publications

[17:37] Jedi8798: Matt has emailed me (and I've emailed to you all) the preliminary copy of the letterhead

[17:38] Jedi8798: If everyone could take a few minutes to check their emails, look at the document and give feedback

[17:38] rmmlg08: so what's the thing in the top-left

[17:39] rmmlg08: also, the text looks too 80s

[17:39] rick12500: Who made the origional logo? It looks bad when "SEDS" looks one way and "USA" looks different.

[17:39] bsntmath: we should have a byline with address

[17:40] bsntmath: and should mention that we have 510c3

[17:40] rick12500: do we have an address?

[17:40] Jedi8798: I think overall it is a bit flashy, and doesnt really look like letterhead so much as the top of a college club flyer

[17:40] Jedi8798: we have several different mailing addresses we can use

[17:40] Jedi8798: like the MIT office, our lawyers, etc..

[17:40] rmmlg08: yeah, we wnat to have a physical address and some email addresses

[17:40] rmmlg08: and maybe even a phone number

[17:40] rmmlg08: and besides, that a simple logo

[17:42] Jedi8798: hmm

[17:42] Jedi8798: un momento, trying to actually get matt in here

[17:42] Jedi8798: he's having connection to chat troubles

[17:43] Jedi8798: could someone else try inviting him?

[17:43] rick12500: I'm trying.

[17:43] rmmlg08: I've been having a lack of luck too

[17:44] bsntmath: i used up all my tries during last meeting

[17:45] Wemewaw27: has joined the chat

[17:45] Jedi8798: Well there's one of our trouble children...

[17:45] Jedi8798: Now if we can only get Matt to start behaving and join the chat...

[17:47] Jedi8798: Ok well I guess Matt will just need to read teh transcript

[17:47] Jedi8798: anymore feedback on the document?

[17:48] aggieastronaut: I agree with everyone else's comments

[17:48] aggieastronaut: it doesn't scream professional to me

[17:48] aggieastronaut: (sorry I'm not terribly active, I'm going to a big conference next week and I'm working on my poster) [17:48] Jedi8798: *nods* k, I will pass on these feedback comments to Matt.

[17:49] Jedi8798: Next up: Space Access

[17:49] Jedi8798: Ryan, any other schools besides UofA currently planning on attending?

[17:49] rmmlg08: not that I've heard of

[17:50] Jedi8798: k. Right now we have about 6 UofA SEDS members going

[17:50] Jedi8798: 3 for the whole time, 3 partially attending

[17:50] rmmlg08: ok cool...and do you have table stuff set up

[17:50] aggieastronaut: when is it again?

[17:50] Jedi8798: April 2-4 I think

[17:50] Jedi8798: http://www.space-access.org/

[17:51] Jedi8798: I'm printing off stuff for the table,

[17:52] Jedi8798: and putting in a request to steal a conference display

[17:52] Jedi8798: one thing that could be useful is something to have rolling on the table while we're not actively manning it

[17:52] Jedi8798: like a laptop with a presentation on auto play or a video/flash animation

[17:53] Wemewaw27: if u can think of a way to keep mine from getting stolen it is now fully working

[17:53] Wemewaw27: or if u want to pay for an insurance policy

[17:53] Wemewaw27:

[17:53] Jedi8798: I have a laptop lock for my laptop, I'll probably just lock mine to the table.

[17:55] Jedi8798: Anyone happen to have the time to make a what is SEDS video or animation or something for the conference?

[17:55] Jedi8798: if not I guess I can try to get one together this week

[17:55] rmmlg08: sounds like a good job for publications

[17:55] rick12500: No promises.

[17:56] aggieastronaut: there's the rough draft of the endowment video that could help

[17:56] Jedi8798: could you send me a copy Keri?

[17:56] aggieastronaut: Doug took it off his ftp

[17:56] aggieastronaut: and it's huge

[17:56] Jedi8798: k

[17:57] aggieastronaut: I could put it on the SEDS server if I got a login

[17:57] rick12500: let me know too

[17:57] Jedi8798: have you made a login, and asked Josh Sosa for space to place files?

