Info: The summer school for students will be held for five weeks during May-June of every even-numbered year. It is designed to introduce students to the exciting fields of astronomy and astrophysics (A+A). No previous knowledge of A+A is necessary, though familiarity with the basic principles of mathematics and physics is required. Last date for applications: March 10, 2008.
Info: IUCAA invites applications for the annual Vacation Students' Programme (VSP). Students selected under the VSP will spend seven weeks at IUCAA working on specific research projects under the supervision of IUCAA faculty. The programme will conclude with seminar presentations of the projects by the participants, a written test and interview. Those who perform well will be pre-selected to join IUCAA as research scholars to do a PhD after the completion of their degree.Last date for applications: March 10, 2008.
Info: Aim of this workshop is to familiarize practicising Remote Sensing scientists on procedures for extracting atmospheric, land and ocean geophysical parameters from MODIS data as well as their validation and applications. The scope for similar data applications of current and future Indian sensors will also be discussed.
Info: Astronomical dust is the ugly duckling of the universe. Unglamorous at first glance, this principal solid-state component of the cosmos, reveals its beauty only in the infrared domain. I hope to show how interesting the study of star dust can be by reviewing its generic properties and specifically addressing its formation in novae. Three exciting results from our recent work on dust will be presented.
