From SEDSWiki
[mark] 7:05 pm: Okay shall we get started?
[mark] 7:05 pm: I was hoping Megha would be here.
[senning] 7:05 pm: I will make my font bright pink if I must.
[rechenma] 7:05 pm: let's shall
[rechenma] 7:06 pm: we can hold her part off, i guess
[mark] 7:06 pm: (And a bunch of other people, of course)
[palashbasu] 7:06 pm: whats the agenda, people??
[kaptain80] 7:06 pm: check your email -- it was posted to sedsexec
[JoshinTucson] 7:06 pm: I believe Mark sent out a prelim
[mark] 7:06 pm:
[palashbasu] 7:06 pm: sorry, kirk
[JoshinTucson] 7:06 pm: or Kirk, or one of those people
[mark] 7:06 pm: Er, oops
[rechenma] 7:07 pm: as a quick reminder - if i don't respond it's because
i'm off packing
[rechenma] 7:07 pm: please be patient
[palashbasu] 7:07 pm: my internet hasnt been working for 2 days
[palashbasu] 7:07 pm: anyways
[mark] 7:07 pm: Okay. Before we start the agenda, I want to show you
guys something that Jess and I came up with.
[mark] 7:07 pm: http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/Ideas
[mark] 7:07 pm: It's a wiki to put random SEDS ideas.
[JoshinTucson] 7:08 pm: *clicks*
[palashbasu] 7:08 pm: i've seen it
[mark] 7:08 pm: Everything posted there now is stuff Jess and I have
come up with. We haven't really announced much of them yet.
[JoshinTucson] 7:08 pm: Will we all have access?
[kaptain80] 7:08 pm: Yes!
[mark] 7:08 pm: Yep. Anyone can post there. Just attach a signature
so we know who posted.
[JoshinTucson] 7:09 pm: k
[mark] 7:09 pm: There's a bunch of random stuff there that hopefully we
can discuss in the coming weeks.
[mark] 7:09 pm: So on to the agenda. The first order of business is
Telecons.
[The Lounge]: kaptain80 has left at 7:09 pm
[mark] 7:10 pm: I sent out an email earlier this week suggesting we start
holding regular telecons. The contents of that email are also in that
ideas wiki page, under Meetings / Telecons
[JoshinTucson] 7:10 pm: Guess Kirk doesnt like Telecons.
[The Lounge]: kaptain80 has entered at 7:10 pm
[mark] 7:10 pm: lol
[mark] 7:10 pm: How does everyone feel about scheduling a SEDS
telecon?
[rechenma] 7:10 pm: Mark, you need to fully explain your idea to me
[rechenma] 7:10 pm: i picture 8 people around my cell phone on
"speaker"
[The Lounge]: sharm4f5 has entered at 7:11 pm
[mark] 7:11 pm: Imagine, rather, 8 people on their cell phones on an
8-way call.
[rechenma] 7:11 pm: good turnout
[mark] 7:11 pm: Hey Megha. We're discussing telecons.
[sharm4f5] 7:11 pm: hey everyone
[mark] 7:12 pm: It functions as such: we all call into a telecon service,
which puts us all in a "room". It's basically an 8-way call like I said.
[JoshinTucson] 7:12 pm: I tend to fine a teleconferance to be alot more
hectic, as well as alot harder to document and post. Chats can easily be
transcripted and quickly posted, for people to quickly catch up on.
[sharm4f5] 7:12 pm: yea
[sharm4f5] 7:12 pm: now did we have one this weekend?
[mark] 7:12 pm: Definitely Josh. We'll have to establish a moderator and
secretary for each telecon to ensure that things stay on track, and
minutes are recorded.
[mark] 7:13 pm: I've participated in a series of SpaceGen telecons this
summer (with Kirk) and both of us can attest to the fact that they work
really really well.
[rechenma] 7:13 pm: we can also relegate it to more "action" meetings
than "agenda" meetings if we have to
[kaptain80] 7:13 pm: occasional phone telecons are ok -- but they start
to leave dents in my cell phone bill
[JoshinTucson] 7:13 pm: Also they tend to take alot longer than chats,
simply in that it that you can have several people typing up reports and
comments at once, which can be read in seconds, while only one person
at a time can go in telecons
[mark] 7:14 pm: See Josh, I disagree there. I think our chats go really
slow, whereas the telecons tend to go fast.