[17:57] rick12500: I was talking with Doug and would like to see what he has.

[17:57] aggieastronaut: no

[17:57] aggieastronaut: but I will

[17:57] Jedi8798: Josh is very good about getting those things done

[17:58] Jedi8798: so just do your part and I'm sure he'll help set you up

[17:58] Jedi8798: K,

[17:58] Jedi8798: Insertion of another quick item...

[17:58] Jedi8798: Ryan, My-Linh wanted to know when we'll start pushing ISDC to the chapters?

[17:58] Jedi8798: given they need to start buying tickets pretty soon

[17:58] Jedi8798: for the best airfare

[17:59] rmmlg08: I gave the initial peek a while ago, but everyone probably ignored that

[17:59] rmmlg08: so I was going to send another ping soon

[17:59] rmmlg08: when do people generally have spring breaks

[17:59] Jedi8798: now for UofA and several others

[17:59] rmmlg08: hitting people during the middle-end would be optimal

[17:59] Jedi8798: UCF was last week

[18:00] rmmlg08: ok, maybe to the end of this week then

[18:00] Jedi8798: k

[18:00] Jedi8798: Next up: CoC rep

[18:00] Jedi8798: we need someone to rep the Exec Board at the next CoC meeting

[18:01] rmmlg08: I haven't done it in a while, so should be able to

[18:01] Jedi8798: A, when is the next meeting? B, Anyone volunteering?

[18:01] Jedi8798: Thanks Ryan

[18:02] Jedi8798: Keri B would like to discuss the IYA

[18:02] Jedi8798: Keri?

[18:03] aggieastronaut: so I haven't heard from anyone

[18:03] aggieastronaut: what can we do to help get the word out there that "Hey, IYA has student programs!"

[18:06] aggieastronaut: *echo*

[18:06] Jedi8798: *cricket*

[18:07] rmmlg08: *car horn*

[18:07] rick12500: Have you sent a message to the mailing lists about it?

[18:07] aggieastronaut: i mentioned it at an old CoC meeting

[18:08] bsntmath: *wakes up*

[18:08] rick12500: Did the SEDS newsletter go out (memory bad) yet, because you could put it there.

[18:08] aggieastronaut: but it'd be worth sending to the lists

[18:08] rick12500: Sometimes things from CoC don't always translate through to all of leadership.

[18:08] Jedi8798: yes this quarters newsletter went out

[18:08] rick12500: The SEDS twitter account?

[18:08] rick12500: SEDS Facebook Group?

[18:09] Jedi8798: we can tweet it, just let me know what you want it to say

[18:09] aggieastronaut: k

[18:09] rick12500: A message to the Facebook group would really get the word out (but bother some).

[18:10] Jedi8798: One problem with IYA is there are so many programs competing for attention..

[18:10] aggieastronaut: yeah

[18:11] Jedi8798: I'm trying to think of what is the best way

[18:12] Jedi8798: Ok, well if anyone comes up with any good ideas, let Keri know. Keri if you need to send anything out to the Twitter or Facebooks let us know

[18:13] aggieastronaut: ok, sounds good

[18:13] Jedi8798: Any further items for the day?

[18:13] Wemewaw27: yes!

[18:13] Jedi8798: Keri?

[18:13] Wemewaw27: real quick, I just thought of it, that letter of suport is no longer needed

[18:14] Wemewaw27: the girl dropped the program

[18:14] Wemewaw27: just so no one recommends it or something

[18:14] aggieastronaut: ok

[18:14] Jedi8798: k. Any progress in getting SEDS High School chapters?

[18:14] Wemewaw27: one had their first meeting at the end of last week!

[18:14] Wemewaw27: they are setting everything up and then emailing Rick

[18:15] Jedi8798: k

[18:15] Jedi8798: Many more potentials in the work?

