Big question: Big party bash or try to integrate it with the NASA event at Air and Space and make it a little more upscale?

Currently we plan to help augment the NASA bash and host the Russian Themed after party at the Russian Cultural Centre.

Sponsorship

United Space Alliance is supportive of YNDC 2006, and are most interested in the events on April 12, because it’s a good media connection. This doesn’t match up with the Saturday Family Day at Air and Space but it does match up with the NASA evening program at National Air and Space Museum (NASM) -Mall location- for the 25th anniversary of the shuttle (they are just sending over the letter from NASA to make it official this week). Loretta made contact with the planner for this event (Joanna) and Joanna was wondering how the events can work together. The NASA event runs from 6:30- 9:00pm, so the after-party can be Yuri’s Night. Additionally, we can coordinate webcasts, etc (i.e point our parties to NASA.gov’s coverage of the 8-9pm EST STS-1 anniversary program where they will present John Young and Bob Crippen with awards). She also offered to allow us to give input to the guest list (Angelina Jolie anyone? Moby? Big Head Todd?). We can push for some younger people, and possibly some Russians.

Also, we can assemble a gift bag with NASA goodies along with some items sponsored by some other groups and get USA or NASA to put YN materials in the gift bags.

Loretta talked to Bob Jacobs (TV/PAO for NASA). He’s already working on getting the live greeting from the space station with a cosmonaut & an astronaut for the webcasted NASA program, they want a suggested line for the greeting from us of how they can work in Yuri’s Night.

Kevin’s going to try to get in touch with the appropriate folks at Stoli. karen@yurisnight.net might have contacts in that direction. He will also check in with VA and DC Space Grants (Daphne gave him a contact) to get them involved.

Venues

Daphne checked with the Black Cat, but they don’t rent out. 9:30 Club is $7000, but they provide security, music, cash bar, and it sounds like they’re pretty reasonable with the plans.

Who’s our target audience? Probably people who were at the NASM might be tired afterward. If we want them to attend YN, we might want to look into a venue nearby. George wonders about Russia House? Perhaps limousines for the VIPs so it’s easy for them to get to the Russian Cultural Center. Maybe NASA would give us the other bay of NASM? 21st Amendment Bar two blocks away?

Russian Cultural Center is more Yuri-themed, and they’re nice hosts. We will go with that unless something else drops in our laps.

Food/drinks

Catering this time? Hire someone to do the bar?

Promos

Kevin asks if we got a good performer maybe DC101 would be willing to give out free tickets and plug the event? Do they have any employees that are space buffs?

How to get in touch with the local students better?

Another guy is interested in making YN aluminum coins as well as commemorative shuttle flight coins. Another thing is to get some space-flown metal to melt in for the coins. The coins are $160 for the cast then $55 for 1,000. Stickers too, and tattoos again. Pins. Plastic or glass shot glasses with the logo on them? Postcards again.

Get Aeroflot to sponsor some seats to fly cosmonauts in. George will contact. Loretta will contact Bill Shephard and woman in charge of astronaut appearances to make sure we have a critical mass of astros there.

Daphne will contact the man in Colorado who has a lot of space artifacts that he can bring to be our honored guest.

Next meeting

WEDNESDAY January 25, 2006, 7:30- end by 9 sharp- as there is a telecon scheduled directly after. (Due to IMAX premiere on Thursday night and Loretta going to Miami for Flight Attendant class…) Do come.