[mark] 7:14 pm: No typing time necessary.
[rechenma] 7:14 pm: they do, however, provide more resources at our
fingertips, granted
[mark] 7:15 pm: Look at the timestamps on our messages, for example.
We only get a few messages out per minute. Compare that to an
continuous phone discussion.
[rechenma] 7:15 pm: perhaps a combination (brainstorming here...)
[senning] 7:15 pm: I think people will feel more obligation to go to a
telecon than a chat meeting.
[mark] 7:15 pm: That's what I proposed on the wiki: we can do both
telecons and chat meetings.
[mark] 7:15 pm: Telecons can serve as action oriented, like you said
Alex.
[mark] 7:15 pm: Keeping everyone up to date and keeping projects
moving.
[kaptain80] 7:15 pm: a monthly telecon sounds good to me
[mark] 7:15 pm: We can put major discussions and such on the chat
server.
[mark] 7:16 pm: Monthly telecon sounds good to me too. Everyone else?
[sharm4f5] 7:16 pm: hmmmm
[JoshinTucson] 7:16 pm: I would agree with using them on a trial basis
for some of the smaller group meetings, and if they seem to work out
well, we can start applying them where appropiate.
[senning] 7:16 pm: I like it.
[sharm4f5] 7:16 pm: aite
[mark] 7:16 pm: Alright, let's schedule a trail telecon then?
[JoshinTucson] 7:17 pm: Though the one downside I do see is we all will
wrack up major phone bills.
[mark] 7:17 pm: I suggest the weekend, to take advantage of weekend
minutes on cell phones.
[rechenma] 7:17 pm: how about for the education meeting we never had?
[rechenma] 7:17 pm: pick a topic or something
[senning] 7:17 pm: when was the last time we heard from Jaime?
[rechenma] 7:17 pm: maybe (if we're doing it soon) recruitment strategies
[JoshinTucson] 7:17 pm: good idea Mark, perhaps earlier in the day? so
we dont interupt people's night life?
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has left at 7:18 pm
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has entered at 7:18 pm
[rechenma] 7:18 pm: she emailed me her phone info today
[rechenma] 7:18 pm: Jamie did
[mark] 7:18 pm: Let's discuss our expansion effort for the coming
semester. Sound good Palash?
Welcome! You have entered
[The Lounge] at 7:25 pm
[mark] 7:25 pm: Sorry.
[mark] 7:26 pm: This would be the SEDS national account.
[JoshinTucson] 7:26 pm: And who would have access to the account ?
[mark] 7:26 pm: The Director of Finance and the financial committee
would be signatories, but everyone will be able to make deposits.
[JoshinTucson] 7:27 pm: and Withdrawls?
[JoshinTucson] 7:27 pm: would it be 1, 2, or more people required?
[kaptain80] 7:27 pm: the real question there -- I believe it takes two
for a "corporate" account
[mark] 7:27 pm: Ideally 2 people. We could also set up a debut/atm card.
[mark] 7:28 pm: (I think)
[mark] 7:28 pm: I think you're right Kirk.
[JoshinTucson] 7:28 pm: 2 is fine. Just want to make sure there is at
least some check there on access (pun intended).
[The Lounge]: j_me has entered at 7:29 pm
[mark] 7:29 pm: Yeah, it'll be two at the least.
[mark] 7:29 pm: Hey Jaime
[j_me] 7:29 pm: sorry for my tardiness
[mark] 7:29 pm: In that case, is everyone in agreement that we should
set up an account at Bank of America? John Evans is out of town but
we'll
do it when he gets back.
[mark] 7:30 pm: Don't worry, the meeting is running slow.
[JoshinTucson] 7:30 pm: We are discussing the ideas Mark, that is what
the meeting is for.
[mark] 7:30 pm: Hehe I know, like I said the times I gave were just
for show really. This discussion is good.
