Talk:Space Images
From SEDSWiki
hi,
Could we use Adobe Photoshop or the SEDS Gallery kind of interface for the Space Image Archive?

From Chris:
Actually, I would prefer if we used the SEDS gallery interface, as its much more suited towards hosting large quantities and volumes of images. I'm working on getting an interface between Wiki and Gallery working, but haven't gotten it to work yet.
I agree partially with the idea to switch to Gallery. When I decided to host the archive on Wiki instead of Gallery, it was mostly motivated by the freedom to comment and link freely between the pictures and sections. Gallery is much better for storage and organization, but is a little... "stiff." In Wiki, we've set it up so that we can have multiple languages for the same galleries, and we have support from the SGC folks to help us with this. Because of this, I still lean to Wiki, even with its layout flaws.
Chris--what are you you working on for Gallery-Wiki interface? What does it do?

The Gallery-Wiki interface allows you to "grab" or reference items in Gallery and have them appear in the wiki. This way, gallery can be used to physically manage the files, the meta data, etc, en-masse, where you can make use of the "Wiki" to editorialize the information associated with it. I think its the best of both worlds, if I can get the thing working. The interface is written by a german guy, and he hasn't responded to my questions on the configuration.

That would be a perfect combination. I'd love to look into that (post-Nov 13, eh?). I have really high hopes for what SEDSWiki can do for education and information. --Kirk 15:10, 3 Nov 2005 (PST)
Hey Chris -- where did you find the info about the gallery-wiki interface? Is there a link where one of us can track it down to contact the guy? --Kirk 23:19, 7 November 2005 (PST)
I've made a little progress on it since I last posted. I can now get part of it to show up, but somehow its still misconfigured. I have an idea, but haven't had the time to try the workaround yet. Stay tuned. --Chris 13:10, 8 November 2005 (PST)
