Our chapter (Texas A&M) participated in a large event hosted by the Student Engineer Council here called 'E-Day at the Mall' during Engineering week spring semester.

We had two tables, side by side. The first had a display of various wind tunnel models and engines that were borrowed from our Senior Design lab. This attracted initial interest and particularly interested the parents there while their kids were busy at our other table. The second table was devoted to having the kids create small 'Straw rockets' out of construction paper, straws and tape. We set up a small range, marked out with masking tape, to let them test and compete to see how far they could go, and kept a record. This was very popular with the kids there.

One note from this is that activities are much more popular than displays with kids, however it's good to have an extra person and some information for adults who are also at the events with their kids.