[The Lounge]: j_me has left at 7:30 pm
[sharm4f5] 7:31 pm: well this will be a small business account pretty
much, n they can issue multiple atm cards, so that is cool
[mark] 7:31 pm: Test
[mark] 7:32 pm: How about, Alex and I send an email asking for an
official vote about the account at Bank of America?
[JoshinTucson] 7:32 pm: Lets refrain from ATM cards for the moment
[JoshinTucson] 7:32 pm: checks are much easier to document and keep a handle on
[kaptain80] 7:32 pm: yeah, no real need for the cards at the moment
[mark] 7:33 pm: I agree, with the cards.
[JoshinTucson] 7:33 pm: Also should talk to John about establishing a
firm place where all reciepts are kept
[JoshinTucson] 7:33 pm: but that is a finance committee issue
[mark] 7:34 pm: John has a binder right now with everything finance.
[mark] 7:34 pm: Okay, any other concerns about the bank?
[JoshinTucson] 7:34 pm: Quick check, is there a bank of America near
all of the chapters represented here?
[JoshinTucson] 7:35 pm: There are several in Tucson.
[mark] 7:35 pm: It's about 40 miles from Champaign, but there are ATMs
in champaign to make deposits.
[sharm4f5] 7:35 pm: there are several in daytona
[kaptain80] 7:36 pm: that's all of today's representation: ERAU, UA, and UI
[mark] 7:36 pm: All righty.
[mark] 7:36 pm: The next order of business was Individual membership
and virtual chapters. Kirk, do you want to take over for this one?
[kaptain80] 7:37 pm: sure
[kaptain80] 7:37 pm: who is *unfamiliar* with this concept?
[The Lounge]: j_me has entered at 7:37 pm
[kaptain80] 7:37 pm: concept = individual membership (virtual chapters
come next)
[rechenma] 7:37 pm: i am no longer unfamiliar
[mark] 7:38 pm: (Jaime, can you do us a favor and see where the
nearest Bank of America branch is to your school?)
[kaptain80] 7:38 pm: quick overview -- individual members are SEDS
members without a local chapter
[j_me] 7:38 pm: sure...
[kaptain80] 7:38 pm: for instance, a student from Cleveland State
wants to join SEDS, but is unsure about having enough students at CSU
to start
a chapter
[kaptain80] 7:39 pm: the idea is that he pays $10 to SEDS-USA -- he is
an "individual member" that gets mailings, eligibility for
scholarships, but
doesn't get a vote for elections
[kaptain80] 7:39 pm: that's it in a nutshell -- any ?'s
[The Lounge]: j_me has left at 7:39 pm
[JoshinTucson] 7:40 pm: We might be able to do it so that all the
individual members together get one vote
[JoshinTucson] 7:40 pm: Counting as their own chapter
[JoshinTucson] 7:40 pm: Chapter of individual membership
[mark] 7:40 pm: I'd like to suggest that we make individual membership
free until November (at least).
[mark] 7:41 pm: (You can read my full thoughts on individual
membership at http://wiki.seds.org/index.php/Ideas#Membership
[kaptain80] 7:41 pm: back to Josh -- that's an idea, but I have
another suggestion when we get to virtual chapters that will tie into
this
[kaptain80] 7:41 pm: Mark -- why do you suggest this?
[mark] 7:41 pm: At this point, to build membership. But more
importantly, I feel SEDS doesn't have enough to offer to justify a
membership fee.
[kaptain80] 7:42 pm: for one thing, SEDS members get a $10 discount to
the conference
[JoshinTucson] 7:42 pm: agreed
[kaptain80] 7:42 pm: and if that's the case, why chapter fees?
[mark] 7:42 pm: I think it'll turn people away. I think, for now, we
could do a big free-membership push, and then in November decide on a
fee.
[rechenma] 7:43 pm: sorry to back up a bit - there are current
provisions in the bylaws for individual members in voting if you need
a springboard for
ideas (and if my head isn't making that up)
[JoshinTucson] 7:43 pm: That was an agreement with Mark, but more of
because half hte year is over already and a fee such as that would be
better implimented at teh beggining of a new 'term'
[mark] 7:43 pm: Chapters get to vote in elections, etc. It's easier
to get fees from a chapter. Also, it gives us a good method of
distinguishing
chapters in good and not-so-good standing.
