1 - The safest option is to set a snake trap.

It is always advisable to hire a professional snake expert if you cannot catch it yourself.

3. If you identify a snake for a certain, and know that it isn't venomous, then grab the snake while wearing thick gloves. Put it in a pillowcase and move it.

As an alternative to handling the snake, if you are unable to identify it, or it cannot be reached, a snake hook or snake tongs, such as those below, can be used.

REMEMBER - Most snake bites occur when you attempt to catch or kill one, so maybe you should just leave it alone! An experienced pro or a trap is your best bet if you need it gone. If you are interested in either, please see the bottom of this page.

The mere thought that a thin, long body could suddenly submerge beneath your feet would be unnerving if you run your garden for hours in the heat of the day. Snakes like to follow you around the garden, so they watch you pull rocks and weeds out of the soil. You will become nervous when reaching into a thick clump of fresh vegetables if you experience this scenario often enough, and you will eventually avoid your garden completely. For someone who appreciates the fruits of his or her labor, it is a great tragedy to abandon it. Trying to catch the snake might be a good idea.

Make sure you know what kind of snake you are going after before you attempt to catch it. Poisonous snakes usually require a special touch, if not a highly professional one. In the case that the snake is not poisonous, you can begin.

The first step is to re-enter your garden. There are snakes there, so you will need to go into this area to catch it. Using a yardstick, long branch, or fire poker, you'll distract the snake. Hold the snake's focus by keeping the tool near its head. Using your other hand, you're going to pick up the snake's tail. It's best to keep the main body of the snake on the ground. Picking up a snake by just the tail is one of the worst things you can do! Use your stick to quickly lift the snake's head. As you hold the serpents tail, the other hand should be holding the stick which holds up the snake's front end. It will allow you to control the body of the reptile without putting yourself at risk. Transfer the snake to a location that is safe for relocation. For animals without a nearby haven, you can transport them in a pillowcase by vehicle to a safe location. Release the snake by pointing the head in the direction you want it to travel. If you have a pillow case, gently drain the snake out so that it's partially still covered. Back away and leave the pillowcase on the ground. Your linen can be retrieved when the snake has left.

The above method can be too direct, so you can try to shoo it into a large garbage bin. Place a bin on the ground and use a broom to guide the snake inside. Be careful not to damage the snake by hitting or pushing it. A smooth bin will prevent the snake from climbing out and will allow for safe relocation.

Use a shirt and a pillowcase to remove the snake if it is inside the house. Your shirt or light blanket can be placed over the snake and scooped up, then placed into the pillowcase. If you have a garbage bin or large storage container, you can position the pillowcase inside to provide the snake with access to the open space. Place a lid with air holes on top of the container. I have now made sure your snake can be transported safely. You might be wondering, is it safe to handle a snake with just bare hands?

It is safest to remove snakes using a snake trap of professional grade. There are some traps that have been endorsed by wildlife professionals while others are totally worthless. Traps like these allow you to remove snakes from your property without interacting with the snake. Snakes are typically aggressive, so if you're not sure what kind you're dealing with, a hands-free method is your safest bet. What do I do after I catch a snake?

The three basic options you have for catching snakes are listed below. First, reach out to a wildlife expert from my below directory. The person can remove the snake(s) and take other measures necessary to solve the snake problem. As a second option, you can buy a snake trap if you intend to catch the snake yourself. The third option is to modify your land and seal up your house to keep snakes out, if you're not interested in figuring out how to catch a snake in the first place.

BUY A SNAKE TRAP as a second option

Snakes can be trapped indoors with a trap. If you use a glue-based trap outdoors, you may inadvertently catch other small creatures. I have tested several snake trap designs and found that the one shown below is the most durable and effective. Snake traps that are offered on the market are not as good as these.
