APRS Packets

Telemetry is a big part of the functionality of this project. We need to make it a small part of the work load. In order to do this, you need to use as much existing hardware and software as you can get your hands on. The goal of this subset of the project is to provide bi-directional communications between the rockoon and the ground with as many items found in your average Western 1st world nation.

As it turns out there is a large solution set out there for you folks to use. May I introduce you to APRS. Which stands for Automatic Packet Reporting System, or sometimes Automatic Positioning Reporting System.

Speaking of TAPR (Tucson Amateur Packet Radio) they are a group that has a lot to offer us. Who ever is going to be running the comms probably wants to get in touch with them.