[kaptain80] 7:43 pm: isn't this fall the beginning of the new term?
[rechenma] 7:44 pm: personally, i am in favor of fees
[sharm4f5] 7:44 pm: (just an opinion)-free membership to any
organization-ppl tend to take it for granted
[mark] 7:44 pm: I think 'term' as in 'term of office for the board',
which starts in november.
[The Lounge]: j_me has entered at 7:44 pm
[rechenma] 7:44 pm: they add a sense of belonging - the smaller
membership base that we would have would be stronger
[j_me] 7:44 pm: This chat server keeps kicking me off unexpectedly
[rechenma] 7:45 pm: and i think for the types of people kirk is
talking about , a fee is a good idea
[rechenma] 7:45 pm: yeah - it does that, Jamie
[mark] 7:45 pm: Jaime, try using a different web broswer if you have
one. I can't get this to work on anything but Internet Explorer.
[rechenma] 7:45 pm: Your Taro's, Scott Shackleford's....etc
[rechenma] 7:45 pm: and if they start a chapter, no dues for the first year!
[sharm4f5] 7:45 pm: like the feeling that may be its just soemthing not worth it
[The Lounge]: kaptain80 has left at 7:46 pm
[j_me] 7:46 pm: But there's a BOA .5 miles from MIT
[rechenma] 7:46 pm: bye, kirk
[mark] 7:46 pm: Can we set up two levels of indvidiaul membership?
Free members and paid members?
[The Lounge]: kaptain80 has entered at 7:46 pm
[JoshinTucson] 7:46 pm: Probally not a good idea
[mark] 7:46 pm: (indvidiaul as a word is patent pending)
[JoshinTucson] 7:46 pm: then people will be 'joining' to get their
name on a list with no intention of doing anything
[j_me] 7:46 pm: ha.
[rechenma] 7:46 pm: there's an idea, Mark
[j_me] 7:47 pm: true
[rechenma] 7:47 pm: i like that
[kaptain80] 7:47 pm: what happened in the last minute (pm me)
[mark] 7:47 pm: Why not, Josh? (Kirk, I suggested two levels of
individual membership, free and paid)
[kaptain80] 7:47 pm: there is free membership -- seds-announce@seds.org
[sharm4f5] 7:47 pm: and what will paid members get that free members will not?
[mark] 7:47 pm: That's true Josh, but we get their name on a list and
can start bombarding them with info. Basically it's a way to set up a
free
contacts list.
[mark] 7:47 pm: I agree Kirk, I think we should make it more explicit as such.
[rechenma] 7:47 pm: votes, free dues if you start a chapter, conference discount
[mark] 7:48 pm: The idea I had for free membership was basically a way
for us to get student contacts. Rather than going to them, they come
to
us and sign up on our website. Then BAM, we have contacts.
[kaptain80] 7:48 pm: plus, if Philip from CSU pays $10 to be an indie
member, he's eligible for the $15k NSS ISU scholarship
[j_me] 7:48 pm: What are dues now?
[JoshinTucson] 7:48 pm: Did we ever get those magazine subscriptions
for all SEDS chapters set up?
[kaptain80] 7:48 pm: there are no set dues for indie membership
[rechenma] 7:48 pm: i lke the two level thing
[rechenma] 7:49 pm: are we going on that?
[kaptain80] 7:49 pm: sure, then what I'm talking about is the "paid
level" and the "free level" already is up
[JoshinTucson] 7:49 pm: Perhaps we should vote on a temporary measure
and then have a formal descision at the November meeting of all
chapters?
[kaptain80] 7:50 pm: soudns good -- that way I can mention the
individual membership in this mailing that's going out tonight
[mark] 7:50 pm: Okay. So as it stands, the free level is basically
signing up for seds-announce, and the paid level is Kirk's individual
membership
program.
[sharm4f5] 7:51 pm: aite
[j_me] 7:51 pm: should we call for a vote?
[JoshinTucson] 7:51 pm: Alex?
[rechenma] 7:52 pm: sorry
[JoshinTucson] 7:52 pm: np man we understand your busy.
[rechenma] 7:52 pm: thanks
[rechenma] 7:53 pm: We are voting for Kirk's amendment in full form?
