SEDSAT-2 Payload Design Concepts

"An image showing a working block diagram for the SEDSAT2 payload module."

Earth Imaging Device (Primary Payload)

Our earth imaging device will most probably be a CMOS SoC solution with onboard compression methods and data handling.

PPU (Payload Processing Unit)

We are going to need a data processing unit for our payload to handle the data stream from the CMOS imager, the file handling on the memory unit and to control a possible secondary payload - together with doing the communication with the Sat's CDH unit.

Storage Memory

With a dedicated memory unit for our payload we will be able to store all captured sensor data and resend spesific data when it is needed and prioritated. We should choose a memory type that will not loose data when it looses power, like FLASH.

Internal Power Management

This is something we need to consider - if we need to do any internal voltage regulation/filtering near the payload module - or if we need any DC/DC converters to handle special voltage needs. We are most probably also going to need to do our own power management - having digital switches on the different components so we can run very low-powered.

(Secondary Payload)

A secondary payload will be looked into when we know what amount of resources we have left after building the primary payload module; mass/power/volume etc.

Module Interface

We need to decide on the physical interface; connectors, switches, jumpers - what kind of databus we are going to use (TWI?) - extra control signals - and what voltages we are to be provided.
