Dear EC Team, Following is the agenda for our next Telecom meeting which has been sheduled on Wednesday Jan 11th, 2006 9pm ET/6pm PT 218- 936-6666 passcode YURI 9874.

Agenda

  • Update on YN from Loretta (New Regional Event Coordinators, report on NASM mtg, help crafting USA proposal, Website update, introducing our bloggers, update on our goodstorm store, Davids work getting us in Podcasts)
  • Update from Jen (VoIP, Sponsorship pack), Tim (+ his new idea on celebrity involvement- pasted below, Pioneer Day), Karen (progress on postcard- base on discoball earth?), Jeremy (working with your new team) Plus what you are taking on for this week
  • Update on getting NSS parties going
  • New business
  • Next meeting set
  • 1: Get them to do a short YN06 greeting
  • 2: Film a longer clip about being the crew of STS-1 and starting a new chapter in space

is it too much to have them do "a toast to Yuri and all of us who have opened the frontiers of space"?

  • could this be a theme--? Think of the "Got Milk?" campaign: Have pictures of celebrities or space personalitites with a YN-branded shot glass or cup and their preferred YN drink listed at the bottom (can be non-alcoholic)?

Telecom meeting was a success but sorry for few who couldn’t connect with busy signal.

Here is the latest and greatest for YN:

  • New Regional Coordinators- Barbara Thompson will manage the team
    • Amrut will be the Regional Coordinator for Asia
    • Rex will be the Regional Coordinator for Africa
    • Elchin will be the Regional Coordinator for Eastern Europe
  • We are still seeking someone who can coordinate the North America, Australia, Western Europe and Latin America. Do you know someone you can ask to take this on? The role involves:
    • represent their region on the YN Executive Committee
    • serve as an advisor and central point of contact for all YN issues pertaining specifically to their region
    • play a role in recruiting party planners in their region
    • advise party planners in their region
  • Meeting at Smithsonian got postponed, but in preparation I noted that April 15th (the day of the existing outreach astronomy Family Day at Air and Space) is the day before Easter, I also noted that we could think about asking them to stay open late for star gazing, to do star gazing with a partner scope in Australia during the day. We could invite Brad and Angelina Jolie to be our guests of honor, we could have a focus on kids and work to get 3,000 school kids there that day. (we would need something for them to do. Something hands on. maybe design something?) Have NASA art collection on display? Partner with Federation of Galaxy Explorers and the FIRST robotics league to do this. Maybe they bring their robots? What else could be do?
  • Will have a telecon with USA public Affairs head Jeff Carr on Tuesday to discuss their involvement and how to make YN off the charts. Will ask them to sponsor Big Head Todd, what else would they like to see out of it, help thinking of things that really catch the media and the publics attention. Big Head Todd is doing their show in Florida soon- what should we do for that? If we did get them to play- where should they play?
  • Website is to launch 1/15. Things are going well. We have our first bloggers lined up, Camille Alleyne of NASA HQ, Ned Adle-Smith of Virgin Galactic, and I have emailed a number of other people to get them involved too. It should be fun!
  • Blogging Brain Starters to send to our bloggers as suggestions (do you have any more ideas?):
    • What I love about Yuri's Night....Musings on art and science...What is our generations responsibility?...What does my day look like...Today is tell a story day: here is the story of the time that I....Here is how international my life is now...My favorite thing about being a part of the space community is....When I go into space I plan to...What I am most excited about these days is....
  • GoodStorm Store is on its way to being created!- For now we have a www.CafePress.com/hqyurisnight site but will soon have a site up at www.goodstorm.com! Thanks to Ryan Kobrick and Andrew Hoppin for getting that set up.
  • Podcasts - David Bullock (North Dakota Party) has been approaching PodCast shows about covering YN on their podcasts! Way to go David.
  • Jeremy asked that we Get a quote from David Buck on what he though of his zero-g ride to promote this years Zero-G raffle. (So we sent him a press release from last year about it). He also wants to get SEDS students to take on contacting NSTA and get high school students involved in YN events. When he gets text together we will send it to the SEDS team to post to their list. Jeremy is also putting together a press alert to let media know about raffle and the t-minus three month mark Jan 12th!
  • Tim Emailed Sam Durrance (ex-astronaut) to invite him to blog for us. He also wrote up text to invite NSS chapters to host events for an email to be sent out tomorrow for T-minus 3 month mark!
  • We brainstormed a bit more on Tim's "Got Milk" Celebrities toasting to space explorers campaign idea! (Dora the explorer toasting with lemonade, Blues clues guy toasting with milk, Branson toasting with a martini, Shuttle Commander toasting with Tang, Sports hero toasting with Gatorade.)
  • Tim recommend we add RSS feeds from news sites like space.com to our site.
  • Our next telecom will be on Wednesday Jan 18th, 2006. 9pm ET/ 6pm PT - Please watch for my (Anbarasan,ES) reminder email to see if we need to CHANGE THE CALL IN NUMBER for next weeks tag-up.