[rechenma] 7:53 pm: as available on the link provided?
[mark] 7:53 pm: As I understand, yes.
[JoshinTucson] 7:53 pm: Until the November meeting where a formal
descision can be made.
[kaptain80] 7:53 pm: yes
[rechenma] 7:53 pm: ok
[kaptain80] 7:54 pm: (yes to Josh)
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: in favor then?
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: I
[mark] 7:54 pm: Aye
[j_me] 7:54 pm: aye
[JoshinTucson] 7:54 pm: Aye mateyyyy.
[sharm4f5] 7:54 pm: in
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: palash?
[palashbasu] 7:54 pm: aye
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: ok then
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: opposed?
[rechenma] 7:54 pm: 6-0 passed
[mark] 7:55 pm: Cool.
[mark] 7:55 pm: All right, shall we move on in the agenda then?
[kaptain80] 7:55 pm: that was just ind membership, right?
[kaptain80] 7:55 pm: did you want to hear about the virtual chatpers?
[kaptain80] 7:55 pm: or did you just vote on that?
[mark] 7:55 pm: I thought it was the whole package.
[senning] 7:55 pm: uhm, I have a question. I wasn't supposed to vote,
since I'm not on the board, right?
[rechenma] 7:55 pm: whole package
[mark] 7:55 pm: Alex?
[rechenma] 7:55 pm: technically no...but go ahead Jess
[kaptain80] 7:55 pm: nope, me and you are just observers, Jess
[mark] 7:56 pm: Yes, Jess. Don't worry we still love you.
[senning] 7:56 pm: =) okay just checking.
[mark] 7:57 pm: Okay. Just to make it absolutely clear, no one
objects to the Individual membership and Virtual chapters program?
[mark] 7:57 pm: Okay, let's move on.
[mark] 7:57 pm: Next item on the agenda: the new website. Alex, want
to take this one?
[kaptain80] 7:58 pm: I love you guys now but will hate you in an hour
when I stuff that info into 250 envelopes
[rechenma] 7:58 pm: can you give me afew mins, mark?
[JoshinTucson] 7:58 pm: lol
[rechenma] 7:58 pm: come back to me?
[JoshinTucson] 7:58 pm: poor Kirk
[mark] 7:59 pm: Sure thing.
[rechenma] 7:59 pm: kool
[senning] 7:59 pm: Kirk I'll help out if you want
[mark] 7:59 pm: lol Kirk
[mark] 7:59 pm: I'd help but I'm in Chicago.
[mark] 8:00 pm: Okay. Well the last thing on the agenda was just some
broad discussion about Josh's resignation and such.
[mark] 8:00 pm: According the bylaws, the Vice-Chair replaces the
Chair in the event that the Chair steps down, so Alex is now
officially the Chair.
[JoshinTucson] 8:01 pm: Congrats Alex.
[mark] 8:01 pm: http://seds.org/seds/constitution/bylaws.html#SECTION_14
[mark] 8:01 pm: This leaves a vacancy in terms of the vice chair position.
[sharm4f5] 8:01 pm: OK Congratulations to Alex from all
[rechenma] 8:02 pm: i didn't do anything
[palashbasu] 8:02 pm: congrats alex
[mark] 8:02 pm: Also, Kirk had requested we institute Elliot Kulakow
as a Director of High School affairs.
[mark] 8:02 pm: Anyone interested in making an official vote on that
now and then including him in upcoming meetings?
[rechenma] 8:03 pm: I don't see a need to vote
[mark] 8:03 pm: It's your call, I just wanted to bring it up. (
[rechenma] 8:03 pm: it's either a) appointed or b) supposed to be
voted on by the CoC
[rechenma] 8:03 pm: not sure what the bylaws say
[mark] 8:04 pm: You're right, I'm just pulling up that info now.
[rechenma] 8:04 pm: so unless there's opposition?
[mark] 8:04 pm: My mistake.
[rechenma] 8:04 pm: no opposition here
[mark] 8:04 pm: Is Elliot already on the sedsexec list, Kirk?