[18:15] Wemewaw27: 1 that I'm trying to get a hold of

[18:15] Wemewaw27: trying to get this stupid lab thing up

[18:16] Wemewaw27: I got the impression that it was y the one is even holding a meeting

[18:16] Wemewaw27: they were really excited about it

[18:16] Wemewaw27: so I'm hoping that it will help me reach more schools

[18:16] Wemewaw27: and encourage them that we can do something for them

[18:16] Wemewaw27: 1 high school chapter is better than the 0 we have currently though

[18:17] Jedi8798: We should set a goal on the number of high school and college chapters we want to aim for

[18:17] Jedi8798: by Space Vision

[18:17] Wemewaw27: 10

[18:17] rick12500: which?

[18:17] Wemewaw27: it's lofty, but it's been my goal all along

[18:17] Wemewaw27: high school

[18:17] rick12500: ok

[18:17] Jedi8798: k I'll hold you to it

[18:17] Jedi8798: And College chapters... I'd ideally like 40...

[18:17] rick12500: I'd like to get that many college chapters, but not much luck so far.

[18:18] Wemewaw27: lol, I'll only promise that I'll try

[18:18] rick12500: Hard going, but I'll work on it this week and a lot over the summer.

[18:18] Jedi8798: k. Lets set a goal of 35 total SEDS USA chapters by Space Vision? Does that sound reasonable?

[18:18] rick12500: Sounds like a plan.

[18:19] Wemewaw27: cool by me

[18:19] Jedi8798: by 35 I meant college chapters

[18:19] Jedi8798: and then 10 high school chapters would make us 45 chapters total

[18:19] rick12500: ooh ok

[18:19] Wemewaw27: oo, ok lol

[18:19] Wemewaw27: thanks for making that clearer lol

[18:19] Jedi8798: sorry, my fault

[18:20] Jedi8798: in the past chapter expansion on both college and high school has been a problem

[18:20] Jedi8798: we really need to start expanding there

[18:20] Jedi8798: while we're making progress on alot of fronts

[18:20] Jedi8798: expanding our member base isn't one of our strong suites right now

[18:20] Jedi8798: we need to grow this organization at the base

[18:20] rick12500: It's a tough thing.

[18:20] Jedi8798: the more chapters we create, the more powerful our organization is as a whole

[18:20] Wemewaw27: but we can do it!

[18:20] Jedi8798: Nothing easy was ever worth doing

[18:20] rick12500: It's hard to start chapters without hunting for the interested people.

[18:21] Jedi8798: Well we need to figure out the most effective way

[18:21] rick12500: As I explained today to a friend, like finding a needle in a haystack x 1000s.

[18:21] Jedi8798: try lots of different methods of expansion

[18:21] Wemewaw27: how did the facebook advertising go?

[18:21] Jedi8798: until we hit on our best method

[18:21] rick12500: meh

[18:21] Wemewaw27: (I apologize if I missed that meeting)

[18:21] Jedi8798: Honostly thats the section of SEDS that worries me the most right now. We're stagnating. We need to form new chapters

[18:21] rick12500: yeah, facebook was an ok idea, but apparrently wasn't hitting our target audience well enough.

[18:21] Jedi8798: that and my spelling.

[18:22] Jedi8798: Ok, anything else for this meeting?

[18:22] rmmlg08: well, one front that I'm trying to open up for that purpose is this regional conference thing

[18:22] rmmlg08: the jury is out on that still though

[18:22] Jedi8798: Well lets see how well it works

[18:23] Jedi8798: Do you have any 'what is seds' or expansion related things planned at the conference?

[18:23] rick12500: Ryan, can you have your conference guy send me more info on that conference that I can use?

[18:24] rmmlg08: sure, I'll have my publicity guy send you some info

[18:25] rick12500: thx

[18:25] bsntmath: and those is NorthEast are highly encouraged to go to our site and register

[18:25] rmmlg08: it's free

[18:25] bsntmath: *in

[18:26] Jedi8798: Anything else?

[18:27] aggieastronaut: has left the chat

[18:27] Jedi8798: K, in which case, meeting adjourned.