[JoshinTucson] 8:04 pm: none here
[kaptain80] 8:05 pm: no
[kaptain80] 8:05 pm: I'll send him the link
[kaptain80] 8:05 pm: for all of your info -- it's terramars@gmail.com
[j_me] 8:05 pm: who is Elliot?
[rechenma] 8:05 pm: an enthused high school senior
[kaptain80] 8:06 pm: Elliot is a student from Harrisonburg HS in VA
that we met at ISDC
[j_me] 8:06 pm: cool
[kaptain80] 8:06 pm: he does http://www.xprizenews.org/
[rechenma] 8:06 pm: does?
[rechenma] 8:06 pm: like...writes it?
[kaptain80] 8:06 pm: in high school, I was just a pain in the ass, but
he seems to have his stuff together
[mark] 8:06 pm: Okay cool. We're at our one hour point now but if
everyone doesn't mind, do you want to stick around for the website
discussion
tonight?
[rechenma] 8:06 pm: updates it?
[kaptain80] 8:06 pm: yeah
[kaptain80] 8:07 pm: he created it
[rechenma] 8:07 pm: neato
[rechenma] 8:07 pm: i will stick around for the web site discussion mark
[kaptain80] 8:07 pm: check the about page -- http://www.xprizenews.org/about.php
[mark] 8:07 pm: Are you ready to run it?
[j_me] 8:07 pm: me too
[mark] 8:08 pm: Yeah, Elliot will be a great guy to have on board.
[rechenma] 8:08 pm: yeah i'm good
[mark] 8:08 pm: Okay, all yours!
[rechenma] 8:08 pm: ok all
[sharm4f5] 8:08 pm: yes
[rechenma] 8:08 pm: new versions at http://www.sedshome.org/new
[rechenma] 8:09 pm: if you want a login, tell me a preferred username right now
[rechenma] 8:09 pm: you can test out more stuff with it
[senning] 8:09 pm: Jess
[rechenma] 8:10 pm: there are a few small things here or there...if
you see them, please take note and send me an email
[mark] 8:10 pm: mark
[j_me] 8:10 pm: preferred username = j_me
[rechenma] 8:10 pm: if it's a big thing...feel free to tell me now
[sharm4f5] 8:10 pm: alex this is cool
[rechenma] 8:10 pm: mark, you have one goof
[sharm4f5] 8:10 pm: megha
[mark] 8:10 pm:
[mark] 8:10 pm: Yeah, great work Alex, this site rocks.
[JoshinTucson] 8:10 pm: I would like to call a motion to give Alex
permission to impliment his new Web page as soon as he feels ready.
[mark] 8:10 pm: I love the news/events setup.
[mark] 8:10 pm: I second that motion.
[rechenma] 8:11 pm: all in favor then?
[palashbasu] 8:11 pm: yes
[mark] 8:11 pm: yea
[JoshinTucson] 8:11 pm: Aye
[j_me] 8:11 pm: AYE
[rechenma] 8:11 pm: username: Jess
password: sedsexec
[senning] 8:11 pm: hell yeah
[sharm4f5] 8:11 pm: go for it
[JoshinTucson] 8:12 pm: Definetly is a massive improvement over the current page
[j_me] 8:12 pm: I agree
[JoshinTucson] 8:12 pm: (And I cannot spell to save my life tonight)
[mark] 8:12 pm: Yes.
[rechenma] 8:13 pm: ok...i guess that passes?
[rechenma] 8:13 pm: i wasn't counting
[rechenma] 8:13 pm: username: j_me
password: sedsexec
[mark] 8:13 pm: 6-0
[JoshinTucson] 8:13 pm: 6-0
[j_me] 8:13 pm: thanks
[rechenma] 8:14 pm: username: megha
password: sedsexec
[mark] 8:14 pm: How soon can we get this on seds.org, Alex?
[rechenma] 8:14 pm: hopefully i did those right
[rechenma] 8:14 pm: unfortunately, it will be at least a few days
[rechenma] 8:14 pm: i'm trying to get a hold of kevin
[JoshinTucson] 8:14 pm: Chris L can probally give you access as Kevin
is no longer involved.
[senning] 8:15 pm: hoooray I really like this site =D
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: i left him a voicemail
[mark] 8:15 pm: I suggest we aim to have this site implemented by
August 17. (Just to have a deadline). Can you do this, Alex?
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: Chris...doesn't know how to access the database
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: it's a matter of if I can figure out what's up
with Kevin by then
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: i can shoot for that, Mark
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: i don't know
[kaptain80] 8:15 pm: can you create a new one?
[rechenma] 8:15 pm: did all those logins work?
[mark] 8:15 pm: Okay.
[senning] 8:16 pm: mine did.
[JoshinTucson] 8:16 pm: Just have it up when you can Alex.
[rechenma] 8:16 pm: oops...i forgot to make jamie and megha national exec
[rechenma] 8:16 pm: one min
[kaptain80] 8:16 pm: if the database isn't up, the most important
thing to have up is events and expansion info
[rechenma] 8:17 pm: yeah....that's true
[rechenma] 8:17 pm: which can be done
[rechenma] 8:17 pm: i'd like to do it all at once
[rechenma] 8:17 pm: but if need be, kirk's right
[rechenma] 8:17 pm: static stuff can go up
[mark] 8:17 pm: Definitely. We can keep some stuff "under construction".
[kaptain80] 8:17 pm: so would I, just wnat to make sure there's a
contingency plan
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has left at 8:17 pm
[JoshinTucson] 8:18 pm: Agreed, the database is a low priority
[rechenma] 8:18 pm: jamie and megha...try logging out and logging in
[JoshinTucson] 8:18 pm: Putting a good face on SEDS is much higher.
[mark] 8:18 pm: So how about, if we haven't got the database figured
out by August 17 (next Wednesday), we implement the site without it.
[rechenma] 8:18 pm: then see if your web features change
[rechenma] 8:18 pm: sounds like a happy solution, mark
[mark] 8:18 pm: And then get the database going as soon as possible.
[mark] 8:18 pm: Excellent.
[rechenma] 8:18 pm: i can always throw some "coming soon" signs up too
[rechenma] 8:19 pm: the reason i want to do it all at once is stupid
[rechenma] 8:19 pm: i sort of need to be "in the mood" or "in the
groove" when working
[mark] 8:19 pm: No way it's nice to implement a full site.
[rechenma] 8:19 pm: so i need to set aside a good few hours
[mark] 8:20 pm: Okay, does anyone have any other business they would
like to bring up now? We have completed the agenda.
[kaptain80] 8:20 pm: one thing to announce -- updated conference
schedule: http://www.space2005.org/files/Conference_Schedule_v20050802.pdf
[j_me] 8:20 pm: will I be talking about ed. outreach next week?
[JoshinTucson] 8:20 pm: Merely a reminder for people to consider
joining in on the National Project with their chapters
[The Lounge]: sharm4f5 has left at 8:21 pm
[The Lounge]: senning has left at 8:21 pm
[rechenma] 8:21 pm: you can do it now if you wish, Jamie
[rechenma] 8:21 pm: i think the plan was for next week, but if you're ready
[The Lounge]: sharm4f5 has entered at 8:21 pm
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has entered at 8:21 pm
[mark] 8:21 pm: Yeah I have some time now if you want, J_me
[sharm4f5] 8:22 pm: sorry bout that, was kicked out
[j_me] 8:22 pm: I wanted to talk first about the workshop at the
national conference in Nov
[kaptain80] 8:23 pm: ok
[j_me] 8:23 pm: I think it was a good suggestion
[j_me] 8:23 pm: to have the workshop for people
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has left at 8:24 pm
[j_me] 8:24 pm: who were interested in reaching out to their communities
[j_me] 8:24 pm: and local schools
[j_me] 8:24 pm: so I've been doing a little work
[The Lounge]: senning has entered at 8:25 pm
[j_me] 8:25 pm: with organizations in Seattle and Boston
[j_me] 8:25 pm: that already exist to help kids
[sharm4f5] 8:26 pm: cool....
[kaptain80] 8:27 pm: cool, good response so far?
[j_me] 8:27 pm: it's been met with a lot of enthusiasm
[senning] 8:27 pm: (sidenote: does anybody have a transcript of the meeting from
7:00 on?
[mark] 8:27 pm: Excellent. Hoping to turn around and present that at the
conference then?
[j_me] 8:28 pm: so I think I'm going to just keep talking to people
[j_me] 8:28 pm: yeah...
[kaptain80] 8:28 pm: a quick note about how I've scheduled edu outreach at the
conf -- you can
look at http://www.space2005.org/files/Conference_Schedule_v20050802.pdf
[j_me] 8:28 pm: take my information and experiences and pass it on
[senning] 8:28 pm: if you could email it to me (jsenning@gmail.com) I'd
appreciate it- I'm going to
do minutes.
[kaptain80] 8:28 pm: there is a two-hour block of just workshops -- edu
outreach, publications,
web, finance, projects, and policy
[kaptain80] 8:29 pm: these are meant to represent the different board positions
in SEDS
[JoshinTucson] 8:29 pm: are they all going to be concurrent? or 1 hour blocks?
[kaptain80] 8:29 pm: so I'd like to have the old directors and new directors
(elected the night before) develop ideas for the coming year with the students that are right there
at the conf
[kaptain80] 8:29 pm: all concurrent -- take a look at Sat
[mark] 8:30 pm: (afk a few minutes)
[JoshinTucson] 8:30 pm: (I have been in here the entire time senning)
[kaptain80] 8:30 pm: the idea is that the new directors can make some headway
with their "committees" before going home, where the communications will subsist on
email/phone
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has entered at 8:30 pm
[kaptain80] 8:31 pm: that's all I had
[rechenma] 8:32 pm: am i still here?
[rechenma] 8:32 pm: just checking
[JoshinTucson] 8:32 pm: yes
[kaptain80] 8:32 pm: there you are
[rechenma] 8:32 pm: <-- hates silence
[mark] 8:32 pm: I love the idea, Kirk
[mark] 8:32 pm: Of the directors getting headway.
[palashbasu] 8:33 pm: whats the idea, i got disconnected
[j_me] 8:33 pm: so, which is the edu outreach session?
[kaptain80] 8:33 pm: 1pm on Saturday, Nov 12 -- is that what you mean?
[mark] 8:33 pm:
[kaptain80] 8:30 pm: the idea is that the new directors can make
some headway with their "committees" before going home, where the communications will subsist
on
email/phone
[j_me] 8:34 pm: ah, I see it now
[palashbasu] 8:35 pm: i see, this is during the conference
[kaptain80] 8:35 pm: cool, I'll work with you over the next few weeks to write
up a few paragraphs
about desired workshop outcomes
[mark] 8:35 pm: So were you going to put everything together and then present it
at the conference? Or did you have any ideas for things we can do between then and
now?
[palashbasu] 8:35 pm: its not new, i knew this already
[j_me] 8:36 pm: what else did you have in mind?
[mark] 8:37 pm: Oh I don't have any ideas, was just curious.
[j_me] 8:37 pm: anyway, I got to head home...it's getting late here
[j_me] 8:38 pm: I'll talk more about this at our next meeting
[mark] 8:38 pm: Okay. Shall we adjourn the meeting then?
[sharm4f5] 8:38 pm: wat time is it there, jamie?
[j_me] 8:38 pm: 9:38
[sharm4f5] 8:38 pm: i am sorry but where are u?
[rechenma] 8:38 pm: weird...it's 3:15 here
[j_me] 8:38 pm: Boston
[rechenma] 8:38 pm: but my clock's broke
[sharm4f5] 8:38 pm: kkkk
[palashbasu] 8:39 pm: 3:15??
[mark] 8:39 pm: Okay. If nothing else, then this meeting is official closed.
Thanks for coming!

[rechenma] 8:41 pm: does anyone else hate the word "wiki"?
[mark] 8:41 pm: Aww I like it.
[sharm4f5] 8:41 pm: quite so
[rechenma] 8:42 pm: then again...Google grew on me
[kaptain80] 8:42 pm: it grows on you
[rechenma] 8:42 pm: we can't just make up words...i don't like this new
"internet" culture
[The Lounge]: palashbasu has left at 8:42 pm
[sharm4f5] 8:42 pm: night everyone

[mark] 8:44 pm: So you can see how it works?
